    I have tithed all my life. I taught my husband of 30 years how to tithe. I have not worked in nearly 30 years and I don't miss a beat on giving God tithes as if I were making six figures. I LOVE TO TITHE!! I have a million testimonies on God's blessing when you are obedient to this gift of tithe. Yes, it is a gift! God will bless you so abundantly, in ways you never could imagine. When you are obedient to the tithe, God will give you more to tithe with! I am a living witness! Start by giving ten percent of your gross and learning to live off the remaining 90%. Sit back and watch God show out in your life! Blessings to all reading and applying this. Amen

    Michelle Cadiz My friend, If you give generously then you will be blessed by God for being that kind (see 2 Cor. 9:6- “he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully”). It is not because of your tithe that God has given you back the increase and blessed you, it is because of your love and generosity. You see, if the churches today will practice tithing, we will be disqualified from the principles and practicality of the commandment. What we give to the church that we deemed as tithes are not the increase of the land from where the people in the Bible got their tithes from. We took it from our salary. Our salary is not the increase of the seed (or crop) that the land brought forth every year (see Deut. 14:22). Salary in Bible is called wage(s), and nowhere in the Bible that believers are commanded to give tithe from their wages. I will not discuss further the practice of tithing in the Old Testament. I will rather explain why tithing in the churches today is a violation of the precepts of giving in 2 Cor. 9:6-8. A tithe literally means a tenth portion of a whole (or 10%). If we give lesser than 10% it is definitely not a tithe; and neither it is if we give more. A tithe is a tithe (10%) in its definition, and it is what it is; hence I said that it violates the principles of giving in 2 Cor. 9:6-8. The apostle Paul writes- “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver”(v.7). So if we practice tithing then we will be violating the pretext of giving as we “PURPOSETH IN OUR HEARTS”. Why? Because if a believer wants to give more than he ought to tithe then it’s a violation of the tithing rule. It’s not 10% anymore if you give more than you ought to tithe, nor it is tithing when you are giving less. In context, tithing only limits the giver of his ability and generosity to give. The giver cannot give more than 10% if he wishes. Whereas, if he follows the giving principles of 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, he can even give 20% or more, or whatever he wishes to give from his abundance. You see now why tithing cannot be practiced in the church today? Because it violates the giving principles of 2 Cor. 9:6-8, which is giving according to what our hearts desire.

    According to Deuteronomy 26:12 it clearly says that tithe is for widows, orphans, levites and strangers so that they may eat. Who are levites? In new testament we all are priests through the blood of Christ says Revelation 1:5-6, so which is above levites. So if only one person claims the whole tithe alone and claims the priest alone who owns the tithes while all these people mentioned above go hungry, according to Christ in Matthew 25:31-46 it is a hell fire offence, spoken by Christ.

    "We r under the new covenant." You mean this new covenant? For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. (Heb 8:8-12) Sorry, that hasn't happened yet. Not until after the Messiah returns. And it is not made with the world, contrary to what people say. But I agree. You should give offerings (not tithes) to the poor.

