Looks like that old design is much better than the new ones like I have - the wire tends to slip out of the jaws when you are tightening it. Those are chinese knock off copies and they are made of cast iron. they will break in half at the most inconvenient time. You have to either get the Texas fence stretcher (made of cast steel), an antique one (made of forged steel) or a James Higgins out of Australia (made of plate steel).

Good job........ I use several different methods and different tools. Depends mainly on which truck I am in when I find wire to work on. Just strung a full plus 1/4 mile of brand new post and H Braces and corner braces with SIX STRAINS of wire. I used four rolls of 15.5 gauge and two rolls of 12.5 gauge. Started those runs eight inches off the ground and eight inches between each of the first four strains then to 9 inches then 12 inches at the top. This is bran new perimeter fence and the neighbor has dogs and he does not care to pen them up and the cows were here first. Praying for you and your family for Gods will to be done and comfort from the Comforter if needed. If you need anything, let us know. Will be glad to do whatever we can do.

One thing to learn.......On using steal fence post driver ........ never use them with handles on them. They are short....and if they pop off the top of the post.....your fingers could be in jeopardy !!!! Use the same pipe size....about 2 inch inside diameter. Weld one end shut. Primary...... make the driver pipe longer !!!! Nothing less then 3 feet. You can always cut it shorter ! That way it wont pop off the post...and theres no need for handles because you have more area of travel to hit with.....creating for force ! With handles.....its a good way to amputate fingers ! I know...... cut those in pieces !

You speak the truth, sir. At 69 years old, I have 700 ft of fence to repair. The Democrat Village idiot told me he knew how to tighten fence. I paid him well to drive staples halfway thru the fencepost to "tighten" the barbed wire. Ill do it myself with my 30% lung function. One section at a time. Thanks for the lesson.

Nice tool very simple could probably do it.
Looks right handy without all the tools to do it the other way.

What brand of gloves do you use?
do you have any examples of how you stretchback up the horse wire with 2 strands of barbed over it. where the cows and horses bend it down between the horse wire and the barbed ti eat the grass that must be greener in the ither side?
Praying for you and your family
That is the best fence stretcher by far I have used bought my texas fence fixer about 2 yrs ago and your right $100.00 dollar bill is about what it cost. Prayers to you all

@@BacktotheBasics101 Home cooked meal at the ranch?
does this work for HT single strand fencing as well?
putting new wine in old wune skins or sewing new cloth to old
Looks like that old design is much better than the new ones like I have - the wire tends to slip out of the jaws when you are tightening it. Still I really like the concept, and have been thinking of trying to build another set with improved jaws. I think I just saw the answer... God bless, and I send my prayers for your family.

There is a guy out of Australia called James Higgins that makes a set much closer to the antique pattern shown here, but with modern materials and design improvements. Might want to check it out for some ideas.
I do like the cheap option.
Several options under $50 on amazon. I'll be getting one for sure

Those are chinese knock off copies and they are made of cast iron. they will break in half at the most inconvenient time. You have to either get the Texas fence stretcher (made of cast steel), an antique one (made of forged steel) or a James Higgins out of Australia (made of plate steel).
What is that tool called you are using
Preach!,,
Good job........

Donde lo puedo conseguir en México
I need to get one of these, and yes our puppet in house is killin it literally 🤦♀️😳
Luke , do me a favor get rid of that tightly woven straw hat before you have a heat stroke, and get one that is lossely woven so the breeze can get threw to your head and help keep your cooler, wear that one in the winter 🥶 👍👍
I bought one of the Texas ones for about $100 and after about 3 uses it got a lot of slack in one of the joints where the wire passes through. Haven’t used it since.

Thanks Luke these videos have helped tremendously! I recently became a widow and am having to do everything my hard working wonderful husband used to do. Only 11acres but plenty of work nonetheless. The old saying is there’s a difference between common sense and common knowledge, if I had not knowing what that was I would’ve never guessed it was a fencing tool.👍🏽
4:34 that's not how I would describe him🤣
Gotta say, it is almost impossible to actually receive the real, original product on amazon. Every seller seems to be selling fake chicom knockoffs. I bought one that showed all the original pics and claimed it was the original, but a POS was delivered.
👍
