    P K north korea wont ever initiate a war or nuke any country without being provoked... they just keep making their nukes better and better to get a place in the global say...to not go according to usa's rules...to get rid of all the sanctions which are placed by nato and usa...to not get thrown overnight by US and their allies or by the US backed rebels just like what syria and iraq failed to do and paid the price of getting their country fcuked up for centuries...

  • @calebwheeler3891

    @calebwheeler3891

    NK being absorbed by the south would be really bad. SK does not want NK. They have a prosperous economy, a decent technology sector, and awesome manufacturing. If that were to happen, South Korea's economy would be destroyed y having to care for an undeveloped war-torn country. Not to mention, the North Koreans would feel oppressed because they will have too be constantly monitored by SK to ensure that dissenters from the Kim regime are not promoting insurgence. NK would have to take menial jobs in manufacturing and labor in order to access resources, and there would be class division between the South and the North, which brings more feelings of oppression. SK would have to be very strategic about incorporating NK in their education and economic system.

    It's also worth noting that North Korea fancies themselves arms dealers. It's quite possible that they would be willing to transfer technology or materials to other countries. For all of N.K.'s issues, they are a relatively stable regime, at least in so far as there is a dynastic transfer of power that has been conducted. They are hemmed in by very powerful neighbors. There are other parts of the world that are less stable but just as interested in nuclear technology. In a M.A.D. world the risk of some nut getting ahold of nukes during a civil war is probably a more realistic way for nuclear war to break out.

    The US themselves were the ones who blocked SK and Japanese nuclear development because they feared that the world was becoming increasingly unstable with the introduction of nuclear powers. In reality, South Korea has great potential of building nuclear weapons, perhaps even more so that the North, that is struggling constantly to find the scientific knowledge and resources to build such a destructive weapon. The US made an agreement with SK and promised them to defend them in the event of a nuclear attack. To date, the two countries are conditional allies. However, the abolishment of this pact could lead to a cascade of nuclear detonations all around Asia, and eventually the world, leading to international tension even greater than those felt during the Cold War, and the possibility of mass destruction of the planet. In simpler terms, it is not the US that is doing SK a favor, but rather the opposite by not creating these weapons of mass destruction. It is incomprehensible to me that you or anyone else could suggest such a blatantly stupid idea that could-no- would induce a nuclear world war. Sorry, but I don't think I'm ready for mass destruction.

    Everyone is getting worried, but I really don't think NK will do anything. This is why: The land that North Korea is sitting on is very valuable in terms of natural resources. Due to their ineptitude to create means of getting those resources, it still remains largely untapped and valuable. China knows this and they enjoy having control over NK because they don't want another super power in Asia. Nobody thinks that NK would be able to create means to benefit from the trillions of dollars worth of resources, but if the peninsula is reunified, South Korea and America could benefit greatly from it. If the Korean peninsula becomes reunified, that's a huge loss for China and an obviously huge gain for South Korea and America. You could argue that maybe a reunified peninsula would align politically with the North, but that seems highly unlikely. Anyways, this loss for China would be a hit to their economy and more importantly, their ego. Having more American influence in Asia is something China very much does not want. They are perfectly content with with leaving NK as it is, basically a buffer zone between them and the US. Why doesn't China want to be close to the US? Because China is now #1 in the world and they want to keep that standing. America doesn't like that and they want to be at the top, which is why we are hearing more about NK in the news recently. Trump really doesn't like America not being the best and he will do what he believes is best to "make America great again." This is a very dangerous mindset to have because once your ego gets too big, something bad could happen. The information gets spread to the people that NK is going to harm us, so people get behind the idea that we should destroy them before they destroy us. Nobody seems to realize that if North Korea does anything at all to the US, South Korea or Japan, they would be wiped off the map with the retaliation they would face. Kim Jong Un is not that stupid to put his country at risk. He wants the power and he knows if he messes with the US, he does not have the army or resources to compete with them. This fact alone should be very obvious to everyone, but I'm not sure it is. That being said, if the US was truly smart, they wouldn't touch NK because that will only anger China, which just so happens to be where America gets all it's stuff from. Restricting trade in any way with China would severely hurt the American economy. America relies heavily on the cheap production of goods coming from China. In the end, nobody is really answering WHY North Korea wants to bomb the US so badly. Because they really hate America? No, that's not a good enough reason. There really isn't a good enough reason for North Korea to bomb the US to justify ruining their own country, which would happen. China wouldn't want NK to do anything because that severely hurts their standing as a world power because it causes a huge divide between them and the rest of the world. The US doesn't want to do anything to NK because that hurts their relations with their biggest trading partner. So basically the current stalemate is the best political move for the US, China, South Korea and Japan. The suffering of the North Korean people is the horrible thing here. I wish things weren't so political so that they could be helped, but right now touching North Korea is too risky for the rest of the world.

    A suggestion for Vox and other news and media outlets covering this: The map of the missile range would be much more clear and easy to follow if you used the Equidistant Azimuthal projection, centered on North Korea. As the name would imply, the Azimuthal Equidistant maps out the earth according to each point's distance away from in this case N Korea, meaning it's practically made for the purpose of missile range maps! This been a PSA. Carry on.

    +MrTegu The US and the Western nations have been threatening North Korea for far longer than it has ever itself. Not to mention the 7,000 nukes the US possesses, which it is unwilling to disarm itself of.

    just letting you know the nuclear program actually started in 1990 during Kim Il Sung's reign using plutonium Kim Jong Il used uranium as a secondary option since the initial agreements with President Carter before Kim Il Sung died stated that north korea was to halt production of weapons grade plutonium. However the agreement didn't include using weapons grade Uranium as an alternative.

    My personal opinion is that the US is still not threatened and will not be threatened for years. Although after the Cold War our missile defense system has declined, we are still more than prepared to intercept missiles especially coming from thousands of miles away. Our coasts are protected by various GBI's and our radar and detection systems are quite capable of detecting an incoming missile. That does not include the possibility of any submarines or naval based anti-missile tech that we do not know of. With all that being said, I'd like to point out that I am not saying we should not be cautious. North Korea has been pushing its limits for too many years now and I believe that reprimanding from the UN is doing absolutely nothing to stop this. I believe significantly stricter military moves should be made by world powers to put that third world shithole in its place.

    the only way to destroy a nuclear ICBM without backlash from the nuclear substance with in is to destroy in before it comes down from the atmosphere or just as it launches.good luck hitting a missile which is like a needle in the sky and will most likely be joined with others.missiles are like wolves,they come in packs

    While there is always the possibility of hidden tech, the current systems are not able to stop an ICBM after it has launched. It is unlikely that better systems exist since their value is in the perception of defense more than their actual ability, and the US played up how effective its shields were for many years because of this. Whatever the public story is regarding how well we can stop ICBMs, it is safe to assume the actual capabilities are less, not greater.

    The US definitely does not have a reliable way to intercept missiles.

    Blood Fire Drake Hence our progress on the THAAD defense systems. Given North Korea's relatively early nuclear system, I doubt we'd see missiles in packs as stated. Of course, I still believe it will be years before North Korea can develop a fully function nuclear warhead capable of at least posing a true threat to the US mainland. However, like I said in the main comment, I really want to emphasize that this does not mean we should sit idly by as this occurs. North Korea, should have been swiftly shut down at the earliest signs of rebellion. Instead, we now have some puny country threatening world powers. It's almost shameful..
