I used to be this person, and I was a scientist. I was sitting there in the lab watching my colleagues induce Type II Diabetes in mice using a 40% fat HFD chow and I was still like "but what about sugar??" Even with that evidence, I was still convinced it was carbs. Everything in my world had verified it for me, personally, since I was undiagnosed Celiac and quitting carbs made me better. It was proof to me that carbs were evil! I had to see Dr. McDougall's video about Steve Jobs' cancer -- a field I had worked in -- before I finally realized "maybe he knows what he's talking about" and gave the plant-based people a fair listen. And *then* I discovered they were the ones with all the data to back their claims and I felt like a dope. Everyone hears it when they're ready, so don't give up on your friend. Just try to find something you agree on in common and try to reach her that way. That's what worked on me.

Solid production & presentation but while I have alot of respect for Dr.Greger this video showed that he is completely ignorant on the topic of Mycology & mycophagy or the practice of fungal consumption. Fungi are not plants nor animals & you cannot use studies on plant protiens to extrapolate the effects of fungal nutrition. Fungi have as different a biochemical make up to plants- as animals do. If Dr.Greger broaches the subject again, he needs to get into contact with an actual Mycologist as an advisor. As a student of Mycology & practitioner of applied Mycology, this video was extremely disappointing.

@@rameshraghothama8324 Are you talking about things like Cordycep Militaris being grown from chicken eggs? As not only is that a novelty & isn't common to commercial practices- Most vegans probably don't think much of it at all. As most people including consumerist vegans are not well aware of how most food production actually works. Veganism is about the reasonable absentia from animal consumption & exploitation, if you do not have access to local Veganic farms, it is reasonable too assume your consumption habits are going to have a higher impact in that arena than what most Vegans would like. Most people have very limited choice in the supply chains that they have access to. My personal answer to this was to build infastructer & grow food. Outside of that, most choice edibles are wood loving species, such as lions mane, shiitake or Oystermushrooms and are not commonly grown on substrates that contain animal products at all. Most comerical Cordyceps Militaris are grown from rice and soybean hulls, not insects nor eggs. If you had a specific example, I could better articulate my answer for you. As for Myco-paleontology, it is not my field of study but I do have some knowledge & thoughts. currently the oldest terrestrial eukaryotic organism is fungal mycelium from the Neoproterozoic era 635 million years ago, from fossil evidence in China. Tho evidence for Marine fungi date back over a Billion years ago from fossil evidence in northwest Canada. As for figuring out the evolutionary pathway of terrestrial fungi, I think if you want a solid answer to that; you would have to adress the question of how Lichenized fungi evolve into their niches- as filamentous fungal networks evolved from ocean soils & not terrestrial ones. The first place I would look are at Crustose lichens & the formation of biocrust. As it is biocrust that are the first step in soil formation on land. It is soils and water that form the foundational habitats for the ecology of microbes. The microcosm of filamentous fungi, blue green algea, cyanobacteria & yeast that makes a Lichen provides habitat for microbial mats that would other wise be much more vulnerable to the UV from the sun. It is the cycle of decay that these biocrust form that allows nonvascular plants , bryophytes, to establish. So I suspect saying terrestrial fungi evolved to prey upon microbial mats is more than likely an over simplification for what are complex webs of relationships and likely are not hinged upon a singular niche or instance in time. You would need to answer the critical question, did the lichenization behavior form before or after or because of a response to terrestrial microbial colonization. this question is especially hard to answer when you consider the fact that lichenization has happened independently as a convergent evolution among various species multiple times within the kingdom Fungi. Then you have many who think that fungi arrived here through the process of Panspermia, as fungal spores and lichenized fungi can survive the vaccume of space. Some think fungal spore arrived with Bacteria & Archea from asteroid impacts. Fun idea, not alot of evidence to support it other than our planet itself is likely sheding fungal spores out into space & those spores can survive, as far as we can tell, indefinitely. Again my specialty isn't Myco-paleontology. As fun ( and barely represented ) a field that is. My primary fields of study are Ecology, Ethics, Permacultural design, Mycoremeditation & applied Mycology & Lichenology. I train fungi to break down waste contaminates in soils, water and air pollution. I also study fungi for use in ecolgical design for small scale agriculture. Mycology is more so a field of questions than answers, because it is so vast yet so underrepresented. Including nutritional studies.

No one needs to know that, because it’s simply not true. I should know I’m a type 1 diabetic who eats meat, and it’s one of the most blood sugar regulating foods I can have without taking any insulin! @@berserkerbard That you don't see blood sugar levels spikes, doesn't mean the body isn't giving out insulin. Blood sugar is not insulin. Insulin helps your body absorb sugar from your blood into cells. If you don't eat 'sugar' (or carbs in general) your body won't have a blood sugar spike. That doesn't mean it won't secrete insulin anyway. My mother has diabetes and gets treatment from diabetic specialists. She is told that the evidence shows that eating too low on carbs (under 30-50? I think, don't know exact number for sure anymore.) actually causes insulin resistance and therefor diabetes in the long run. So going super low carb for a longer time as a healthy person, actually can cause diabetes.

The problem in the UK is it normally costs more per kg than beef mince but oddly enough they also put it on sale a lot. I tend to buy it when it's cheap and then mix it 50/50 with beef mince, works fine for things like spaghetti bolognese or lasagne but not for home made burgers. Quorn sausages are ok and fake chicken pieces are ok for stir fries but you can tell the difference between real chicken & Quorn. Quorn burgers are just no, not a patch on proper ones.

Fungal kindom Mushrooms are just the fruiting body. And it isn't plant based because Fungi aren't plants. They have a different biochemistry from plants. It would be liking saying soy is from the flower kingdom. You can and should still eat fungal foods on a plant based diet, as they're not animals either. I wouldn't have used plant protien in comparison to animal protien for this example for those reasons. As a student of applied Mycology ( fungi ) I was disappointed by this video.

Feeling especially sorry for athletes, who consume BCAA in large quantities along with other isolated sports nutrition items: can only imagine what the impact of the regular isolated/concentrated BCAA intake is, if just as a component of animal protein they cause such a significant shift towards insulin resistane.

Also BCAAs are the primary driver for muscle protein synthesis along with resistance training. Lean body mass is a good thing. Frailty is a very bad thing. Especially for the elderly. You can be vegan and still build muscle. But the low protein mantra is just as bad as the low carb mantra that the keto people spew.
