Ok…, this might be a early call but here’s what I think is going on. The missing inkling in question decided to stay in overtime, possibly an indication that they’re a frequent Egg Collector, enough to be trusted with her group to work overtime before her disappearance. Since I’m assuming we’re following Game Logic here, When she worked overtime, the crew had an encounter with Cohozuna, the only King Samonid boss in the game so far. In the game, you can encounter him by working enough shifts within a time frame. But considering how confidential Grizzco is right now, I’m assuming this was their first encounter with the massive salmonid. In order to make sure no other workers “go missing” Grizzco temporarily shuts down their egg runners business, even going as far to shutdown their Inkopolis outlet and relocate to Splatsvile in order to cover up the death of the inkling. And while the disappearance is uncovered, Grizzco isn’t held responsible. So why go to such extreme lengths to cover up this incident, even going as far as a temporary shut down?! Well, I think it’s because if word gets out about Cohozuna and other King Salmonids, not only could it deter the inklings/Octolinga from working at Grizzco as egg runners, (a business that’s crucial to Grizzco) but they could get slammed with a Lawsuit for their negligence and extreme workplace conditions, potentially even shutting down the company’s operations in inkling/octoling areas I think this tape(s) are the company records of the incident, as well as the truth behind the “Salmon Runs”, the salmons are getting angry with Grizzco’s involvement, and their starting to retaliate to the point where someone got killed. TLDR: Fishies get even angrier, Squid kid dies, & Bear company tries to cover up the whole incident to avoid being chased out of town…

Yeah, I find it interesting that for once. Theres a salmonid thats actively hunting other inklings. Unlike maws who just attacks nearest Squid. I forget the in-game dialouge but Cohozuna is hunting octos/squids who keep returning.

I like this specific detail in the “Missing Poster”: Native Ink Color. I suppose that could be a real thing in the Splatoon world where yes inklings can change color, but they were born with a specific color. Very neat world building.

I think it works as well! Reminds me of how the Splatoon idols would change their ink colors for splatfests, and afterwards go back to their ‘default’ ink colors

My theory: the fact that this likely takes place in the timeframe of splatoon 2, when it says "T H E R E I S S O M E T I N G I N T H E W A T E R" makes me think that kaia probably ran into chohozuna right after everyone else had left, and went missing when she got splatted and there was no one else to revive her, grizzco panicked and relocated to splatsville, and tried to sweep this all under the rug.

My theory is that Kaia got splatted by falling into the water during overtime. Normally Grizzco revives you in between rounds, but with no one else being around I can see them just…letting her stay splatted to cut costs. She’s in the life ring, she’ll be fine right? Wrong. Her life ring falls in the water again and again, pushed into it again and again by the Salmonids spawned by the Chinooks. Until eventually, she runs out of ink. And she falls in the water one last time. There’s something in the water. Or rather, there’s someone in the water. Of course, Grizzco can’t let this get out. If people found out they were willing to not revive employees to save money, to cut costs, their buisness would be in hot water. So there is no employee registry. There is no disappearance. No matter how many times I watch this video, there’s one line that gives me chills every time: “She would’ve turned 15.” Kaia was a child. A fucking child. Thats part of what majes this analog horror so intriguing yet scary to me.

this is like a soft creepypasta, if that makes sense- like youve got some sus dark shit going on- sure someone's missing, then you find out its a teenager. you've got the missing poster with details like 'native ink color' (no clue why that stuck with me) and in a VHS style (which I often dislike, but with the concept of the police being involved, is fitting somehow) you don't create loud obnoxious jumpscares (there was one scare but it was tame) and give lore, its not just made to be weird, its made to get into your head and question your morals and views, and ask "what if this were me/someone close to me?" you've got the interview which is tame and has static and some pretty convincing dialogue, and then the discomfort of realizing the call was monitored and 'youll hear from us soon.' this was excellent, and I'm excited to see more!!

Imagine she's in her life ring at one of the (temporarily) abandoned "stages", and just assumed dead. Left to dry out, for five long years, all alone except for the common salmonoids.

I really like the moments of nothing but just odd droning, lets you think about all the info you just got

Please make more, this shit is great. It's a joy seeing so many people create more around splatoon, with fanmade big run announcements and cute animations full of character everywhere. What a time to be a splatoon fan.

Splatoon went from a kid friendly active player ink-shooting game to a goddamn creepypasta because of this 💀😭

Spoilers for the video below OH MY GOSH FINALLY! SPLAT-NALOG HORROR! The way the delivery of everything was so cold or distressing really took me back to the days of Eventide Media Center. I was hyped and smiling through a lot of it, but at the 3 minute mark, where it says just how much of her whereabouts are a mystery, how no one knows where she was, I was on the edge of my seat! And just the simple "She could be dead." made my body go cold, I just froze in my tracks and stared at the screen for what was next. The way the unidentified fluid churns and pulsates, I'm hypothesizing this will tie in with Rise of the Mammalians with the fuzzy ooze, I've tinkered with a horror concept or two with it as well. The straightforwardness of the story was a bold move which payed off I think, Giving a bit more context gives the viewers the ability to focus on other details and get enraptured more easily. You still have enough little questions popping up to get people to dig deeper. I know most of the inklings are portrayed as being in their young-to-mid teens through the games, but still the fact she disappeared so young was sort of heartbreaking, the detail of it happening right before her birthday just made it hurt a little more TL;DR: I love your delivery, story, and the sprinkling of worldbuilding. Please keep it up!

"Our employee seems to have traded insider information and will be disposed of immediately." ..Disposed of? "Terminated" could mean being fired, but disposed of? Seems Grizzco isn't just okay with covering up deaths, but causing them as well, so long as it's beneficial.

This is so cool! I think Kaia's fate isn't as simple as she was killed. My theory is she was accidentally abducted by the salmonids (via mothership or something) and now she's trapped in wherever the salmonids live. Great video! Keep up the good work!

ayyy, someone made a splatoon analogue horror finally! This is well made, nice job! I do recommend however following the show don't tell rule more, because a lot of the information could be presented in creative ways like the water and the phone call.

Kaia is actually an employee at Wahoo World right now, (she's the one in the Fresh Fish costume) which partially explains why WW is the first Big Run map we see in Splatoon 3.
