The Greatest Thing That Almost Happened (1978) | Jimmie Walker Debbie Allen

Фильм және анимация

Jimmie didn't get the credit he deserved for being able to play more serious roles like this one. I've seen interviews where he said "JJ" pretty much ruined his chances of getting other parts. He said he's come to grips that he will always be seen as "JJ" no matter what part he plays. Too bad because he's a very talented actor.

He did that to himself! Esther Rolle had told him and producers to stop being so comical all the time and he wouldn't listen . He allowed them to pigeon hole him into one aspect of his character and that's buffonery. Then, when he decided to be serious it was too late. He arrogantly ignored others advice

I had an English teacher who once told me that "The great story isn't the story of a conflict between two men but the conflict of a man within himself." Very few actors played that conflicted man as well as Mr. Jones did.

You now, I never thought about being something that others were, I just simply liked the show just because it had stories that meant something to me and could learn from and the truth is I didn't want to be a doctor and so I was not influenced that way. My life was simple because I was learning and didn't have time to dream about being a doctor or lawyer in this society. It just was not for me and so when people make a big deal out of this I understand it and know that it was someones dream of us, everyone can't be for a broken Dow system that will is set up so that they win all the time even if it is a win win they still when when they were wrong period. This does not mean. I will not be able to encourage others who want this dream, Nevers hater just was being real about who I was and want I could do in the moment.

thank you for posting this lost movie. Loved the proud James Earl Jones playing the token black supervisor who was so afraid of losing his job he treated work like it was more important than life. Lived with a racial scar his whole life. Ostracized by his black friends for being an "uncle tom" working for whitey. Missed his son's whole life because of his job. Happens everywhere. Just ask Sylvester Stallone. Family has to be more important than your job as we see in this movie. Life is precious and our family legacy matters.

I admit I never saw this movie before but looks like a great performance by all. Even though Jimmy was always labeled as JJ and this was filmed toward the end of the Good Times run, he really embraced this serious role well. If James Earl Jones, one of my all time favorite actors didn't fill this role as the father, I would say the late Adolph Cesar would have been a close second.

This reminds me of August Wilson production, Sometimes we watch stuff randomly, the British have Kitchen sink realism and this is an impressive film about life, no one is running around wearing a cape, I love the Debbie Allen character, i ve always looked for her type of love, she loved , she was on a whole other level on her performances

John Amos was tough. His edge came from trying to raise a family in poverty living in Cabrini Green, one of the worst housing projects in the states. He had to be tough so his kids would have a chance. James Earl Jones was a bitter widower who was jealous of his son and shunned him until he was sick. Even though it was the 50s he saw opportunities for his son he never had. He was also very paranoid. He had a good job he was so fearful of losing he worked all the time. He was proud of his accomplishments but you can tell he had some scars that made him act the way he did.
