La wea weona weon!

Weón/weona is used for saying "stupid", "friend", "dude/girl", etc. There's so many uses for it but it depends on the context and mostly on the attitude you use for saying it

English native speakers if you are learning Spanish don't be discouraged....when they say Chilean Spanish, Mexican Spanish is 90% slang if you use standard Spanish everyone in the Spanish world will understand. For example in this video if you say Novio, Fiesta, bebe, estomago....instead of Pololo, Carrete , guagua, guata ....any Chilean will know these words ...they will identify you as a foreigner but they know these words through formal conversations, literature, TV etc.

In Mexico is used for Anglo people only. And gabacho means foreigner. That’s can be applied to anyone who’s an outsider or a place.

it is "cachai" and not "chachai", it is "guagua" and not "wawa", maybe the origin of the words was the one that u put in the video, but we dont write it like that

Wawa also means "offspring" in both Quechua and Aymara (native languages of South America) Jaden Smith is the wawa of Will Smith

Ni los chilenos sabemos cómo llegamos a sentir la palabra "medio" ocupada en ciertas frases, como algo grande. Frases como: la media cagada = tremendo desastre. Quedó la media cagada = quedó la tremenda cagada = quedó el gran desastre. Refiriéndose a una situación que pasó. También un alternativa es decir: La mansa cagada = un desastre muy grande La palabra "mansa" también es entendida como: grande. La mansa cagada = la tremenda cagada

I was born in Mexico and I speak the Mexican Spanish but i’ve watched the other videos with the Spain vs Mexico Spanish and most of the words the Spain Andrea uses I use too (as well as the Mexican Andrea) I’m not sure if maybe I was taught to speak both of them but it’s so cool learning other types of Spanish!!

For Spanish as a second language speakers don't worry, the difference is very subtle mostly the big difference is the slang or "modismos" for example Cachai, Carrete, Pololo etc if you use " comprendes, fiesta, novio everyone in the Spanish world will understand easily because that is standard Spanish.....even Chileans would understand this.

In Spain the "pololos" are baggy pants that women used to wear under the skirt and petticoat. That boyfriends are called that in Chile is funny since they also get under the women's skirts 🤣 Btw, "Guagua" in Spain, specifically in the Canary Islands, is said to the bus. En España los “pololos” son unos pantalones bombachos que se ponían antiguamente las mujeres debajo de la falda y la enagua. Que en Chile se le llame así a los novios es gracioso ya que al final ellos también se meten debajo de las faldas de las mujeres 🤣 Por cierto, “Guagua” en España, concretamente en Canarias, se le dice al autobús.

La etimología de pololo que usamos en Chile proviene de unos insectos que tienden a pegarse a la ropa de uno. Como los novios andan siempre juntos, tomados de la mano o abrazados, se le compara y se le llama con el nombre de ese bicho.

@@antclaropensé que era por el quechua que es el idioma que se habla en los andes wawa = bebé. Aquí en Perú usamos mucho el quechua para establecimientos del estado “wawa huasi” = casa del bebé o guardería

The idea that "gringo" came from "green go back" in relation to the Mexican-American war is actually a myth; the word was around years before that war. It actually comes from the phrase "está hablando griego" ("They're speaking Greek"), referring to any foreigner who couldn't speak Spanish well. The association with the US is likely just because Americans (estadounidenses) are the most common, erm, "meddlers" in the Spanish-Speaking Americas who don't speak Spanish well.

In Norwegian we use the same as the english for walking around without underwear " gå kommando" / go commando. Its under same series of slang as "riding shotgun" / sitting in passenger seat.😎🇧🇻

Pololo is an insect that sticks to you and just stays there, sort of a big ladybug. Thats why we started to call pololo to boyfriends, in our culture the relationship between young people are usually very sticky to each other.

Bueno como chileno quiero agregar algunas cosas que le faltó a Janet, weón también puede ser un insulto, como estúpido o idiota, también como "bro", depende del contexto. Lo de bacán es mejor decir eres bacán en vez eres una bacán o un bacán, y si, bacán es una palabra de género neutro, se puede usar tanto para hombres como mujeres, lo de andar a lo gringo, es no usar ropa interior (no necesariamente desnudo), por ejemplo alguien que anda con pantalones pero sin ropa interior sería andar a lo gringo.

I think most Americans don’t care if you call us gringos. Especially because a lot of people in the US just assume if you’re Hispanic in America you’re from Mexico. There’s a good chance that they are Mexican because of the proximity of our countries but there’s also plenty of other Hispanics in the states.

Eso tiene que ver con la influencia inca porque si llegaron hasta la zona central de Chile, pero no la lograron controlar por los mapuches no así la zona norte. Ademas que en la conquista de Chile gran parte de la poblacion que venia con los españoles eran yanaconas del Imperio Incaico

What is interesting is that "andar a lo gringo" would directly translate to another figure of speech in english, which is "going commando". I wonder how those two originated and if they're related in some way, given that "gringo" has something to do with the green uniforms of their military, if I'm not mistaken.

