The Greatest Rolex To Buy - 4 Years With My GMT-Master II Pepsi Watch
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Has the Rolex Pepsi bubble burst? Far from it. In 4 years of ownership, my Rolex GMT Master II reference 16710 has doubled in value. Why is this? How have my perceptions changed over the years? Why is it still part of my watch collection when so many other watches have come and gone?
To fully understand, we have to look at its influential history, world changing innovation, cultural impact, and why it is the greatest GMT pilots luxury watch of all time. Join me in a classic re-review as we take a stroll around the glorious Old City part of Philadelphia and go in depth with the quintessential Pepsi.

Please correct me, if I am wrong, but I think the possibility of setting two different times independently (GMT with 24h hand and local Time with 12h hand) as you described in the beginning of the video, was added later with an advanced movement. The first Rolex GMT of 1954 could only show the same time with both hands, but the pilot could read a different, chosen time zone by adjusting the bezel.
Hahaha that dog at the beginning!
I love the colorful bezels of Rolex GMT Masters. As you said, it is difficult to match the watch with your attire. But... IF I had a Rolex GMT, I would gladly build my closet around my watch!
When I wanted to buy a nice watch in ‘04, I looked at a GMT II; I think it was $4200. I went with a TAG 2000 auto instead. Now my TAG is worth 1/4 what I paid. I hate to think what that Rolex is worth now...

I actually have both a 16710 and a Tag Heuer 2000 classic. They are absolutely comparable in construction quality, apart from prestige or price issues. The newer Rolex models are definitely better, but a lot less charming.

Usually he’s very organized and on point but in this it’s very raw and real, really cool to see a change of pace. Love this channel.
top class as always! i love watching these in the evening wearing my 1603 Datejust. Its really fun to see these amazing watches, and to learn a bit more about the history at the same time. Cheers!

That intro was just as good as Hugo talking to you like you are a peasant! I actually have a friend named Hugo who went to Cambridge and Oxford, so it always cracks me up.
The crazed dog chasing the squirrel alone got my "thumbs up" . . . pure KZread gold . . . can't script that stuff!!
My favorite watch channel. I have to enjoy your offerings as a fine wine. Thank you TGV.
I also have those moments where I just suddenly can’t remember something simple. It reminds me of the classic “his brain is gone” clip from Star Trek. 🙂
I love the history of most videos, so interesting and adds further appreciation for each review. Keep it up.
"Madeleine Moment" - I appreciate this. It's been a few years since I read through MP, and it seems like this may be a good time to revisit him. I've just found your channel in the last week, and I cannot thank you enough for your perspective and your approach to this hobby. Really bringing a lot of lightness and joy to these strange days!
Great video. Nice to see the outtakes kept in 😁
Heyy TGV I found late 1950's or early 1960's Omega ladymatic from my grandmother's closet......can you tell approximately what value would it hold today?
Great video TGV. I like how that guy just gave up on his dog chasing that cat. Lol.
The fun factor of pepsi bezel watches is just massive. It looks great on a jubilee and I love that it has some characterful dinks. Always great to watch your in depth history on a watch. K.S
Which aftermarket jubilee bracelet did you fit to the 16710?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but what is the brand of the aftermarket bracelet on your GMT?
@m0t3ki

aftermarket? the bracelet on his 16710 is the jubilee bracelet. 16710 had both jubilee & oyster bracelets. Edit: ah, i see. its an aftermarket jubilee on his.. LOL my bad. In any case.. there is an original jubilee for 16710..
😂😆 moments later...more moments later lol stay real my friend, love the editing.
Came in because of the jacket, glad I did because that dog scene is priceless.
Great that you included those „outtakes“ in the video. This makes your videos even more entertaining. Thank you for inspiring me to start my own little channel (with which I‘ve finally achieved 1.000 subs. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany
I once owned a G M T Master, the first model, with the Raised plexiglass face, left turning bezel it cost me £100,8 shillings from watches of Switzerland in Bond Street ,after being maintained by Rolex, and that is never cheep, I passed it on to my son, after 20 Years,it still kept very good time, as long as it was fully wound,it had the staked hair spring, to adjust the time you would put it in different positions to gain our lose the odd seconds he had it valued then, £4000, I see it has risen in value quiet a bit since then, I wonder if he has it maintained and insured , I should have brought a tray full, and put them in a bank, sum interest .
9:40 I'm wearing that Steinhart GMT while watching this video 😁
I bought my GMT-Master, not the II, in June of 1991 and it has been with me ever since as my only watch, thanks for the history i enjoyed it greatly, keep the videos coming.

