    I think little boys in Giliad also suffer beatings for not conforming to the very conservative gender roles. It’s to see the show acknowledging that it’s not only women in Giliad who are affected but some men as well.

    @@voicetest6019 Also because quite a few of the community elders are rich. Add in that a girl's father completely controls who she marries, and that marrying a girl off to an elder is a smart business move for that father. It makes him family to a rich man, and immediately gains that rich man as a very big customer for whatever business he runs or works for. And with that factor on the table, there's no way a 20-year-old guy can compete with an old goat of 75 who owns three construction companies.

    I'm watching this on repeat since yesterday and still can't stop crying! I was so happy for Rita being finally free and sad for Luke just waiting for Hannah to show up...and little Rebecca...she just broke me!! "This is the place where I can wear what I want?": this line is so simple and naive and yet so powerful! The music in the background!! WOW, WHAT AN ENDING! Thank you The Handmaid's Tale for existing!!!

    One of the many things I ADORE about this episode (which is one of my favourites, if not the one) is how all of the volunteers wear red uniforms, men included. Like they’re there to pursue June’s work and efforts; more than that: like they’re embracing and honouring the handmaids’ lives. Beautiful ♥️

  • @KindredKeepsake
    @KindredKeepsake6 ай бұрын

    That little girl was immediately on board the moment she was told that she could wear what she wanted. It didn't even matter to her that she was in a strange land, and that says a lot. Freedom of expression is just as important as freedom of speech. But my goodness, this music was freaking perfect for a scene like this. Got me all choked up.

    There’s something magical about watching children be reunited with their parents. They should never have been separated to begin with, it can make a person grieve themself to death.

    That thing about people dying from grief is not entirely true. It doesn't work so literally, there are several factors besides the separation.

    It's 2022, I've seen this scene so many times (Yes, I re-watched the show, and then watched it again), and it never fails to make me cry. Never fails! When Moira sees all those innocent children just sitting there, I just lose it. I start sobbing, and then as Rebecca sees her father, I am just full on crying.

    I am really moved by many parts in this clip, so so powerful! May I add, the boys being saved here is as much an equal affair. They now have the freedom of expression to be who they truly are with the joys and kindness of the world at their access. Also, imagine the escape from being forced to be a rapist and an abuser. Also, the escape from torment and punishment should they turn out to be gay. Gilead is a vile creation on many angles.

    Gilead is a deeply misandrist place. This gets overshadowed by the misogyny, and understandably so. And it's objectively worse for women and girls. But that doesn't change how horrible it is for men. Seeing the boys walk off that plane is such a relief. "Oh, yes. Them, too. They need to be saved too, and desperately so."

    She only got this plane because her daughter was relocated. She mentioned right after coming back from the hospital after Natalie's death that she meanwhile she couldn't save her daughter, she would save other children. If her daughter was there she would have settled for little sneaking visits, and these children would never be rescued. Sometimes those things happen for a bigger reason

    This is one of the standing out most touching scenes in the series. So much going on in this scene, with Rebecca and her dad, wit Luke, with Moira, with Rita and Emily, about June... Beautiful and tragic... Next to the scene where the handmaid's in the supermarket tell each other their names, it's one of the very powerful scenes.
