"The GTX 480 for professionals"

Ғылым және технология

The GTX 480 was a high-end beast back in the day but there was also a cut-down professional graphics card based on the same GPU. Sure it was slower, way more expensive and not designed for gaming, but even after a decade it can still run a few modern-ish games.

Hey! Just wanted to let you know, most of those "Driver out of date" error messages that stop the game from loading can be skiped by changing the driver version number in Registry. I needed to do that with my Fury X to play some games, wouldn't lauch without the edit, but after I told the game my driver was newer then it really was the game ran fine. Maybe that could let you test some games!

@@RandomGaminginHD One tricky aspect of that though is the degree to which games back in those days were so CPU dependent in many cases, an issue about which gamers were often rather oblivious. In other words, testing this era of GPU with games from the same era but using a modern CPU would give results very different to those seen back in the day, though it'll vary of course, depends on the game, resolution, etc. Also note that, back then, the standard resolutions were 1280x1024, 1680x1050, 1600x1200, 1920x1200, 2048x1536 and 2560x1600. The mass-produced rise and domination of 1080p was not yet a thing. OTOH of course, if one tested using a platform from the same era then it wouldn't show what the GPU was capable of today, though in most cases even back then the frame rates were usually more than playable, except often for 1200p and higher. Even by the time the 390X came out in 2015, lesser resolutions selected by some sites were still 1600x1200 and 1920x1200, eg. check the review on Guru3D, though others had moved on, eg. toms used 1080p, 1440p, etc. An odd transition period when test resolutions were all over the place.

Quadro 6000 was a GTX 480 for professionals; while the 4000 uses a GF100 GPU just like the GTX 480 or even Quadro 6000, it was cut down so much (more than a 470 or 465 that also were based on the GF100) that I'd wager it would lose comfortably to a GTX 460 let alone a 480.

I used these in a couple of pro systems a long time ago, but fitted with a better 3rd-party large (for its time anyway) 2-fan cooler (Gelid IcyVision Rev2) which made them run silent with good temps. Sold one to an engineering company for CAD, using a 5GHz i7 2700K, it smashed the heck out of their existing typical expensive Dell XEON systems. The same cooler was great for oc'ing GTX 460s, compatible with Quadro 4000 as it has the same hole spacing. Have you ever tested a GTX 580? Want to borrow one? Happy to post one down, I'm just a bit up north.

  • @couriersix2443

The only Quadro card I've ever had any experience with using is the K4000M, which is essentially a downclocked GTX 675MX. Both are based on the 28nm Kepler architecture, share the same shader count and memory bus width, albeit the GTX card has slightly faster memory bandwidth overall. With the only other difference being that the K4000M has 4GB of VRAM, while the 675MX typically sports 2GB with an occasional 4GB variant in certain laptops. They're not particularly anything special, with performance basically being the same as the desktop GT 1030 (GDDR5), but at the time they were both considered fairly capable cards for being mobile GPUs. Mine in particular is part of a Dell Precision M6700, and I've successfully unlocked the VBIOS in order to overclock it with Afterburner (+200 core, +300 mem) so that certainly helps it out a bit. But my oldest son uses that laptop nowadays to play not-so-demanding titles like Roblox and Minecraft. I've also played games like Fallout NV and the original Dead Space on it, and it handles both at 1080p 60fps. Really any game from 2012-13 and older can run on it decently enough.

Back in the day.... i actually ended up with 3 Quadro K4000 cards there 3gb variant.. i had an investor that invested in me to build 12 cpu based bit miners back in 2014... these cards were so expensive... but yea he messed up thinking oo.. more money for the card must mean they can mine.. yea he was so wrong when he brought em over to me i was like STEVE..... these are workstation cards,, lol he didnt know the difference .. anyhow long story short i still have the 3 K400 cards lol.. a week later after he spent all that money ASIC antminers came out, i told him to buy 150 of the usb antminers and 5, 43 port usb hubs/... we made the money back but still.. funny story

That would probably be a good card for a retro gaming pc. Half Life 2 and older.

@@AncientED5 60fps 1080p buttery smooth. Still a good card for only being around 30usd I know it played 7 days to die 1080p medium well and I'd compare it to a GTX 960 2gb overall

The last time I got my eyes trashed like this was when I was welding without my mask. Didn't come out of that looking pretty. But its safe to say the card completely pooped itself.

you should compare that card with the GT 1010 ( GDDR5 ) / GT 645 / GTX 460 SE / GTX 555 OEM / GTX 560 SE if you can afford

So why not original Dead Space or Crysis instead of remasters? Also something like DIRT Rally, Batman Arkham City, Far Cry 3 to 5, Assassins Creed 4, Rise of Tomb Raider etc.
