@@EndymionTv I have more respect for Gael than Gwyn honestly the man had been alive since the war with the ancient dragons and managed to outlive everything else in the world he wasn't born with power but acquired it through hardship just as the player does and at the end of world it's Gael who is finally able to find something we've only heard about in the entire series as he assimilated the original dark soul the last remaining lord soul that came from the original fire but the fact that he never did any of it for power but for the blood to help the painter create a new world makes him very unique in the world of dark souls where most npcs are just looking out for themselves hell gwyn started the cycle of linking the flame because he was afraid of the age of dark he did it for himself, the fact that Gael is willing to sacrifice himself so that another world can be created makes him one of the few heroic characters in the souls series.

Favorite fight in Dark Souls is probably Gael. All the cool lore aside, I feel like that fight mastered the fight against the sword wielding enemy by being both challenging and epic but also fair while not relying on artificially difficult through absurd damage numbers or cheap one shots.

Fair enough. I think Cinder because of what it represents. But there are fights that are more mechanically heavy of course. Friede, Gael hell if we go outside the trilogy even bosses like The First Hunter or Sword Saint are better. But nothing hits me like knowing I’m fighting myself & every past version of myself in a fight at the end of an era. Thanks for watching

My only gripe with Gael is that he was introduced too late for me to feel anything for him. I mean, when I first saw that the final boss is the hooded weirdo from the first DLC, I was disappointed. I later grown to love that bossfight and the lore too, but I think it would've been a better planning if we knew Gael from the very beginning of Dark Souls 3, and kind of grown to love him as a wise, helpful grandpa figure. Similar to why Gehrman was good in Bloodborne. It could've worked here too if he was a more impactful character, not only for the lore but in our journey too.

It's very difficult for me to pick one boss fight as my favorite in the entire catalogue of fromsoft bosses so I'm pick one in each game that I've played: Demon's souls - Flamelurker, The most difficult fight in this game a shame it's followed by the dragon god. Dark souls 1 - Manus, I know most people would choose Artorias but honestly manus's lore is just as tragic as Artorias Dark souls 2 - Ivory king, a very unique and enjoyable fight I wish more bosses were like this in ds2 Bloodborne - Gehrman, great ost and a very tragic character Dark souls 3 - Gael, what other way could would you expect Miyazaki to end dark souls but with a berserk reference Sekiro - Demon of hatred, The most unique boss in this game almost feels like a dark souls boss Elden ring- Starscourge Radahn, The most epic and heroic feeling fight fromsoft has ever created, rip Radahn and Leonard

Dancer or Twin Princes. Dancer just feels so alien but at the same time so fitting in Souls3 in addition to the off-beat OST which is a fantastic way to change the difficulty. And I mean, those echoing steps... The breathing when attacking... Twin Princes is the epitome of the lore and the final battle before the end. They actually engage with you in conversation instead of just standing in your way silently, which gives them the human touch and makes you feel for/with them. The SFX for their attacks manage to _just_ hit right. Lorians sword echoing through the room... Lothrics CSS... Lorians standing slam...

But Artorias itself follows the blue print of bosses like King Allant or The Penetrator. I think you overestimate the importance of Artorias in FS boss design decisions. It is an important boss for the community, because it was the first time a boss like that was presented to a large playerbase (DmS being too niche as an exclusivity), and it certainly influenced other developers, no debate; but From Software itself ? Nah, the blueprint was already there.

I spent the last few weeks as I ground out some of Elden Ring's last bosses thinking back to the Soul of Cinder. It represents so much about your experience and how it is shared with the Souls community only to wrap that essence into the lore by cycling back to Gwyn. All those playthroughs, all the lore, everything souls has to offer given back to you in one final encounter that is emotional for no reason than being what it is and means. No long winded diatribe. No cinematic cutscenes to explain. Just you and the consequences of the ages you and so many others are destroying by continuing Gwyn's quest to keep the age of fire. To keep playing. It's simple and it feels like the From team created this boss just for you, personally. Like a big thanks and goodbye all wrapped up in a flaming sword and three lingering piano keys. I don't get the people who were like "Soul of Cinder was lame, too easy" - it's like these people went hollow in real life to not see more in this fight. It might be the best boss fight I'll ever have in a video game.

