Thanks for this Big Al, I’m a much older guy whose itching to start catching air. This is very helpful. I am struggling to correctly bonk off the coping though, and I’m just too scared to try it on a quarter pipe with vert. I will continue to make baby steps though. Thanks for these videos.

Of course homie appreciate your support! No doubt it’s scary at first but the more you do it and try, the easier it gets over time. Figure out the things that work best for you. You got it man!!

Baby steps are the way. I’ve skated since I was 14 but I took off the last 10 years due to knee surgery’s. Wish I never stopped. I’m 50 so I’ve been through the 80,$ 90,s and on skating. Point is that I skated forever and when I stopped I regressed to a beginner all over again. Yea it was faster but the terror to drop in and do normal things was back to the beginning. The one thing I did was watch some of JB,S videos but I had to take baby’s steps. The best tutorials where his. They break it down nice and slow. I’m dropping in now and carving hard. Good luck man. Don’t quit ! Skating is my Hobby but it’s also a lifestyle. If your in the Atlanta area give me a shout .

Thing that was that taught me to use transition was a little launch ramp about 2 feet high. I learned how by putting a big garbage can in front of it forcing me to jump over it and doing what Al said and suck up your legs and feel the board just float up to you as your body goes up. After you get the feeling of catching air it’s just amazing and you’ll get it.

Great Vid Al. Any backside air tips?

With backside airs I’ve always found them easier to learn first off hips, but if your looking to hit a flat wall I think any qp 8 ft or taller is usually the best bet. Try and keep the board under you and rotate your shoulders. I also have backside air video on my channel maybe that can help out too!

For some reason. Transition to transition freak me out. I've always wanted to gap things like at 6:29 of the video. But man I just can't commit to the land. I feel like I'm going to shoot out or my back foot is going to come off and tweak my knee. I had ACL/MCL surgery after slamming from a 12 bowl. So now I think it's messing with my confidence...

Im learning backside airs, and i want to know where do pump? I mean how different do you pump vs something like a back side 5050? when I pump a BS air like a 5050, i feel like i pump twice, once at the bottom and then again when i bonk off the coping and if feels like too much body action. sometimes when i don't pump at the bottom transition and sort of just ride up, it feels more natural, to just grab and air. Am i tripping? is there any truth to this?
