    Remember in mythology one often has to realize that the literal and metaphor are interchangeable so pushing them back into Gaia’s womb is more or less the same as banishing them to Tartarus. Gaia is the embodiment of the earth and Oranos is the sky.

    These could be seen as a metaphor for the "lower' classes. Each hecatonchire is a one-man mob of 50 people, unable to accomplish much of anything because the heads all disagree as to what the limbs should do, and they're consigned to the deepest pit of the Underworld because of their ugliness and disagreeable nature...but if treated with respect and given good leadership, they can move mountains and defeat their overlords and gain control over their own lives. It's really quite an inspiring legend, if seen in that way!

    @abulgarianvoice8366

    Yes, that's possible. I saw it as more of a metaphor for a single person and their many desires, thoughts, and actions. So until the person learns to control them maybe by being given a good and meaningful reason to do so (which is represented in the myth as being approached in the right way) he won't be able to do anything and will be a chaotic mess. It always pays off to view myths as direct and sensible representations of real world phenomena, I really think that that's the reason they were created, not at all as shallow superstition.

    If nothing else, I thank you for pronouncing the name of these Titans so well, and for the simpler spelling. Yours is a sympathetic examination of these beings, which I now hesitate to call "monsters" because they were rehabilitated. I mentioned that I never liked Zeus, but here's another case of his shrewdness and fairness : he exploited these giants, but he kept his word to them and showed them respect. As your video ended, I still wondered if I could accept these beings positively: I'm wrestling with it. What your videos have forced me to do is recognize that these myths often make us confront aspects of this world that we don't want to see. Thank you.

    I take it you're using what I call the "classical" pronunciation. In English, we've butchered the vowel sounds, so I'm thinking if we English speakers wanted to come close, a better phonetic version would be "AY-ka-tone-KEE-rayz" - which is why I've avoided and tripped over this name a whole year. I was not trying to correct you: your version is surely valid, and I see that the "ch" or "k" sound in the second stressed syllable is not stressed by a local speaker such as yourself. From where I sit, I would sound your version as "Ecca-toe-HYE-ress." So, I thank you for your comment: you forced me to break down my pronunciation - again - and I've veered away from the narrator's smooth pronunciation as a result.

    I can't help but to hear and imagine a story of colliding planets with the hecatonchires being unshapened satellites with many protruding features that were reassimilated into a larger planet or thrown out into space.

    Thank you for posting these! I actually use them sometimes as references when it comes to my religion. It's how I discovered your channel actually! If I choose to work with a certain Goddess or God, I will look up videos and read things online to make sure I've gotten everything correct (because things kind of blur together when you worship 10+ deities) so thank you!
