We had a rainy summer back during Wrath, so I figured, that was the time for "Insane". I spent 5 weeks in Dire Maul doing the Shen'dralar and Steamwheedle reps for 8-12 hours per day, until I was doing it in my dreams too. I leveled a rogue just to do the pickpocketing for Ravenholdt. The most timeconsuming was Darkmoon, which is soooo easy now. I completely lost count of all the hours/days/weeks, I spent picking herbs, grinding herbs and making cards, hoping to get complete decks to hand in. Even tho ppl cant tell, that I got the title pre-nerf, Im still very proud of it, coz I know. And after that, all other grinds dont really seem that bad.

Damn you actually went insane while doing it. Also the feat of strength probably has the date written next to it, so you can use that as proof of you completing it pre-nerf.

It's been years since I did this (shendralar included) and I always forget about ravenhold, only the vaguest of memories of running lbrs on my rogue alt. I maintained honored with bloodsail by grinding enemies close to ratchet and on the ships in Grizzly hills. Went through a lot of audiobooks back then, James Bond, wheel of time and the like. Wouldnt do it again but I wear the title proudly still, my personal badge of stupidity.

'The Insane' title back in Wrath took months. I remember spending days of game time in Dire Maul farming that quest and Thousand Needles farming herbs for Darkmoon cards. People that did it after Cata - and especially after the Darkmoon Island rolled around - really have no idea how 'insane' it actually was back then. These days it's more like 'The Mildly Mental' :P

Damn, Shen'Dralar back in Vanilla is definitely insane. One thing I never understood is why the Vanilla rep 'Thorium Brotherhood' was never added to the Insane title. It's another one of those Vanilla reps that's super grindy to get and yet has no cool achievement reward. It was just later kinda mixed in with a dungeon rep meta achievement from Cataclysm.

For anyone wondering, killing the goblin for 1 rep each with a 7 minute respawn, assuming any downtime, such as combat time killing him, taking a second to notice he spawns etc. We'll say 7 minutes and 15 seconds each cycle, or otherwords 435 seconds. 435 x 20,999 = 9134565 seconds 9134565 / 60 = 152242.75 minutes 152242.75 / 60 = 2537.3791667 hours 2537.3791667 / 24 = 105.724139445 days now 105.7 days doesnt sound too "insane" but you have to remember thats 105.7 days straight all wow through out. So lets say this man spends his day in 3s, 8 hours work, 8 hours grind, 8 hours sleep. thats 317.1723958334 days. Accounting for little things in life that can distract someone for a "day". You might as well say this man spent 1 year, one entire year killing the same green skin scrublord. There should be a honor held in his name.

There was very little combat time to kill the mob, it was pretty much 1 shottable by any 70-80 so hitting a /tar /cast macro was enough to kill it. They also increased the rep to 5 per kill sometime after the first 2 people did it (I believe it was a patch to no longer give reduced rep for being too high level difference.)

Felt so good with that trinket that summons the ancestor to fight at your side LOL (although for a super limited quick time) , and of course the old school Frostsaber rep to get the awesomely white kitty From winter spring! Happy days!!!!

I did the original Insane grind (completed it in 09). I have over 70+ exalted reps. It was a brutal grind (along with a few others). You were spot on describing all the things that had to be done. I spent a lot of gold buying cards and decks - I lived in the auction house and trade chat buying up diamonds (months)! The librams were a PITA because of them being unique and all the individual mats required to turn one in. It truly made me angry when Blizz nerfed it and just gave us a legacy achieve for Shen'dralar. I haven't worn the title in years because of that. Thankfully, I still have my original PvP titles! Also I love your videos so much! They're clear, concise and well researched. Keep it up!

The hardest grind in WoW history, and almost in MMO history, was the vanilla PvP honor system grind to rank 14. In order to make progress from rank 12-14, you needed to be in the top ~10-15 spots for your entire server in pvp honor points earned (by killing players or winning battlegrounds). For most heavily populated servers, this meant you needed 1,000,000-2,000,000 pts in a week. In order to not LOSE progress in rank 13, you needed to be in the top 1-4 positions for your entire server for honor points earned at the end of the week. Considering during vanilla that most servers had upwards of 3,000+ players, and many of those players were cheating by playing in shifts (or paying asian farmers to grind pvp points for them), you basically had to be pvp'ing for about 12-16 hours a day, every day, to have any chance. If you were #1 in honor points for your server each week, you could get through rank 13-14 in about 3 weeks. But most people couldn't maintain #1, and they'd fall to #2-10 in honor points, and then it would be much longer to get through rank 13. Most people that got rank 14 were so burned out on the game they quit and/or sold their account. I've heard there are some worse grinds in Lineage, but very few MMO's had grinds that required someone play an average of 15 hours a day to not lose progress in said grind

