War is actually to help ease the suffering of the purposeless. Check the works of Max Weber before you make the remarks as if War is unhealthy and just out of sheer greed. The War helped reduce crime as people felt closer to each other. It rid the enmities for each other because it made people think more humanely at home. Acts of bravery are not just on the front lines. During peace times, crimes go higher and there is purposelessness among the energetic youth of the society. A society that has not seen a major conflict is Japan since 1945. And after so many years they have this Hikimori and high death rate. US and Russia didn't see much peace or had foreign ventures to fight. This is created better unity. Give people a greater suffering so, they will agree to less in peace times. Would you rather people shoot each other at home? Or commit suicide? Or quench there thirst for war by commiting to a greater purpose albeit given by a grumpy oldman?

@@ethanbroom277 That is simply wrong, the last major offensive took place in 1917, the French went on the defensive from June 1917 to July 1918. The Germans entrenched themselves at the well-developed Siegfried-Line to secure the conquered territories. With the victory over the Russian Empire, the Western front was relieved because the German Reich could send more troops westwards. This led to the beginning of the German spring offensive in March 1918 and deep incursions into the British front. Although the German troops had advanced up to 60 kilometers deep on an 80-kilometer-wide front, the offensive had created a large new front arc with high losses that could no longer be compensated for and had not achieved any strategic goals. In order to raise the morale of the troops, the next offensive took place in May, and further attacks in June and July. During the 100-day offensive by the Allies that followed, both sides repeatedly attacked each other. But the fact that German troops only retreated is simply wrong, they lost the areas newly conquered in 1918 by the offensive of the Americans, Canadians, Australians, British and French, but after that almost nothing changed on the front line.

But the nobles did fight, actually in the nobility the casualty rates were far higher then the lower classes. This is because they volunteered in much higher numbers and fought in objectively more dangerous roles. 24 British peers (earls, barons etc.) died in WW1 and thousands of nobles and royals served in all armies Of kaiser Wilhelm's sons: -Kronprinz Wilhelm commanded the 5th army on the Western front -Prinz Eitel Friedrich got badly wounded in France and sfter he recovered fought in the Russian front -Prinz Adalbert served in the Kaiserliche Marine and ended the war as a captain of the light cruiser SMS Dresden by the rank of Fregattenkapitän -Prinz Oskar served as a commander of Grenadierregiment showing an almost suicidal amount of personal bravery, after being wounded he spend much of the war recovering from heart condition but eventually returned to service in the eastern front Of other royals for example: Kronprinz Rupprecht of Bavaria served as the commander of the 6th army Prince Albert, the Duke of York (future king George VI) served as a lietenant in the Royal Navy and saw action in the Battle of Jutland Prinz Heinrich of Prussia commanded the German navy in the Baltic sea. And then a quick list of princes that died in WW1 of the top of my head: -Prince Heinrich of Bavaria -Prince Wilhelm of Schönaich-Carolath -Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel -Prince Maximilian of Hesse-Kassel -Prince Heinrich XLVI of Reuß -Prince Maurice of Battenberg -Prince Wolrad of Waldeck and Pyrmont -Prince Friedrich of Saxe-Meiningen -Prince Ernst of Lippe -Prince Otto of Schönburg-Waldenburg And the list goes on So stop with this narrative that "commoners died while the nobility profitated" for you are disgracing the memory of all those princes and nobles that died right alongside their lower class brothers-in-arms

According to the Prussian way of command he most often defered to the judgment of his command staff (consisting of career officers). He was actually a fairly good commanding officer to have being an easy man to approach and get along with, although he was at times arrogant. His reputation took the largest hit after he got the blame for the disasturous Verdun campaign but he was actually one of the loudest opponets of von Falkenheyn's plan.

Reminds me of a very good Indian history Ashoka was a powerful and skilled king who conquered most of India. One day he decided that it's time to conquer another kingdom. This kingdom was strong and it took Ashoka a lot to win it. But after days of fighting and bloodhsed he finally conquered the kingdom. Just as he was, on the battlefield being relived that the kingdom is finally his, an old woman came to him and asked him one thing "Oh Ashoka ! You have won over the conquered lands, and you have expanded your treasures, there is no one richer than you and no one mighty than you ! Would you with all your power and riches fulfill a wish of mine?" The woman asked Ashoka was feeling proud and hence he agreed to fulfill the wish. The old woman then went away and shortly came back with a soldier's head. "Give me back my son O' great and wise king" Stumped, Ashoka soon realised what she meant. All the violence , bloodhsed and the war he caused for the sake of conquering and acquiring riches and lands was useless. From that day Ashoka converted to Buddhism and became a non violent person, preaching peace and happiness. This is a famous story which depicts the King Ashoka's turning point in life after winning the Kalinga war (obviously the story has been romanticised but it's on the same lines)
