This is the best demo of these guitars out there! You sold me on the Streamliner one!!! :)

I quite like the contemporary look of that particular line of Streamliners. It's those inlays, knobs and colours (Gunmetal & Stirling Green) that won me over.

Cool video and excellent playing, but the only way to nail a true comparison would be to use the same amp and setting with both guitars.

For sure Streamliner model sound way better then my Epiphone Les Paul. I bought my first Gretsch, a G2622t.(changed pur the spring to a softer spring onbthe Bigsby. I added all new Gretach knobs & a classic switch Tip, took of the plastic pickup guard ( not running one anymore) also installed new classic gear Grover tuners...looks and feels like Electromatic easily!!. The Broadtrons picks up are as Punk as F! And All my Blues playing sounds , sooo mean on this baby! I love my Gretsch!! Great video guys!!

I'm thinking of buying the G2622t and the only thing I'd do is maybe in the future get a p90 pickup. How good is it stock tho?

This intro is better than the record. I am looking to purchase the Gretsch G5422TG. I have viewed many reviews on you-tube and your review is the best. Really well done gentlemen!! Thank you.

I own this exact guitar (G5422TDG, same color) and it’s true to the Gretsch sound, it’s the best quality/price offer on the market and a gorgeous guitar to own in your collection. Out of all my guitars, it’s the one I use the most outside my 1954 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty.

Hey guys - great review, and hope you are still monitoring/responding to these comments. I really can’t make up my mind on which sounds OVERALL better.. they both have their strengths, which somehow are equal. (Never has this problem before. EVER.) Price IS an issue for me, but I don’t want to make my choice based on price. I actually skipped through your video first, not knowing for certain who was playing what model. And please correct me if I’m wrong, as it could just be playing style, and in NO WAY WHATSOEVER do I want to offend either of you and how you play, as you both are great guitarists. And this may help a lot in my decision- I’m mostly the rhythm guitarist, pianist, and singer in my band. But I do use a lot of riffs, and do play some solos. So this guitar is a great match for me and my rig, etc. As I use a VOXAC30CC2X and a 1962 Marshall Bluesbreaker combo together, and rely on my guitar’s volume pots and 2 volume pedals (one is expression) to control the amount of gain, volume, and “mix”. Anyways, the Streamliner could get much more rich broad tones, while still getting the shimmer, where the Electromatic sounds muddy playing chords, but has that ‘twang’ to it, and is brighter and has more shimmer. That’s where the problem is. The Electromatic would be perfect if it didn’t get muddy on chords. Is that just my ear? Or do you guys hear it too? And is there any way of getting more shimmer and the twang on the Streamliner? Is it just the pickups? Advice please!! Thanks! -patrick Ps. NEVER been about “frills” - HATE GOLD TUNERS etc. But have always wanted the orange stain Gretch color. Checked numerous websites, and can’t figure out if there are mistakes between models or what... but which can you get in orange? Only aesthetic important to me. Thanks!!

I feel streamliner has a brighter sound than Electromatic I really wanna buy one so bad but now I don't know whether should I go for a Streamliner or Electromatic. I thought that, because of the cost the Electro would be "better" but to me I love the sound of Stream... I think, that like everything... It comes out to the sound you're looking fore rather than the price

Thanks for reviewing these side by side it's ALMOST helped me make my mind up. I'm drawn towards the electromatic for it's higher quality but you can't get one without a Bigsby and I don't want a Bigsby as I'd rather have more sustain and not worry about tuning stability. To my ears the Streamliner sounds slightly better, it maintains that Gretsch sound but you can hear the richer base notes a bit better.

I had the same reservations. I bought a G2420 Streamliner without the Bigsby and mounted the Pickups from a G5420 Electromatic. The Gretsch factory pickups were less than $100. I am happy how it turned out.

I got guitar fever past few months ( thanks guys ) got the Eastman AR372 Jazz box -but met a used slim necked simi hollow, loose Gretsch Brooklyn Burst 2622T - will do some P/U change not bad , just to add a little more jangle to it . So to me the streamliner is perfect platform to custom for my taste.

i'm considering getting the streamliner and getting someone to put the filtertrons in it. I'm a bit of a noob so i wanted to ask if that is a terrible idea or sacrilegious in any way? thanks

  • @HickiesMusicStore

Umm its slightly perplexing Jonnie as Gretsch make plenty of models with Filtertrons installed and the pickup sizes would be different to swap them. Out of curiosity what are you looking for? :)

well, yesterday i got myself a g2420 without the trem and centre block, i asked the guy and he said they would have to do some work to fill in some space because the filtertrons are a bit smaller than the broadtrons but because i bought it from a high street shop i get the benefit that all i have to do is buy the pickups and they will install them for free! free servicing for 3 years!!!