@@cornflakeshumunculus8373 I did it, and it got me really good at pvp. Went on to get rank 1 in 5v5 and rank 1 in 3v3 for arenas during TBC. You would think that anyone pvp'ing that much every day would "git gud" but there was a stigma against r14 players, that they just had lots of free time but weren't good at pvp. I think that because a lot of people who got rank 14 paid asian farmers to grind for them, or had guildmates share their account in shifts secretly, a lot of them didn't improve much at pvp

Tbh, I'm not really sure, which one was worst for me - Insane in the membrane or Hero of Shattrath. (Goddamn basilisk eyes... )With all the grind, at some point you just zone out and don't really pay attention. BUT, the achievements that nearly drove me insane were: 1. Draenor curator - 1289 total solves. RNG stacked up on RNG, then more RNG on top. And with no flying at the start, this felt like the most mind-numbingly tedious achievement I've done. Oh yeah, and no reward for that either, except for you get to throw your junk in the pantry of the Horde garrison. 2. Going to need a bigger bag - Sometimes I still have nightmares about farming crabs. Sadly I missed the time when the pets were tradable and counter towards the achiev. As of now, I am still missing 3-4 items, but I gave it up. It's just not worth it. Killing crabs for a full hour, just so it spawns on the other side of the island, where some trigger-happy dude blows all his cds on it, as if he just saw Sargeras himself. For a measly 10ap? Good riddance.

lol you played an alliance toon on a horde server didnt you ... did that grind when it first came out on my undead mage ... took 2 weeks .... did it on my human mage in 3 weeks just after too ... yeah different server alliance dominated .... seems people forget that min level toon can still run flags if the team is willing to cover their skinny butt while they haul hiney back across the map .... best toon to do it in is a gnome mage engineer ... in frost spec with arcane POM .... drop target dummies and any freeze spells you got when nearing enemies and blink away then add a pot of run speed and pom and blink and your across 90% of the field .... warsong was the best place to bg as a gnome pre riding as you were small enough to actually hide your name plate and toon in bushes and under carts ... no other toon could do that .... after the main rush past you snuck into their chamber and told your side get ready im grabbing the flag comming .... either tunnel ramp or gy .... the teamates would pull the mob to the opposite side and you did your thing ... the helaers would space out along the field and at your tunnel area to keep you alive and the rest would smack anything that came close ... while you froze it or delayed it anyway you could .... then of course the never fail have to clobber thier flag runner as he tries to leave with your flag while you are carrying his ... sooo many fights between flag carriers with 20 peeps in one room all trying to kill everything in sight lol

I got battlemaster fairly easily during WOTLK expansion because horde was dominating the battlegrounds, especially strand of the ancient where we had around 90% win rate, got 70 wins straight in 1day I remember

Grinding out the tailoring sets during tbc was a pretty big pain. I did both the spell fire and frozen shadow weave on a mage and spriest along with the spell strike pants and hood on both. Also hitting exalted with all the dungeon reps although most of the rewards weren't that good for my toons and just did it because I liked the dungeons during tbc.

Just buy someone CDs and you can get it in no time. And the dungeon reps was needed to do heroic which was required for raiding as you would need to do the 4 max level dungeons in each zone to be attuned. I still use my Champion of the Sha'Tar title sometimes

If you didn't want to lose rep with the Buccaneers, you could also do quests for this goblin located in western Feralas on the shore, just outside of the dock for the ship that takes you to Feathermoon stronghold. He had 2 repeatable quests that required you to circle the area around him and kill giants and water elementals. Simple stuff. I remember the rep increase wouldn't be displayed though. If you wanted to check your progress, you had to log out and back in.

I love that with certain reps, if you raised one then it would lower another, adds a layer of realism to the game, with they would do that more.

Bit of a difference in "oh, I'll put 100 hours of my time into this reward nobody else will have and that will make my gameplay that much better!" and "I'll put 400 hours of my time into this thing that will not matter in a week/that catch up mechanisms will make redundant"