I bought mine in April 1991.... Seemed reasonable price at the time... Now worth a fair bit of money .. Not a bad investment.
Once again, awesome work on this video! You have me lusting for a gmt again.... 😎
12:23 switched around the numbers of the calibers...1385 and 1386 instead of 3185 and 3186 😂😂 But no big deal! Love your stuff! The passion you have for watches and the history of time pieces is always present in each of your videos! Thanks for keeping us entertained!
Great choice, especially for aviators! World timers, with listed cities, are great for desk drivers as well.✈🌐⌚
Those gloves with the watch is awesome. TGV, you always put together awesome visuals m8.
Hi guys. What is the best choice between a 16700 from 1994 and a 16710 from 1996 both on jubile and both tritium. Thanks.
Hi TGV, I too wore my Explorer most of last year. That or my Speedy seems to be all I need as of late. I guess it's just part of our ongoing evolution in watch collecting. Hope you have a great 2020! Best Regards, John
Can a GMT II get magnetized? Mine is running up to 6 seconds slow
Like you always say TGV, putting on a watch you haven't worn in a while is like seeing an old friend😊🇮🇹👍
Hello from Philly! Thanks for making great watch content!
Even though I’ve been extremely happy with my Mark 1 BLNR for the past 3 years I really regret not buying one when they were being sold for $5500-7000. At the time I didn’t want to buy another GMT II instead of a different model altogether. The 16700s (because it doesn’t have quickset hour hand) and 16750s were towards the lower end and both are fantastic references. Even the 1675s were reasonable. I am still on the lookout for a mint condition 16710 or 16750 with papers at a fair price $8500-9000 max regardless if it originally came with a Pepsi or Coke bezel. If I don’t manage to get a brand new 126710 this is what I’ll go for. In the long term these last original GMTs will definitely be very valuable.
What’s the aftermarket jubilee? I’m currently looking for one for my 16710 with the holes case.
I am fortunate to have just acquired an A-series Pepsi 16710. I find that it has more character than the 126710 & the colors are much more vibrant.
The Tudor BB GMT has to be my favourite GMT watch when it comes to watches that are available as new. I love the vintage design and prefer the look of the aluminium bezel and the classic digits on it to the design of the current Rolex GMT Master II. One day! :D Great review of your wonderful GMT! (which would be my favourite "real vintage" piece)
That jacket + turtle neck combo is perfect. Loved the video!
This is epic, it feels like you take the watch for a stroll like a puppy :). True love!
Great vid, love that watch and I was just winding my Steinhart homage when you showed it!! I wear it more than my hulk or sub!! Beautiful!!
What are your thoughts about saphire bezels? How do they match up with the aluminum and ceramic bezels?
Love all your videos. Who makes the jubilee AM bracelet?
I have a Coke 176760 and love it to pieces. I believe it was made in the 2005-2007 range (I bought pre-owned) and it's just about ready for a full service as it's starting to run pretty slow. I love my 16610 as well, but the uniqueness of the GMT-Master II adds something the Sub doesn't have, which makes them a perfect pair. Maybe one day I'll buy a Pepsi to go with it. Great video. The funny thing is I bought the ceramic bezeled version when it first came out and while I liked it, the maxi case didn't work for me, nor did the polished center links. Great watch, but I ended up flipping it and bought the Coke instead. I've been a happy camper ever since. Cheers.
Good Evening TGV. Always good to hear from you and hope all is well. Wristwatch check for today: Casio G-Shock 9052 for work and currently my Citizen AW1150-07E.
Always a pleasure to follow you talking about iconic watches from your collection. Yet, the suspense gets bigger for exciting new releases like the new Seiko Prospex Alpinist line. I hope you get your hands on some interesting entry-level to midrange pieces.

That squirrel! I laughed so much at the beginning. I too love this GMT, TGV. It really does have that charm that you talk about. I just picked up the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical, my first aviation watch (on the topic of aviation watches.) Absolutely loving it!
Good video. I too agree that your version is preferable to the current version. You chose a fantastic backdrop for this episode. I was in that area back in October for the very first time. What a cool neighborhood. It would be interesting to live on that street, even for a short while.
Hey TGV, this is not related to watches but I think A website you would really like for mens wear is *The Rake*, I'm not sure if you've heard of them before. Great Online Retailer.