Thank you Sir “RIP” Now for the comments: Most were focused on giving money to whoever they believe when the video Specifically said 1) God owns 100% 2) God don’t need/want your money Either the revelation went over our heads or we just too religious. If you believe that God wants you tithe 10% to the church or the community do so (10% of EVERYTHING). If you are among those that believe freely received freely give do that whether in the church or community (freely in EVERYTHING). I encourage us to really watch this video with an open mind. Many of us lack the 6 things listed. Are we good Managers? Am I Accountable, Discipline, Honest, Diligent, Faithful, Trustworthy with anything God gives me. Just a quick overview, tithing was for the Nation of Israel. Tithes were crops and animals, not money or time. It's very unfortunate that modern-day preachers have hijacked the word of God to satisfy their greed. Giving is for the Christian. Tithing and giving are not the same. Tithing was mandatory for Israel. Giving is voluntary for the Christian. Please take the time and do study on tithing and it will be very clear. Read every verse on tithing. Context is key.     What's the real definition of tithing? When the Israelites left Egypt, they left with Egypt’s wealth and yet the law specifically wanted tithes only from that which grew from the ground including herd and flocks without mentioning silver, gold, or shekels. Notice that Leviticus never said who to give the tithe to. This is because the Israelites had no permanent land on which to settle or to raise cattle. Based on the instructions in Leviticus, the tithe consisted of a tenth of the agricultural products from the land and the tenth clean animal from the herds and flocks. If a farmer in Israel had no increase, he did not tithe from the herds or flocks because it had to be the tenth animal that passed under the Shepherd’s rod. The ninth, eighth, or seventh animal and so on could not be tithed because the tenth animal was identified as the official tithe God wanted, not 10 percent of the herds or flocks. So when people say “whether” in the text is inclusive of money, it is false because the original language did not indicate a Hebrew word for money as a tithe in Leviticus 27:30-33. When preachers teach or preach on tithing, they argue that the term “whether” is important because they interpret “whether” to include money. Scholars who have done in depth biblical research have always understood the tithe’s origin as food. Leviticus 27:30 says, “Whether the seed of the land or fruit of the tree, it is the Lord’s.” In this context, whether is defined as an extension that includes money. While that sounds good, it is not sound teaching because the word whether is not a part of the original language. So that you don’t get fooled, this technique is called homiletics. Homiletics in Greek is “homiletikos” or “homilos.” It means to assemble, to put many pieces together as in the art and craft of preaching. This is taught in seminary to future pastors and ministers of the church. What Does the Word Tithe Mean? The Revell Bible Dictionary defines the tithe as “The contribution of one-tenth of one’s crops and livestock required in the Old Testament for sacred purposes.”11 Unlike Webster’s Dictionary, this definition specifically addresses the context of Leviticus and does not add an additional meaning by insinuating that Israel paid tithes in kind-that is money. Some people who tithe money mistakenly believe that any amount of money or percentage given to a Church represents a biblical tithe. The problem is, no percentage of money whether from 0 to 100 percent represents a tithe according to what God requires. Halley’s Bible Handbook defines tithe as, “One-tenth of the produce of the land and of the increase of flocks and herds was to be given to God; this is called the tithe.” 12 There is no confusion with this definition because the author, Henry Halley, does not “try to force the text to mean something that fits his existing belief or understanding of a particular issue or doctrine.” 13 The two definitions properly define the tithe by pulling out of the text the context of what is there instead of reading or forcing into the text what is clearly not stated in the Scripture. There is no superimposing a pre-existing theological bent onto the text, but if one does, that would be applying an interpretation process called eisegesis. That means, interpreting the text in ways that conform to a predisposed theological bent by imposing one’s ideas onto the text and explaining it in a different way from what the original writer intended. However, Halley also argues that tithing one-tenth of all income is God’s command for Christians based on the book of Malachi. Halley correctly defines the tithe of Leviticus;

    Lauryn Nakitare My friend, If you give generously then you will be blessed by God for being that kind (see 2 Cor.

    I know someone who has given 10% of every dime she's made/been given. She has 6 kids and over her lifetime has given thousands of dollars and is now struggling to pay the bills n get by right now. Does the church help pay her bills or give her any comfort that is not spiritual? Nope!! She couldn't use birth control, couldn't use condoms, couldn't pull out and when her father offered to get her out of a huge debt, she was going to tithe the money and her father said no and kept his money.. She is poor n struggling but the church doesn't care.. She's given everything to them and all she gets is spiritual comfort? What real god would want that for someone so dedicated? Tithing does nothing for you or god, it just keeps the church rich and powerful. Tithing is a scam!!!

But we pay good $$$ for a "preacher" to come preach and ask for more money at our churches. I also know of single mothers who have gone through similar experiences to what you wrote, truly heartbreaking. Even the Catholic church help more than the Christian churches! Did the church even give her money to find a place or even stay at a hotel? I think not... How sad

I have not turned aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them. 14I have not eaten any of the sacred portion while I was in mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor have I offered any of it to the dead. In Hebrews 8:13 it reads that the first covenant decays and vanished away. Last time I read The Mist High does not CHANGE. He also told Moses that no man may see his face and LIVE. Exodus 33:20-23. Does the Heavenly Father now LIE, and CHANGE His Mind in the so-called NT?

    Give in secret and God will multiply w.e. you give more than you'll ever expect. I am a witness I am a believer that the reason why I am blessed and have more than I deserve has been because of 1. Being faithful to the Lord and 2. Because of giving. Giving can be to a church, the poor, or giving to a foundation, business, charity w.e. is placed on your heart and giving is not only financial it can be offering personal time, your skills/talents, words of encouragement anything that is profitable to others without asking for anything back in return. That's where the true blessing of giving comes when you dont ask for anything back in return.

