The Haunted Mansion Story! - Disneyland - 1969

Ойын-сауық

Welcome Foolish Mortals to the Haunted Mansion!
In 1969 Disney made a long playing record about a story of two kids lost in a rainstorm who find and seek shelter in the unknown Haunted Mansion in this storyteller album!
I bought this record album when I was a early teenager at Walmart and it blew my mind away because this was the new attraction ride at Disneyland in California at the time!
I listened to this record a lot and I would pretend to follow the story like I was in the Haunted Mansion and kinda new what to expect when I went on the ride at Disneyland!
I love this Ghost story - it is voiced by Robie Lester and a young Ron Howard - the drawings are from my record album that I bought in 1969!
I added some pictures of the Haunted Mansion that I had to the story!
You can still buy by this CD version and it has all the same drawn pictures in the Storybook CD!
Happy Hallowween Foolish Mortals and enjoy the story of the Haunted Mansion!

Until I discovered rock and roll....THIS was my favorite album as a kid. From about 6-10, I wore this album out each night. (By the way, applause for Ron Howard as 'Mike'). Had the record, and the board game, and I wish I had them both now. The Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland is STILL my favorite ride, and second home. It's tough to convey to you how trippy and downright mind-bending this album was...late at night....on dad's big-ass headphones; circa 1975-78. So much love for this.

Oh I LOVE hearing this clean and clear (since I wore my copies out as well)! I LOVED the sound of the grand birthday party, well before I ever saw it in real life. I had the clinking glasses and laughter memorized. Fun Fact: two years ago I found the party chatter isolated on a sound effects record I found in a thrift store. "Oh, that's the funniest thing I ever heard!" a woman says (you can hear it at 17:50, just after the narrator says "Several ghosts were playing on the chandelier over the massing dining table.") It is VERY pronounced on the sound effects album, and when I first heard it my mind was blown - "Wait - that's - that's the Happy Party Lady Ghost?!" Of course I compared and yes indeed, it matched up, glasses clinking and all. I forget the name of the record, other than that it said "Crowd Sounds" and had an image of a laughing mouth on the cover. On it are audience laughter, stadium cheers, a busy office, and the cocktail parties. Obviously all recorded pre-1969! Minutia, yes, but us Haunted Mansion fans dig that kinda stuff. Again thanks for posting this perfectly CLEAN clear recording!

1982, Anaheim, California my first experience with The Haunted Mansion. My grandfather bought me this read along record book. I kept it in mint condition, practically prayed to it. I gained Spiritual elation and joy from this work, the images, the evilness it all spoke to me as if a loving parent. Not unlike the Ghost Host “i told you would not be harmed” a polite guide who wishes you go have an awesome, yet disturbing experience. This work Colors my life to this day.

Thanks for posting this. I see 27,000 views so far. That makes me feel less alone in appreciating this story. Countless times I listened to this, and especially when it wasn't Halloween. I have no idea how they came up with this, but I understand the newer version doesn't have this story. I don't know. The Haunted Mansion is one of the few rides I really remember as a kid. The other one, which is no longer there, is the, I think, the rocket. This was a ride that the spectators could witness the people inside appeared to have shrunk.

Actually that ride, which introduced the omnimover ride vehicle, was called Adventures through Inner Space. It shrunk you down through the wonders of *magnification* and sent you into the inside of a snowflake. But when the Mansion came around and they looked back at Adventures through Inner Space, they considered taking the omnimovers, then known as Atom-mobiles, and convert them into Doom Buggies.

Grandma used to take me to Disneyland when I was little! Small World was my favorite ride! But, Haunted Mansion was my second favorite! I wasn't afraid! The MUSIC! Complex enough (Particularly the pipe organ part!) to make me love it in an instant! ...I remember when I was about to become a freshman opera major in college. They asked me if I could hear the difference between a diminished chord and an augmented chord. I said yes. I had loved diminished chords since childhood because of the Haunted Mansion! I think that Maria Di Palma (She was Dr. Larsen's assistant head of the music department.) knew right then that I would be able to learn 20th Century opera roles... Thank you so much for posting this! I used to listen to this record several times a week as a child! Thank you for bringing back such a wonderful memory! Susan

I am so totally on board with the House of Mouse version of this song when Pete released a trio of Hitchhiking Ghosts onto the club to scare everyone away only for this to fail and they decided to scare him instead. Which features the Hitchhiking Ghosts, the Lonesome Ghosts, the Hatbox Ghost, the Executioner, the Bride, the 4 Skeletons from Silly Scary Symphonies The Skeleton Dance, and a screaming naked Pete. I always dream about this every time.

My husband bought the CD and I love it. I am a disney girl through and through with one of my favorite rides being the Haunted Mansion. I’ve got my fair share of books on Disney park history and love sharing that knowledge with other Disney goers when I’m in line with people. Most seem to actually like the knowledge especially if they’ve got kids with them. (Though that might be because I’m distracting their little ones. Lol) Personally, most of my family trusts my husband and me’s advice when it comes to being there.

64 years old in 2023, happy to still have my STEREO (yes, it is!) LP. A few years ago I bought the CD reissue and it is also stereo. The main use of the two channels is making the Ghost Host's voice bounce from one speaker to the other, but that's a good effect.

I totally thought this was going to be another documentary style video about the development of the actual Disneyland attraction when I clicked on the thumbnail. (I'm always open to watching one of those no matter how many others I've seen before. Love the Haunted Mansion!) So, of course, I was completely surprised to hear this story, which I probably loved more than had this actually been a documentary video about the ride. Thanks for posting this up, MrDisneyfanman.
