One of my earliest childhood memories… 1972, pulled weeds, in the stone driveway…For my reward mom took me to the local department store.… And I got the “search for the Idol” playset. Still have some of the parts and pieces. I was able to get a helicopter ATV combo set, when I started collecting. I always get a little choked up when I see it. Thanks for all the great videos…..

I have my original, cleaned it up and repaired it with new decals. Looks great and is one of my all time favorite toys from my childhood, a childhood that still hasn't ended!

Thanks for this great video! I owned the original yellow copter and yes, I broke it. I'm pushing 60 and my GI Joe toys are long gone. I miss them. One of the coolest sets I had may have been a Sears exclusive. Included was a jeep, hard plastic "rubber" raft, a campfire and an alligator. Can't remember if there was a tent. Likely was a net for the gator. I think there was also a footlocker or chest. The gator wasn't the rubbery and flexible kind of toy. Rather, it was hard plastic with a hinged head and tail. On the underside was a geared wheel. As you rolled the gator across the floor, the head and tail wagged from left to right. I think it was about 8" long and proved to be a well made toy. Wish I still had it. Good times.

Great video! I still have memories of the Search for the Stolen Idol box in my cousin’s garage when I was 5 or 6. My twin and I would root around in his garage and basement for years after looking for anything Joe related. Finally we were gifted with a big bag of GI Joe “junk” when he grew out of it! Happy Times!

Another excellent mini documentary, from Tony Roberts for Analog Toys. It took Tony less then three days, to create this entertaining and informative video! That is an impressive piece of film making, by anyone's standards.

I have great childhood memories of this toy. In the mini comic that came with the Stolen Idol set, Joe received the copter as an air drop and he had to assemble it himself from a kit making "some assembly required" part of the adventure. Palitoy really got their money's worth out of the basic copter with all the add-ons. Awesome video!

Tony, somewhere at my mom's house is a photo of me at Christmas standing next to the Capture Copter which is sitting on top of a Holly Hobbie oven set for my sis. Thank you for this video.

I rescued so many of my Joes with that toy! One of the best GI Joe toys of the seventies.

Thanks Tony. Man does that bring back memories. My best friend (next door) had the Yellow G I Joe Copter and we had HOURS of fun with it. He also had the Space Capsule too -- be nice to see that again (hint hint). Oh, nice T-shirt.

Great video! My most treasured childhood Christmas memory is getting the Sears superset (which came with the helicopter and the ATV, stolen idol, mummy , etc.). I wanted it so badly and could see on Christmas morning that it wasn't under the tree. I did my best to hide my disappointment. Then after I opened my presents, my mom "found" a stray present behind the couch. It was huge (from my child perspective) and I knew immediately what it was!! I hope you will do a video in the future on the ATV which was also sold over the years in various colors and incarnations. Thanks for all you do!

Well thank you so much Tony for this. I didnt know what we had as kids until now!! The 1981 Assault Copter!!! Just a brilliant toy. My brothers and I just had the best time with this, the Jeep and an Action Man each! Thanks mate, great video!

I had the Adventure Team helicopter as a kid and spent many hours playing with it and the Headquarters. One thing that you could do was put the G.I. Joe medic stretcher on the front on the landing gear and use it as a rescue copter.

I miss my AT helicopter. I have the commemorative Hallmark ornament stashed away in a closet somewhere. Cotswold Collectibles was selling a hovercraft for a couple of years, but as far as I know it had no basis in the Adventure Team /Action Man era. Essentially, it was a sort of stall (like a chariot without wheels) that you could stand your Joe in and pretend to fly him around. The “bad guy” version came equipped with guns mounted on either side.

I got a G.I. Joe with helicopter for Christmas when I was a kid. I had so much fun with that.

/looks at the prices in the tv adverts. /looks at ebay prices. /cries I had the 2nd green version for Christmas 1976 - my 3 yr old self was overjoyed with it and remember many happy hours adventuring with it in the garden.

Freaking Awesome Video Tony!! Adventure Team G. I. Joe is one of quite a few classic toy lines I collect from the 70’s and 80’s..

My self and my brother had one of these each one christmas. Our budgie/parakeet at the time used to ride on the rotor blades and loved it. He would hold on like grim death. I would have been sick. Ours were green but had all the same features.

The attack helicopter was a great model. I never had any but as much as I love the look of the SAS version. The army attack and police helicopter would be amazing together, and my choice to own!

Tony this was awesome. My FIRST GI Joe toy was this helicopter. I still have it, somewhere. It started an obsession that lasted 35 years. Definitely need to find it and refurbish it with some TLC. And I need to seek out all those great UK versions, too.

I still have my Adventure Team yellow helicopter as well as the idol. The cobra is long gone, unfortunately. I have the same issue with one of the landing skids but have not looked to repair it yet. Thanks for the great video!

I find it amusing that the Capture Copter has armor plating whereas the Assault Copter just exposes the pilot!

I've never been hugely into realistic military action figures but there's something about G.I Joe/Action Man that feels special and nostalgic despite the fact I didn't grow up with either of them.

Yessir my first AT vehicle for Christmas in 75'..still have it in nice condition just front skid snapped off! The AT II Mobile Headquarters was my 2nd vehicle which i also still have complete in C9+ condition! Great review Tony enjoy the display!

I have all four of the Action Man helicopters, but i have a love hate relationship with them..... love owning them..... hate handling them. My Capture Copter is currently undergoing restoration, skids were obliterated when i purchased it (i don't think even Joseph could have repaired them) Forgot to add, great video Tony, i don't know how you got this out so quick! Amazing!