Yo soy de Mallorca. Eso es una exageración 😂 No hay carteles en alemán en la isla, todo está en español y catalán/mallorquín. En las atracciones turísticas hay carteles en múltiples idiomas, lo habitual.. Evidentemente hay algunos enclaves en los que hay muchos turistas, unos alemanes y otros británicos, y otros lugares en los que son residentes, en los que puedes encontrar nombres de bares, algún restaurante o así en esos idiomas... todo lo demás es falso y exagerado jajaja Que hay muchos? Sí, en algunas zonas. Y si te vas a la city, Palma, unos 500.000 habitantes, si ves algún alemán que no sea en la catedral, será que se ha perdido jejeje (de hecho, hay más inmigrantes latinoamericanos que alemanes en la capital). Resumiendo, en algunos pueblos y urbanizaciones costeras hay mucho alemán sí, tantos como para abrir sus propios negocios etc, pero decir que hay carteles en alemán en lo que es la infraestructura de la isla es lo más exagerado que he leído nunca 😂, esa profesora de alemán se ve que solo frecuenta esas zonas, típico "guetismo", por decirlo de alguna forma. PD: la isla tiene más o menos 1.200.000 residentes, de los cuales unos 60.000 son alemanes, 25.000 italianos, 22.000 argentinos, 20.000 marroquíes, 15.000 británicos, 15.000 franceses, 15.000 ecuatorianos, 15.000 colombianos, 10.000 chinos etc Un tercio de la población es de origen extranjero, multicultural la isla 😀 Unos se adaptan e integran más y otros menos.

En Canarias (España) también decimos guagua para referirse a autobús ;)

That’s interesting! When I visit family in Mexico and there’s a big bus coming they say “Aguas!” For warning. But I don’t know if it related how I’m assuming.

In Ecuador, we also use wawa/guagua for baby or children. And we also say “en media fiesta” to mean stark in the middle of a party

In portuguese (at least in Brazil's northeast), we also say "bacana" as somewhat of a cognate, but more in a derogatory way. We often say people are bacanas when they think too much of themselves (in which it also means cool person, but in a sarcastic way).

@@shimbas she was saying they can talk about everything and find a way to make it double sense. For example the "chile" (that it can be a Country or chile🌶️) it can be like "d-ick" or a way to name the "d-ick" it's like 🍆

@@shimbas espero que hables español para poder explicar 😭 La chilena dice que tenemos muchos modismos y que encuentra que son divertidos, pero usa el "for Chile", lo que da a entender (sobre todo a la chica mexicana) que jugamos con el nombre y lo usamos para todo (la mexicana menciona el chile de comida y para nosotros es ají y por el gesto, me da a entender que cree que también le decimos chile al miembro reproductor masculino (? Pero nooo!), entonces la chilena se sorprende y le dice que es el nombre de nuestro país, que cómo vamos a usar el nombre para cosas nada que ver. Pero todo en un contexto amigable, por eso fue chistoso y se reían xdd

If you say gringo in Costa Rica, automatically people would think you are reffering to a person from usa. Can't wait for the next episode with Laura from Colombia! I feel between Costa Ricans & Colombians we have a lot of similarities. Especially when speaking and accents. Laura understoond the same thing I understood from the chilean slangs

La parte que se parece a los costarricenses es la región Caribe de Colombia. En nuestros dialectos, la región caribe colombiana habla completamente diferente a las otras regiones de Colombia pero muy parecido a los países caribeños

We Colombians understand the Caribbean’s bc we have our own version of them, the costeños, anyway they speak waaay different than the rest of the country, we also have many accents and dialects, so there’s not like a standard Colombian accent, but we try to understand the mannerisms of each region

En Argentina le decimos gringos a los extranjeros blancos/rubios/castaños/pelirrojos de ojos azules/verdes y que en su mayoria no hablan el español. En las zonas rurales se les llama asi a los menonitas porque tienen esas caracteristicas y no hablan español Para especificar a un estadounidense le decimos yankee

I don't think most part of us Chileans say "a lo gringo", only a few ones. Most part of us say "en pelota" or "en pelotas".

Es que no es lo mismo andar a lo gringo que andar en pelota po! 🤣 Así que no es el reemplazo de la otra. Creo que faltó más explicación y andar a lo gringo hace referencia a cuando se está vestido, ya sea con pantalones, vestido, short, falda o lo que sea, pero sin calzones, lo que obviamente no se nota porque tapa la ropa

Andar a la gringo is more like "when someone isn't wearing underwear, just pants", but they interpreted it as if someone was naked.

In Argentina as well. “Andar en bolas/Andar en pelotas”. Women use the phrase too 😂

Si, es raro traducir algo del ingles de alguien español....nose si me explicu, pero bueno, cuando nos desarrollemos nos pondran en español....de igual forma, hicieron un buen trabajo, españa, mexico, colombia impecables, chile la mejor, saludos desde chile :)

Clarification, weon is absolutely a curse word, and it does mean something a long the lines of stupid or slow person. However, just like how Australians call everyone a cunt, we call everyone a weon/weona

The original word for "wevon" was "huevon", which is the same as "boludo" in Argentinian slang: big balls, testicles. Usually it meant a "dumbass" and/or "@$$hole". Now it has literally morphed into "dude"😂

¿Cómo del sur? ¿Del sur de donde? Andrea es española y lo de decir las palabras que acaban en "-ado" terminándolas en "-ao" es algo muy típico de aquí de España, y no precisamente del sur sino más bien de la zona centro (Madrid y por allí) pero que hoy en día está extendido por toda España. Y la otra Andrea es mexicana, no se si del norte o del sur.
