The heat is here: Here's what Arizonans have to say

Arizonans are reacting to triple-digit temps, which they think have arrived a bit early. By this week, we're expected to hit our first 110-degree day as a days-long Excessive Heat Warning is in effect. FOX 10's Ashlie Rodriguez has this story.

I made the mistake and moved from Charleston, SC to Gilbert, AZ a few years ago. It was easier to cut the grass in AZ at 116* than it was in SC at 85*. The hottest I saw in AZ was 126* but only 10% humidity. That was hot, but in SC 95* and 90% humidity feels worse.

Unfortunately, accidental drownings were up during that time because lots of people had pools. I was also there when they hit their first record of 124 degrees! People stay inside during the summer and go out during the winter.

In Phoenix, it's literally too hot to be outside in summer. All the houses in the neighborhood my grandmother used to live in (Scottsdale) had a pool in the backyard, including hers. Long Island (New York) summers are also brutal but in a different way. The humidity is unbearable and most people do not have a pool in their backyard because our winters are bitterly cold with snow. We also get so much rain. Long Island is prone to extreme rainfall. We get many thunderstorms in the summer months. Summer temperatures on Long Island are definitely lower than in Phoenix but our humidity is very high. We can definitely get into the 90's in summer with 80% humidity or higher.

@@MaxxBigg Stop believing everything your TV tells you to believe. Data from NOAA's Climate Reference Network shows no sustained increase in daily high temperatures in the United States since 2005 when that network began. In recent decades in the United States, heat waves have been far less severe than they were in the 1930s. At that time Heatwaves were more than 6 times worse with greater frequency and covering a larger area than the last decade (EPA). The most severe heatwave year was 1936, and was about 13 times worse than current. This year only 4 US states have achieved higher temperatures than 1936. Many states in 1936 achieved temperatures 15° hotter than the present. The all-time high temperature records set in most states occurred in the first half of the twentieth century. So far in 2023 (up to 1st August, 2023) the percentage of US Historical Climatology Network Stations reaching or exceeding 95°F (35°C) is at a record low (1895-2023) of 51%. When you’re sitting inside, because it’s too hot to go out, you might want to read James Hansen’s “storms of my grand children“. That’s ALL BS…..l lived in Phoenix for 50 years. June is usually the hottest month but it’s also dry in June so there is relief at night. The earliest 100 degree day was in early March…in the late 70’s early 80’s as I recall. I also remember a nighttime low of 108 in July after a high of 124. So all the “Johnny come lately’s” who have limited life experience and less experience living in Phoenix are quick to blame what is actually normal Phoenix weather on the “global warming” scam….its NOT news, its called living in Phoenix. It’s only news to those looking to sensationalize something they have just become aware of by moving to a different climate.

It is very, very hot here. We're thirsty, we're dying of this hot, dry heat. Everybody, especially Californians, stay at home. Do NOT come visit, do NOT come stay. Leave us alone in our misery. Thank you!