    After attending Hillsong Church and Carl Lentz services @ NY several times, I observed, and really admire the way he ask (and convinced) parishioners for tithing, and the way people in their beautiful hearts and faith, willingly and humbly give their money "to their church" (a church with a net worth of $97 millions) because he (Pastor Lentz, acting on God behalf) instructed them to do so.. Or, face the consequences for not doing so, "No blessings" .. Its God command.. Really ? Today, reading a Vanity Fair magazine flash on my cell, I see that he has sold his Montclair, NJ home for $1.5 million. It would nice to know, if he gave his tithe to his church, and is as generous as they want us to be..

    Religious preaching at its best.. We are Permanently in unmerited, undeserved, unearned favour through God's one and only son JESUS. It's always been about JESUS. Tithing is an old testament law requirement only for the JEWS. You can't twist God's arm for favour, he loves us through believing in his son JESUS. My God shall supply all my Need in Christ jesus. We give from a generous cheerful heart ♥ Its Sad preachers mix law with grace. Our favour isn't activated by what we do or don't do.. It's activated God's spirit via Jesus. ALL promises are yes and amen in Christ jesus.

  • @khatack

    Grace isn't an excuse not to follow the law though, it's more of a second chance to do so. And a third, and a fourth, and a fifth and... well, you get the point. God's laws are not arbitrary, that is what you should understand, they're more about their causal connection to your own earthly well being. Jesus came here to deliver us from sin through FORGIVENESS, not PERMISSION TO SIN. And yes, our favor really is activated and deactivated with what we do. If you cut off your own leg then you no longer have that leg, God isn't going to give you a new one before his Kingdom comes and we all get new bodies according to the Bible. It doesn't matter if cutting off your leg is metaphorical or literal, Grace doesn't give you a new leg. Paying tithes to God's purposes is GOOD, and therefore you should do it as a Christian. It's not an arbitrary law, it serves a purpose, just like every other law in the Bible. God, when talking to us, is first and foremost, a teacher. You should listen to him instead of making up your own reasons to do your own thing, which is the original sin.

    The tithe in the Old Testament was always food and it was always geared around yourself, the poor, the widows, the Levites, the temple priest, and the feast. You were to eat your own tithe in the place the Lord chose to put his name and you were to share with the others. The priest were to take 10% of the 10%, which is 1%, they had to eat it in the temple and none of it was allowed to leave. All the food had to be grown from the ground or the tree or of the flocks and herds of Israel. They could not bring animals or food from outside their country which will help you understand the issue Jesus had with the people at the temple ripping foreigners off who are devout Jews coming to Israel from other nations that knew they had to change the money or food over for the correct tithes and offerings to be accepted for the feast. All the feast required lots of food and turned into big Bible studies for the Jewish people. No one gave 10% of their money and no fisherman gave 10% of their fish for it was not of the ground or of herds. God promised as long as they continue to give 10% of the food grown and raised in Israel then he would continue to bless their crops and herds that they will flourish. This is a amazing study and very eye-opening if you read verses in the context. The mistake we make is using a versus to teach a message instead of teaching the message that is in the verses read. Context context context. Don't just read 1 verse. Read the book and follow the story it gives.

    I was looking for someone to bring this out.. Deuteronomy 14..... Thank you.... If we understand this, then the church will be liberated from limitation. Hint - all giving in material is for welfare or benevolence fellow man. Tithing was a welfare system to take care of the poor, the levitw etc. In the kingdoms of the days of Abraham and before, tithe was a form of tax. But then there is giving... The spirit led giving... Day by day responding to the promptings of the owner (God) who has made you a steward. If you think you own, tithe will always be your ultimate giving. If you know and understand you are a steward, all your giving will always begun from His word.... From 100%. A steward does not determine the measures. He or she remains directed.. Selah and shalom.

    Jesus abolished the works of the law...If you are tithing under the works of the law, you have to keep the whole law, but the scriptures have concluded that no one can be justify by the works of the law...Faith without works has nothing to do with the tithes... The ten commandments and all the laws of the old covenant are without ordinances...If you are under the law of the old covenant, you must do the works of the law that is written in the law... The adulterer and the thief, and the murdered must be stone, according to the ordinances of the law of the ten commandments... Jesus said he who is without sin cast the first stone... Jesus didn't stone the woman according to the ten commandments... Under the works of the law of the ten commandments, Jesus was supposed to cast the first stone... The levitical priesthood had a duty to collect the tithes from the children of Israel, according to the law of the old covenant...God ordained the levitical priesthood to collect tithes, and they were the only ones assigned and who could collect tithes.
