Hey everyone thanks for watching! So I said Brad Gillis was fired but by like all accounts he left of his own volition to continue with Night Ranger and make the hit “Sister Christian” and thus he more likely FIRED OZZY from HIS LIFE. Chalk that one up to my brain damage, I did him dirty! Let it be known. Love ya

@@GerhardGeficky-jg4ok The problem may have been that Jake E Lee was more of a guitarist than musician? I think it was a common problem among 80s guitar gods who followed Rhoads and Van Halen. They worked on the techniques more than the music. I love Jake E Lee as a guitarist and I think he is a good musician in the context of another songwriters great song, but he was never able to be compelling enough to start his own thing. Even Satriani and Vai and Malmsteen are boring to me, because they are also guitarists but not musicians. Music is not about just doing just a bunch of magic tricks onstage; it is about using songs to say something (more important than "look how great i play") that resonates with an audience. Lots of musicians actually suck at guitar, or any instrument (including voice) but they create music that people can relate to, and it is not just because people that don't get the shred are idiots. Shred, esp. in the 80s, can seem quite assholishly macho. But when shred is put into the service of a message (and is not the message itself) than it can be effective. I have a good idea what Ozzy's message to the world is all the way back to Black Sabbath, but what is Jake E. Lee's message to the world? As "great "of a guitarist he is (at least by shred standards of greatness), He's never made a compelling musical statement of his message to us.

Monstrous versions of Sabbath classics on that album. Since it was my very first exposure to Black Sabbath’s music as a kid , I still to this day prefer some of the Speak versions to the originals. Brad did a fantastic job for Ozzy. Doesn’t get nearly enough credit.
I had Zakk Wyld on my shoulders at the Backroom club in Austin, back in the mid 90's. He put my cowboy hat on and I pranced him around the place!~ Memories!~
Brad Gillis was not fired he chose to leave because Night Ranger was just about to take off and he preferred to stay with them.

Jake E. Lee seriously deserves more attention. Bark at the Moon and Ultimate Sin hold up just as well as Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of A Madman.
I gotta say. GREAT video. Here I thought that I was all up to speed on all of Ozzie’s guitarist. Hell I didn’t know some of those players played for him. So yeah, sure, I’ve learned some things. Ozzie has always had his pic of the litter.

Saw him with Ozzy twice. The first performance (Brixton) was far from polished with a few glances of frustration from Ozzy. The next was much later in Memphis. By then the band was tight but Joes stage presence was weak with him mostly walking in small circles on his side of the stage.
Great Video! Thanks! Great times from Rhodes to Wilde!

From Blizzard up until No More Tears are all pretty awesome. I wasn’t really into Ozzy when I was younger but Randy, Jake, and Zakk, but an honorable mention has to go to Brad Gillis, he filled in between Randy’s death until Jake joined and they recorded Speak of the Devil and if you’re into guitar it’s a must listen Brad Gillis stepped into an impossible job and he absolutely killed it. They played a bunch of Sabbath tunes on it too. Gillis was always intended to be a temporary member of the band, he was helping them make the dates they were committed to, he wasn’t fired he was just filling in and always was going through with Night Ranger .

I didn’t really get turned on to Ozzy until the 90s when Zach was the guitarist and I was hooked. BLS!
This was well done. Bravo.
This was a good essay. Covered everything so well.
Jake E. Lee for me nr. 1.And Bark at The Moon and Ultimate Sin is Ozzys best album, mostly because of Jake.
This was pretty cool, good job.
I always thought it was cool of Ozzy to feature an acoustic guitar instrumental on his debut record as a solo artist.
When I was an adolescent, he’d only had 1. Not much of a discussion. Also, Brad wasn’t fired. He left voluntarily after the tour to focus on Night Ranger.
I first saw ozzy in 1988. Zakk was on fire. Though seeing Zakk with Pride and Glory was so amazing. Later in the mid 90s I saw ozzy with Joe Holmes. Joe surprised me bigtime. I wish I got to see Badlands.
Well played sir........ well played.
Very well done dude 🤘
Randy was the greatest rock guitarist of his time, period. I think he is the greatest metal /hard rock player of all time. Keep in mind, Randy was plying like this in the mid 70’s! The man was completely ahead of his time and influenced generations of guitarist. Jake is so underrated. He is a master of the instrument and his song writing is top notch. Zakk, one of the best to ever do it. All three of these guys are in my top 5 favorite guitarist.
Long live Ozzy!!!! And damn good video my brother!!!
Always thought Jake was an amazing guitarists and really loved those 2 albums he played on - first 4 albums are classics - saw Zakk when Ozzy did a short UK tour to break him in - middle of Summer at Manchester Ritz ( which rarely had gigs then) I thought the ballroom floor was going to collapse it was bouncing so much !!!

