There is an underlying lesson about Charlie’s mistake here. NEVER standup to an abuser on behalf of their victim unless you are actually in a position to protect that victim from the consequences. It is a tragic but necessary lesson that many well intentioned people need to learn.

When you called “Poison” a tragic bop, it made me think of another tragic bop, a song from the Six musical, called “All you wanna do.” The song is a total bop and incredibly catchy, that when you really listen to the lyrics, it’s about sexual assault and repeated trauma of being used as a “toy” by various abusers.

An interesting and disturbing thing about Valentino being a moth. Moths use pheromones to attracts mates, which means it’s very likely that the pink smoke that he gives off has aphrodisiac and/or addictive qualities.

Same with his saliva I bet. Val and Velvette have a love potion perfume. But we have seen Vox’s mind control doesn’t work on Val. Seems like powers like control don’t work between overlords, and when Val licked Charlie there was no effect. She’s technically higher ranked and more powerful than an overlord.

This is the episode that firmly establishes the emotional weight of the show. We knew that Valentino was at least possessive and gaslighting Angel from episode 2, but this episode just confirms how much of a piece of trash he actually is. Blake Roman does an excellent job voicing Angel, with every line just filled with the fear, sadness and despair. Poison is indeed a bop, one that you almost hate to love. But Loser Baby is probably my favorite, because it focuses on letting Angel, and indeed people who think they have no one to turn to, know that they don't have to suffer alone. Their problems may not be fixed immediately, but they don't have to go at it alone. And Valentino has quickly joined the list of characters who within a split second you want to see burn🤬 Can't wait for the next reaction! You guys should be in for a treat😁😈

What killed me in Poison is how you see Angel in distress and then he snaps into his confident smile. And he keeps doing it all throughout the song. Makes you wonder how often he was in pain by you just didn't see it behind his smile. Also the worst (best) lyric to the song "What's the worst part of this Hell? I can only blame myself" Also "Any way you want me, baby That's the way you got me, I'll be yours My story's gonna end with me dead from your poison"

"This guy's got to go." "oh very much so." Everyone agrees that Valentino is the WORST! In some ways even worse the Angel Adam which is saying a lot given how awful Adam really is. Val is a mouth. It's why his vision is so bad and how he has to get close to everything to see it. Its why Angel says that it took him 30 minutes to count 3 bills once. It's so heartbreaking how Angel was more scared for Charlie than for himself. He didn't want anything to happen to her and he was being mean and kicking her out to protect her. He really doesn't want to see anything bad happen to her. He blames himself for everything that's happen to him because he did sign the contact. The thing about the song Poison is that it portrays how artificial everything is. By showing Angel happily dancing with faceless strangers while the flashbacks shows what actually happens, and how deep the abuse goes, no to mention how his face changes from a fake smile to a terrified expression between frames and it's all a fabrication. Blake Roman did such an amazing job as Angel and you can hear him switch back and forth between the Angel Dust persona and Anthony. I had seen some backlash with people talking about how Angel isn't reacting "like a victim should" which I think is extremely unfair because everyone reactions to trauma and situations differently. I also think this ties into all the internet purity culture that has risen up on the internet in the past couple of years. As we've seen Angel is messed up with everything that has happened to him. Hypersexuality is a trauma response to SA. Coming onto people puts them in the dominant role when they are usually the one dominated. They've learned that sex has power and if they use the power on others that means they call the shots and no one can hurt them. Many SA victims hate the idea they are victims. They try to own their sexuality and it can make them feel like they have more control in their life. I think being as flirtatious and open about sex as Angel acts is part of his personality but due to everything he has gone through because of Val he is using it way more then just enjoying it. I saw an edit on ticktok made an edit if you notice Husk's pupils, they're always kinda thin and pointy. But after his scenes with Angel, every time they are together, his pupils are dilated and big, like a kitten which I think is SO CUTE and shows Husk really does like Angel. I can't believe neither of you have commented or pointed out how the sharks are LOAN SHARKS! I think that's so hilarious and reminds me of the loan shark demon from Buffy in the episode Tabula Rasa. Also something to point out is the pink drink that one of the shark poured into Angel's drink to drug has the same smoke effect that Val's smoke does. I don't know if this has been 100% confirmed yet but I think that's Val's saliva/ pheromones bottled and used to put people under the influence like his smoke does. I'm still sort of reeling from hearing Keith David sing the lyrics "power bottom." Never was that on my bingo card for this show. Hahaha. This is possibly the best episode of the series but I am so excited to see you react to episode 5 the most. I've been wanting it more then anything. EDIT: A comment I saw on a tumblr post about Valentino being a Virgin Tiger Moth Apantesis virgo. Oh the irony in that.

I'm not sure where Charlie fits, but probably more powerful than the overlords at the very least. It is telling that the REALLY powerful beings in this show don't throw their weight around or try to intimidate others because they don't have to. This is definitely the most emotional episode in the season (and in my opinion, the best for it). I cannot hear "maybe if I end up broken, I won't be his favorite toy anymore" without crying. As someone who's struggled with depression most of my life, I'm used to thoughts like "I wish I had something to live for tomorrow"; so while those are hard, they don't hit me as much. But the idea of wanting to break yourself just so someone else will leave you alone? I can't relate to that, which makes it so much harder to hear 😢

I am gonna watch this later because I'm trying to stay ahead of you guys so that I can watch the show and watch your reactions without being distracted by the show... But the tag has Papa Jay's cry face... so I appreciate you preparing me to the "cry/fall deeper into love with you both" moments. I love the Orchard (and seeing two cis progressive smart FUNNY gents) do their thing. Post script... When I feel down... I watch the jeopardy episode where Adam sees the category. Love Letters and says "good there's only twenty six" sincerely... and Jay gives him that "I am so proud of you just being you" look. 😂

Love your reaction! 💜 Jay… we all knew what would happen with this episode… I would guess a lot of the Peaches out there are in touch with our emotions like yourself, so we knew. I cry every time. ADAM if you see this my head canon is that since Lucifer is a fallen Angel, Charlie is hell born but has a heart of an Angel.

It's a fun lore tidbit. But I'd rather they not lean into that idea. Charlie as a character hits much harder if she's the way she is.. because that's just the way she is. Her kindness and compassion aren't a result of her birth, but just who she chooses to be.

@@troikas3353 I agree, people kinda overplay the innate properties of angels angle and I think Charlie just picking up on the best qualities of her parents because that's who she is as a person feels more meaningful to me.

Yeah, this episode comes in with a bullet. Hit me hard, too. But the episode deals with a very sad, and unfortunatly, very real subject in a both heartfelt and informative way without feeling like it's being too earnest. Good pairing of the songs. Really well done.

I watched this reaction when it came out. In watching it again today I saw one of the things I love most about you two. You are both often emotionally vulnerable when you watch certain things. I feel that Jay is the more emotional of the two of you. I love how when Jay is in his feels, Adam checks in on him and offers comfort. It's so sweet and not seen nearly enough from men in most media. I love you guys.❤

Love this episode and both songs in it are two of my favourites! I hope that Husk's redemption specifically includes an arc around freeing all those he owns (and the show explaining more about how it all works), can't see how he could be redeemed unless he lets go of the power he thinks comes with that. Could be a possible learning moment for Alastor as well, because the irony there comes from the fact despite his obsession with being in control, all the dark power he gathers will never be able to trump an angel's light.

When does Adam accept that it's not that musicals aren't his thing, it's just that he hadn't found the right one yet? Every time a new song starts he gets as or if not MORE excited than Jay.
