Authoritarians are nasty people when they don't get their own way. In my day if you couldn't get a job you worked down the coal mine. These days you have to get a security job as there's no coal mines. Because security work is so mundane, some security employees think they have a God given right to assert a dominant position and most will get away with it. I think auditors are doing a great service for pointing out the legislation regarding pinac and the right to filming in public.

After watching so many auditors it is obvious that the vast majority of security staff are from foreign parts.By that I don’t mean based on their ethnicity but by their command of English they are here for the first time. That in itself is not a problem but it does beg the question why? Auditors are in a unique position to directly ask this question and find out if by under payment conditions of employment these people are being exploited. Some of the companies have large government contracts so is the government complicit in this? You guys could be in a position to uncover a much larger story than public photography, not least how some of these security personnel are getting an SIA card pass.

The security guard is not fit to engage with the public. Being rude and unprofessional towards members of the public is grounds for dismissal and his SIA badge revoked.

Most Plod believe that it's only the SIA who can investigate breaches of the 2001 Act (and a few I've met think that it's the local council licensing dept - completely wrong). It's actually BOTH the police and SIA who can investigate. Plod tend to get sloping shoulders and fob you off to the SIA though as they don't want the work. The potential fine and jail time referred to tends to be for repeated offences. The usual run is several reports before the SIA even give an informal verbal warning, then a formal verbal warning (as in they'll record they've given it), then written, several of them, some actual action. That's unless there's evidence like video or witnesses to the security staff committing assault on the public photographer or something like that.

Good video of these buildings. Never been to them so this is a good substitute. Pity about the security staff letting them down? Wonder who trains them or if they have been trained? SIA seems to be an easy qualification? 😳😳😳😋😋😋🤭🤭🤭👍

You could produce home-made printed copies of YOUR policy granting you permission to film buildings.

And if you stand in the grey area that appears to be public accessible footpath with no signs are they going to disturb you? Surely that would be causing alarm and distress to a member of the public. Do Lloyds get there security from help the aged?

There’s been rights of way by the Gherkin ever since I can remember. Long before all the new buildings went up. I checked on Openstreetmap, there’s even a circular right of way at the foot of the tower.