@@shaunclifton5281 I couldn't agree more! I think the thing that so many either forget or overlook about that era is that it was just plain FUN! Vince Neil said a while back that the drive about that whole scene was to forget about your everyday worries, go out to a show and have a blast! I LOVE THAT! Sadly, it's also sorely missed... As for Jake... Jake isn't just a master musician, he's an amazing showman. The man has an air about him that no one, save for maybe Eddie, could match. Not to take anything away from other giants of the guitar, Jake is unique. He can play circles around most other guitarists, look incredible while doing it during a show and yet remain humble about himself and one of the nicest guys you'd probably ever meet. A LEGEND!

Glad you focused on Mr. Crowley. I had a Picture disc of Ozzy and the Live version of Crowley on that was the best. Glad you mentioned Bernie Torme Bernie was a hero to go into that position. Randy recently died, Ozzy and the band depressed. Bernie said he couldn't hear the others at MSG yet he played on. Jake E. Lee was good too. Too many waning songs with Zach but No more tears was great.
I seen Ozzy in 1996. I was unaware that Zach was not playing with him and I was so depressed about it.. I love that I got to see Ozzy but I was really really down that I didn't get to see Zack with him 🥴
Bernie Torme is one. Also all these auditions that were done with Alex Skolnick, George Lynch... Steve Vai...
I notice Zakk borrowed a lick from Hotel California at the end of his solo on Mama I'm Coming Home.
Jake E Lee!!!!!!
I saw Ozzy with Zakk in Pennsylvania around 2018 was one of the best concert I ever saw
This whole topic of looking back at all his past guitarist was probably the most talked and debated conversations among fans and young amateur guitarist the world over mainly cause I can't think of another solo artist that had so many incredibly talented top tier players .I think we can all agree it was Rhoads that revived Ozzys career from the brink of obscurity to bring something so new .unique and gratifying to fans and the first to come along with the same kind of brilliance and abilities that Eddie Van Halen had brought to the industry a few years earlier when he reinvented the wheel and showed wat was actually possible from the instrument .but brought even a higher quality of songwriting with much more complexity in Randy's compositions blending classical music with Heavy Metal that came off sounding so haunting and mysterious as music from centuries past .but more than anything raised the bar for other young talented players that were influenced by the groundbreaking playing of Eddie and Randy .these two changed the game just as much as Jimi Hendrix .Jimmy Page .Jeff Beck .Eric Clapton had done decades earlier . In a way Ozzy owes his entire career to the guitar players that he chose to surround himself with .they all were the cornerstones of his music and.the key to his success .truly the heart and soul of his band from start to finish
Good job, dude.
I don't believe it is accurate, that Brad Gillis was fired from Ozzy. I think he was offered the gig, but chose to go back to his original band Night Ranger, who had some hit songs like Don't Tell Me You Love Me and Sister Christian, out around that time. I saw Brad with Ozzy at Alpine Valley Wisc., and he did an incredible job of filling in for Randy Rhoads, on I believe only about 10-14 days notice!
I got to see all of these guitarists play live with Ozzy, except Gus G. 🤘🏼
Ozzy is Ozzy
All of them were phenomenal guitaris...t, I loved Randy and Jake... Zack was something else. And damn the man could play 💪🔥💯🎸
Brad Gillis wasn't fired. He only came on temporary, until Night Ranger got a record contract.
Mr Jake E Lee rules !!
J-Jake E. Lee… 🥺
Honestly it was a good thing Iommi and Butler weren’t on this list. The music they made was an absolute game-changer, revolutionary in a way that transcends genres and cements itself in history. Iommi was a riff machine well beyond anything that came later with Ozzy’s solo career. Rhoads was absolutely an amazing guitarist and advanced his instrument in the metal genre, but it’s one thing to forward a genre and it’s a whole other thing to create one.
At one point after Randy there was a young guitarist named Curtis Fairchild who played with Ozzy.
Randy's outro tapping riff on "Flying High Again" was shown to him by George Lynch.
I remember being a Kid and see the video from mr Crowley and get insane thinking "well, this is what I want for life"
Jake e Lee was the player who got my attention, played great looked the part & fit right in.
4:25 - 4:37 😂 that’s the best description of what happened when Ozzy went from UK Metal to US Hard Rock. ❤
Good vid
I think the only reason Ozzy became anything after Sabbath is because if Randy and Bob Daisley writing the kick ass tunes. The world was a lot different in 1980, i remember because I was ten years old that year and "crazy train" blew up on rock radio. There was no MTV yet, definitely no KZread lol, so radio was everything back then, every city had at least two big rock radio stations, usually three, so good songs were the only way anyone was going to get anywhere. That song writing magic from Randy and Bob's doesn't grow on trees.
Joe went to my school, he used to bring his Marshall head to my buddy Tim Bieners house and crank it thru a little amp (crate maybe?). He played a couple open parties at my house in the late 70’s in the SF Valley when that was a thing. Agree, totally legit guitar player.
Geez Brad was epic. Speak of the Devil is one of the best selling Ozzy albums ever. How could miss him?
