THE GREEN MONSTER RETURNS! Mowing Thick Tall Grass With John Deere Z930M!

Back to mowing! We are out on an overgrown 1 acre lot with some thick tall grass that needs some serious mowing! I brought out the Green Monster for this one; the John Deere Z930M! I love this mower, nothing runs like a Deere!

    Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability kzread.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!

    Just a little tip 😉 drill a hole at the end of the chute deflector some where in the middle and attach a bungycord to it so you can lift it up it helps in tull grass and drop it when you need to.

    When you are in areas where there is good distance to cars and windows, get a strap to hold the deflector up and it will throw the grass farther and disperses it more. That seems to help me quite a lot.

Our subdivision used to be pasture land dips, slants. Were gonna have to put down grass seed from areas that are slanted. Dips. Good thing I learned at an early age. I run a hustler, always been happy with them but if I get the chance I'm going to test one of these out next. Haven't made my mind up what I want to go with. Also I noticed people talking about what to do about the grass discharge and yes I noticed you recut at the start but discharged the grass out of the tall grass. Not sure what you're cutting at but when I come across grass like this, the deck goes all the way up and slow down some, of course I don't have the grass discharge on mine i made my own, but anyways let the blades catch up to the engine. Nice job in the end.

    I honestly wouldn't pay attention to what these others say. When you're cutting a vacant lot in a highly frequented area you gotta protect the borders which, yes, means you have to throw the discharge into the uncut grass. We have a ¼ acre vacant lot next to us I mowed for 5 years. All I have is a Craftsman LT1000 rider. It did the job, and so did I. I found that to protect the borders you throw the discharge into the uncut grass for 3 passes, and one you've got that barrier you take your first pass facing outward as just a quarter pass. You are literally just throwing your discharge back out into the cut grass again so you don't big down. The biggest improvement I made once the lot was tamed was to get Oregon™ Mulching Blades. These are the same design as Gator Blades™ and made out of heavier gauge steel. These things mulch like no tomorrow including branches up to 1¼ inches wide without nicking or filling the blades. Regardless you did an excellent job. Say do I see that you cleaned up that hedge line in the back again? Last I remember it was seriously overgrown.

    Fantastic. I ride a Big Dog 🐶 zero turn. But I noticed for a 30 hour new machine your cut pattern has two elevated lines rather than an even cut. It should be less pronounced than it is surely. Wish I could attach an image of my fields. Thanks for sharing. I also run a mulch system rather than a spray out funnel.

    Grass is too tall, going to fast, too low of a cutting height on first pass, and bogging the mower down due to blowing the cut grass back into the uncut grass forcing the mower to have to work harder and slowing the blade tip speed down, which causes horrible looking results, uncut areas, and the mower isn't built for that type of work...its a lawn mower, not a field mower...once its cut down to height if its mowed weekly it wouldn't be an issue in the future though...but on the first cut, since he's mowing with the deck at desired height on first pass, it'll leave a lot of uncut areas, its normal for all mowers to do that when mowing heavy and tall grass/weeds....but compounded due to reasons above.

    Man you're loading down the motor way to much! You need to cut half that height first, then as it dries out, hit it a bit lower. That motor is going to overheat on you. Try sharping those blades as well. "It no how fast you mow, It's how you mow fast"!!

    It's a lot easier on the mower to throw grass into the 'cut' side.

    To rake it for hay, use an ANTIQUE STEEL WHEEL RAKE. Might upset the neighbors from the noise. Steel wheel rakes are known for being cantankerous and loud. Lol.

    The abuse to your machine and the grass is amazing. I would have either cut it sooner or did it twice.

    This mower wont last long if you keep abusing like this. You never blow grass back into the grass you still gotta cut and open the flap so the deck can clear the grass out.

  • @Pandilla61
    @Pandilla612 жыл бұрын

    I was not impressed with the John Deere Zero Turn. The levels were uneven and you mowed it too close. You also threw cut grass over onto uncut grass making it more difficult for the machine to cut the heavy stuff (evident by hearing the machine bog way down.) Maybe next time on fields like this you could cut a little taller and pull the chute back to allow the grass to be dispersed over a wider range plus going completely around the perimeter so as to allow the grass to blow away from the uncut grass. I didn't mean to sound harsh, just my observations.
