Like you, I love Hellboy and the whole Mignolaverse. It's well researched and full of evocative, Mythos-inspired art.

I was happy to have grabbed this bad boy myself! Awesome to see you featuring it. I have no idea how I'll comfortably read it in that massive tome, though!

First I wasn’t expecting you to whip out the monster book. Then I wasn’t expecting expecting you to also whip out the tpb omnibus. Then I wasn’t expecting you to also whip out the library editions. Expectations blown wide open!

I've only read some of the Hellboy series, and it's pretty good. One of the better things I've read lately that you might enjoy too is Twilight Man: Rod Serling. A bio about the creator of the TV series Twilight Zone, and the early days of TV and his life.

If they continue to bring out those enormous, gravitational-anomaly-causing omnibus editions, they're going to spark a comeback of the old tyme ornate lectern in personal libraries so that they can be read without orthopedic incident.

Hellboy never gets old. And I’m glad they keep it so readily available. Although with all the versions you have I feel like I need to stage an intervention or something. That monster sized one sure looks tempting though…

Boy.. you really like Hellboy, fun and interesting vid. The big black library editions look lovely, the omnibus trades would be my gateway drug, the monster hefty edition .. wouldn't even try to carry that around, I know my limitations.

I love Hellboy. A lot of the stories are adapted from old myths and stories.

Great video. Ive always loved Hellboy. The movie got me into the comic. I collected the original slim trades. But picked up the hardcover omnibus of BPRD and the other connected series. I love the way Mignola wove all kinds of different local and regional folklore and mythologies into one big tapestry for Hellboy to exist in. And that everything connects as one big mythology. I think Hellboy in Hell has Mignola's best work. The colors of that series were just amazing. The current prequal stories are okay, but they don't reach the heights of the original saga. Just beautiful stuff. Now ill need to go watch Steve talk about how unreadable omnibus are and how everything is better digitally 😅

I have been putting my silly bronze age caveman stuff on your discord...Its a screenplay illustrated in Blender with narration and voice acting by yours truly...about the late bronze age collapse...true story? Can't prove it isn't!

I need to grab some of those or just the monster sized one😂 I have a few of the original flippers that had Monkeyman and O’brian by Art Adams, an artist I love. Unfortunately around that time my comic purchases went from a stack a week to a few a month and then 0, digital coloring was the main reason, preferred painted or printed or just plain b/w. I’ve now gotten over the PS coloring but, like cinema, comics kinda suck these days. I liked Baltimore very much and The Goon by Eric Powell but not much else.

What I like about the success of Hellboy is that it came out in the time of early Image comics - Youngblood, Spawn - and the quality read is the one who still is around, well received by fans and critics and spawned two movies that put to shame most superhero movie crap of the last 20 years. Well done, Mignola!

Watching this with total ignorance. Never seen or read the comics and even the movies/tv ! I like the idea of being raised by the US Army though. Access to all those training manuals, and free tickets to the Army Navy game 🏈🏈

hey Michael, do you also enjoy non-American comics? European? Japanese? I am from Europe and Hellboy is my favorite American comic!

Hellboy's Great! Does Monster Sized Hellboy contain any of the short stories? I've been thinking about getting it. There's a character in the anime Blood Blockade Battlefront that is quite clearly inspired by Abe Sapien.
