The Gunter Train Collision

Ойын-сауық

On May 19, 2004, two rock trains of the BNSF railroad were running towards each other, north of Dallas, Texas. However, once they entered dark territory, things started to go wrong. You can only rely on track warrants if you drive a train through dark territory due to the fact that there are no signals in dark territory. In the case of the two BNSF rock trains, they didn't read them carefully, leading to a dramatic head-on collision near Gunter, Texas. It has been over 20 years since this accident, and yet, even outside dark territory, head on train collisions have still occurred since.

@@tr3boy919 No i get that i mean before the territory. Wouldn't the signals have worked and stopped One of the two trains before entering the dark area?

The signals before dark territory were both green, allowing both trains in, and the drivers didn’t read their track warrants carefully.

Track warrants are a sets of instructions issued to train crews authorizing specific train movements; they are the only thing you can rely on if you enter dark territory, where there is no signaling.

If you don’t read track warrants carefully, a fatal accident may occur, just like what happened in this video.
