It really lifted my heart to see so many young women (and a few older ladies of my vintage) excelling at what used to be a male dominated musical genre. I'd travel a lot of miles to see talent this good. Thank you for posting.

yes! used to be a time (for a very long time), I was the only instrumentalist (banjo) among the guys. That went on for years.... it was great to be in on the beginnings of young gals coming into the scene. I don't play so much now, but still keep up those close harmonies - makes life beautiful when you do that!

Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull are far and away my favourites. As a guitarist myself, I can't imagine how they come out with the sounds that they do.

Molly Tuttle is fast becoming the next Alison krauss with her new band golden highway and her willingness to collaborate with anyone that love beautiful music, her crooked tree album is probably the album of the year and well deserved she's so self-confident now and put yourself out there with no hesitation not the shy little girl she was

Toni Lindgren is an incredible all round guitarist & musician, not only flat picking, she can play any stringed instrument exceptionally as well as harmonica and has an amazing voice. Covers of the likes of Sweet Dreams Are Made of This & ELO as well as Beatles, Fleetwood Mac & Chuck Berry showcase her range of talent, not to mention all the original material made with Elle

Molly Mason definitely belongs in this group. Thumbs up for those that were featured, especially Molly Tuttle, who can also 'dig a hole' in a banjo with the best of them. Sierra Hull picks a mean guitar, but you really ought to hear Sierra pick her primary instrument, the mandolin.

I was thinking they could stop with Molly Tuttle, but, then I watched the rest of them. We have some damn fine flatpicking females making music. I never knew Sierra Hull picked guitar. I saw her many years ago and she was a mandolin whiz. Alison Brown too. I've only ever seen her play the banjo. I mean REALLY play the banjo

Courtney Hartman would also make my list, followed by two other Colorado guitar players who are up and coming, the Cody sisters, Maddie and Megan. The best thing about living in Colorado is attending RockyGrass Academy and getting to watch and play with these fabulous players and genuinely nice people.

All talented musicians in my opinion! I was really happy to see Abby Hartley in this video, I've always thought she was an exceptional guitar player! It's one thing to have really good chops and timing and the ability to nail a really tight break, but somehow Abby is able to add a "tone" and "feeling" into the mix that just seems to grab my ear every time I hear it. I've been playing for almost 20 years and I'm still to this day in pursuit of that kind of sound lol! She's definitely one of those players with that "extra something"!

I know this is old news to alot of people lol, but it drives me nuts when the banjo player steps all over the guitar break. Anybody that's played in a bluegrass band or just sat in a jam session knows this is a common issue, even the loudest of flat tops can't hold a candle to a banjo in terms of volume. A good banjo player knows when to dial it back some, especially for the guitar. I'm not calling anybody out specifically and I definitely don't mean any disrespect to anyone, it's just confusing to me when I see this type of thing happen with higher level players. But on the other hand...as I guitar player maybe I'm just biased lol! All these ladies are awesome by the way!

playing that fast takes a LOT of concentration to keep it together, while also being aware of other instruments around you (group dynamics). Its a team sport, too. You'd know it if you'd ever tried it! I see a lot of young guys looking serious too, every now and again there's a brilliant smile shows through - BUT only for a moment! then back to concentrating again. i see what you are saying though, a few more smiles here and there would be great....