I received the helicopter and the Mummy sets for Christmas '72. The cargo net from the 6 wheeled vehicle, worked great with the helicopter.

I've still got a couple propellers LOL. Action team had such cool vehicles, especially for 12" scale. My favorite 12" joe was always the one you're using in the video. It's why Clutch was always my favorite Joe, because he really looked like the originals. Cheers!

In the 70's I had the original Palitoy copter and pilot. One of my favourite Action Man vehicles. Count myself lucky to have grown up in these times.

When I was kid, growing up in the late 70s / early 80s...I kept seeing an ad in the back of comics...for a mini-helicopter. And I thought I was gonna get it for Christmas. My dad was like...no you're not. Ha. Anyhow, the copter kinda looked like that Adventure Team copter, except no window.

This is my childhood. Thanks for yet another amazing time trip, Tony.

I think the Capture Copter version is my personal favorite because of the different canopy design, it just looks more armored and rugged than the rest. I wonder if the buddha in the Search For The Stolen idol set is inspired by the Golden Buddha rumored to be part of General Yamashita's treasure buried during the end of the Japanese occupation somewhere here in the Philppines.

My favorite vehicle from the line is the yellow copter, great video, I will have a new video up later today on the these helicopters and special 3d printed parts that have been designed to upgrade them.

I am from Puerto Rico and I bought a Action Man Green Helicopter an have the landing gear complete, glued in a few parts but complete, great video!!!

Great video Tony, I got the Capture Copter for my sixth birthday and I've been obsessed with it ever since. Like you, I've got two copters and I'm drawing the line at that.

Imagine Christmas morning, mid 1970s. I was gifted the Action Man green plastic helicopter. I had given no indication that I was an Action Man fan. Nonetheless, I was excited to be given the Helicopter, a couple of Action Men and the Colditz Set. I assembled the chopper and with my British Officer and German Guard I started playing. Boxing Day... The chopper was in multiple pieces. The winch was tangled beyond recovery. The rotors had broken or flown off at speed. The rotor mechanism had jammed, the skids had snapped off and the transparent windscreen was cracked. It went in the bin. No wonder they are hard to find today. They were rubbish.

I used to have the entire 45 rpm record set that had the "Search for the Stolen Idol" story. I had no idea that the story coordinated with a toy set. So awesome. Superb restoration by your friend! The Sea Wolf sub looks really cool. Have you done a video on that toy?

Once I had a great birthday (1974) in that some friends had a yard sale and my mother bought an entire collection of GI Joe from the sons of my mothers friend which included a Foot Locker filled with gear and this helicopter. Later I would get the Turbo Copter for Christmas. Sadly it was all given to charity when my father supposedly gave away the wrong box that contained all my toys in a move to another state.

I had that helecopter but in gray action man. I found it hid in my parents wardrobe. So knew was having it for Christmas. Day I found it asked my mum if I could have one for Christmas and she knew I'd seen it in the wardrobe

I had the green Army one made from 1974 on. I didn’t have the pilot figure just a couple normal ones and one eagle eyes. Costume sets I had at various points were, officer, guardsman, red devil, sabotage (the one with the big canister?), deep sea diver with all those weights, pretty sure I didn’t have any of the parade sets, I know I greatly desired the cowboy and cavalry western sets. I also had various other bits n pieces such as the dress up set. Friends had the motorcycle combi, Scorpion and Ferret. Plus one pal had the chance to play with demo models from ROF Barnbow. Memories eh? I think they based the original helicopter pilot on the Army display team pilots?

The SAS Helicopter has to be the coolest.

If I'll be lucky enough to collect all the copters released back then, I'll probably place them all with strings and display at the ceiling

I was unaware there were so many versions. The yellow copter when I close my eye is the one I see when I hear Action Man but I really like the SAS!

I was born in 78 so this stuff is over my head. I didn't know large joes existed till I found them in a hobby store in the late 90s. They are cool though.

Mine was my number one Christmas wish, I got a Land Adventurer the helicopter 🚁 and a Mike Power and probably socks but that helicopter was so cool exploring Grandma's yard in Oklahoma like it was my first time.

Tony, Sears & Roebuck had exclusive Adventure Team 2 seaters: Helicopter & 6 wheeled desert vehicle in either 1974 or 1975 in their Christmas🎄 Wish🧞‍♀️ Book📖 catalogue. They looked like they were made of sturdier materials in the photograph.

Another great video, Tony. As a child of a few years later (sadly, as I would have loved growing up in original-era Action Man), I got my Howling Mad Murdock figure in Galoob's A-Team line in a set with the 'Gyrocopter' which utilised the same push-button rotor spin concept. This toy actually always gave me suspicion that it was inspired by ?or maybe had at some stage been conceived as? a toy of the Gyro Captain's craft in Mad Max 2, as it's very similar. Nice vehicle though, still have it, though sadly it's one of the rare few I didn't take much care of over the years and it's due some extreme renovation. (Sorry, was that off topic or not?!) :)

It is a lovely piece but so hard to find without broken skids/busted tail. I love both of mine. As for the room they take up, it's about the same as the MSV but way less than the 21st Century Toys' Little Bird.

Had the army version, such a great toy...I even remember my mum asking Palitoy for some extra yellow elastic bands which held the rotors into the hub. Never seen the Gi Joe version, but its the basic green army one for me, oh and the pursuit craft, which I still have...the helo crashed - m.i.a

Never had any of the larger Joes. I do remember the first helicopter from the smaller line had a similar mechanism to rotate the blades.

I had the set as a kid. Didn't the back of the idol pop off and 3 large "gems" were inside?