You can definitely tell he’s a watch guy @16:17. The way he holds the mug in the air, so that his Pepsi doesn’t have contact with the table.
Love it! Mine is still my favourite watch, hands down. Good taste sir, good taste 😎
Good evening tgv I hope that this finds you well;firstly may I just apologise for running a little late for checking in lol, however I can not believe that four years have flown past so rapidly, that being said the piece still looks amazing, secondly the video’s are looking great, keep up the good work my friend, O&U Ryan.
Where did you find your aftermarket jubilee bracelet please?
TGV, the bloke with the dog is half-naked & you're dressed up to climb the Matterhorn. Which one of you is nuts? 😁
And the B-Roll just keeps getting better!
Great review of a fantastic watch! Looks so classy on the Jubilee. It's on my bucket list to own one of these!
Love watching you walk around my hometown. Have you made it to the continental? Awesome Pims Cup. Cheers
Fantastic video, I am fortunate enough to own a GMT master 2, fantastic watch and with the red being faded its just brilliant a true classic Rolex tool. Great video!
Such a beautiful example! One I hope to add one day very soon to my collection 😍
I wonder how many people noticed Londons Liverpool Street train station added in there, great touch 🙏🏻

Had a Tudor BlackBay GMT since November 2018. Absolutely love it. Quality and value. Stablemate is a Tag Heuer Carrera CV2010 from 2008. Sold an Omega Planet Ocean in 2010 to buy my first home. Got an itching to buy another one but maybe with the GMT function. As you say, it's so useful.
Hey TGV, what jacket are you wearing in this video? I am looking for something similar :) Keep up the good work!
A beautiful video paying tribute to this icon ... I'm so glad you wear the heck out of it! There's something about Rolex SS sport models with marks and dings on the case, it somehow makes the watch more attractive. Hard to put my finger on it, but it looks incredible when it shows signs of wear.
Hi TGV,great video as usual ! I own a 16710 ,I'd like to get that jubilee bracelet, where I can find it? Would it works on a no holes case too? Thanks you very much! I also own a Glycine Airman 36 mm Purist..I would point that as a second best GMT
Hello TGV any love left for the cheap low-end watches? homage watches? micro-brands? anyone?
nice one, love when watches go up in value! 😛
Where did you buy an aftermarket jubilee?
Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Sending out my GMT for servicing which is important for these watches. Recommend every five to ten years to maintain its movement.
My grandfather wore a rolex gmt rootbeer two tone nipple dial with the jubilee. I now have that watch and love it to pieces! Its an awesome sign of the times! In the box i have the original receipt and he only paid 2000 for it. Very cool piece of history and an awesome heirloom
I remember my first time in US in 1990, with Pan Am. The black of this Rolex is beautiful, not the same with Steinhart. Great video. Greetings from Italy 👍
One thing I never understood with the 2 tone bezel on gmt's. Why is 6 to 18 day/night and not 0 to 12 am/pm? Is it just aesthetics?
@pacovl46
4 жыл бұрын
6pm to 6am represent the nighttime hours (blue) and 6am to 6pm daytime hours (red). Obviously they’re only approximates, but it gives you a visual representation wether the GMT hand is in the day or nighttime hours.
@davidhartley2926

@@pacovl46 yeah I understand that, but daylight is a moving target, depending on where in the world you are and what time of year it is etc. AM/PM is fixed, if these were developed as tool watches then surely that would have been the more logical choice? Suppose it doesn't really matter with a 24hr bezel anyway, just looks more attractive I suppose.
Agree 100% about the ceramics. They are nice for a time, then you tire of them. The old five digits are classic.
Great video! I love the Pepsi. And you're right about the architecture; it's gorgeous!
I have a GMT Master 16700 ‘black on black’, which I’ve owned since 2012, and I always wore this until I got an Explorer 114270 in 2019, and like you, I’ve found the same thing; I now wear the Explorer all the time. I love them both.
Hi TGV! Great video again, love the watch.. but the prices!! For me a vintage Zodiac GMT Aerospace Greetings from the Netherlands!
Love the choice of music in this video TGV! Could you share some links to the artists? Having family abroad, I’d love to own a GMT some day but would have to look at more affordable alternatives (non homages) for the near future. Any thoughts in the sub $3k category for a smaller wrist?

I have a gmt master that was given to me by my father. It is a black bezel on a jubilee. It is the most comfortable watch I own. It has sentimental value as well and definitely gives the sense of luxury and utility while wearing it.

Absolutely love Rolex GMT's, last summer I bought a Steinhart GMT Ocean One (Pepsi), I enjoy it so much everyday. Loved this video.

Terrific ! The jubilee bracelet the way to go. I prefer and have all black bezel. Nice !
As a Rolex aficionado I watched this video when it first came out. Now I'm awaiting the delivery of my very own neo-vintage GMT Master II, so I am watching this video again. LOL!
2007 GMT master II coke. Slightly more subdued, and better tasting. Love it! Learned to scuba in GTMO bay with it.
Great video as usual!! Keep them coming! I just bought a '89 submariner ref 16610 with tritium that developed a really good patina for just 6.8k, I'm reaaally happy about it. Best part, It was stored in a safe and the guy never wore it. I took it to Rolex, they serviced it and now is my favorite watch of my collection. I love the Swiss T However I agree with you and I'm looking for a root beer 16753 for my next buy :-) Great channel, and I use the watchbox app I have all my watches there!