This is going to sound weird, but my favorite boss of the entire series is Vordt of the Boreal Valley. There's just something about him that just feels truly, uniquely 'Dark Souls'. He's this colossal beast cloaked in a veil of frost with barely any semblance of humanity, yet he's clearly still human, someone who was tortured and tormented into this grotesque form. DS3 was my very first souls game, and Vordt was my first real boss (I know Iundex exists, but he wasn't that impressionable on me during my first run) and just walking to what I thought was going to be the exit of this castle turning out to be a fight with this behemoth of a guard dog was nuts for the little souls noob back then. His cutscene and that shrill cry will always give me chills. I know he's not a difficult boss, and his moveset consists of him running around and bonking anything vaguely resembling a living being, but just his presentation and the lore afterwards wasn't able to be outsone by any other boss in the series. Also his music is absolutely fantastic.

I'll never forget the intense emotions I felt when I fought them for the first time, the moveset being and amalgamation of the character builds, the incredible presentation and the whole second phase is just amazing, it's a perfect conclusion to the Dark Souls series (with the Ringed City being a nice epilogue). The fight is still very enjoyable but what it means for the series (and to me) is what makes it truly special, every time I beat DS3 after replaying the previous games again I feel kinda empty as I listen to the remix of Gwyn's theme slowly fade away, even if I know that I'll still come back to do the same thing again and again because I just love these games so much lol

I still think Gael is the best fight in the game. He's the final boss of the series. Like us, he went through everything we saw. The war with the dragon as a slave, the decay of lordran, the building of lothric, all of it. He found the painted world as a home, a place only meant for misfits. He left that same painting to find someone to burn it away, and sought the dark soul, an item we have heard be spoken about throughout the games, for his lady. He went to the end of the world, to the ringed city, to find it. And he found it, after devouring everyone left. In the end, only one person truly noticed him. He was a nobody to the world. It's the same as us. We rise from our grave, defeat the lords of cinder, and travel to the end of the world ourselves. But now, in the pile of ash that was the old world, stand 2 people, 2 nobodies who outlived all others. Past the gods, the lords, and the heroes. 2 nobodies fight, at the end of the world, for the most powerful artifact of the series. That's why I love Gael's fight so much.

Thank you to show me there are more people who understands. Shame I only played Dark Souls 3 (yet), but my favorite was the Soul Of Cinder boss fight too. When I first meet with the Cinder, I immediatly felt what you described to us in the video through the music and the fighting style from the boss, when he uses everything to stop us. But Oceiros, The Consumed King is colse to me too. That boss was the one who literaly made me cry the whole fight until I put an end of he's miserable madness. This game is art.

Cameron Cornish said it best on the Soul of Cinder's battle and music "Three notes... Just three... And everything came flooding back. We left the asylum... Fought through Lordran's broken and twisted world... Struggled against Ornstein & Smough... Found the four great one's souls... Saved Oolacile from Manus and The Abyss... Cried because of Sif... Then found Gwyn as the hollowed and abandoned god... We awoke in Drangleic... Sought out four great souls again... Discovered Vendrick as a hollowed and broken king... Sought out the crowns of three kings from different ages... Received Vendrick's blessing to break free of the curse... Fought Nashandra for the throne... Then left the kiln with Aldia to find a cure... We were born again in Lothric... Hunted down and returned four great souls that linked the fire from their ages to their thrones... We were sent to the kiln of the first flame... We journeyed up a familiar path to an open area... In the distance we saw a flame with a single knight standing guard... We fought this knight only to realize this knight was all of us... Every single player who has ever linked the flame... This knight was a mage, a priest, a spearman, a thief, a warrior, and a pyromancer... A valiant fight that ultimately led to us being the victor...... But In a desperate attempt to stop us, the knight rose once more with flames pouring from every part of its body, bringing back the raging soul of a god from a long forgotten age... The three notes played... And... We were broken... We wanted to stop fighting... We no longer wanted to link the flame, kill this knight, be the chosen undead, the bearer or the curse, or the ashen one... We just wanted someone to sit by the fire with us... And for the first time ever, we felt someone who understood our pain really could join us by the bonfire.... Ultimately though, the final strike was made and this ancient soul fell for the last time... The husk of a god finally put to an uneasy rest; lost in the annals of history just like his son, his knights, and his kingdom... We went to the bonfire... And our fire keeper stood there smiling... Grasping the flame like an infant, she allowed the fire to soon extinguish... "Darkness will shortly settle... But one day tiny flames will dance across the darkness.... Like embers linked by lords past." Standing beside her, the world fades to black as we see the final shred of light die away... "Ashen one, hearest thou my voice, still?..." Thank you, From Software for letting this series end as gently as the first flame did. We will never forget this immense gift you've given us."

The journey is over, the fire truly fades.. i guess this is way of things but maybe one more try "a foolish ash grabs his Onyx blade and once more tries for deep down he can't move on and accept the guidance of a golden grace"

I loved Soul of Cinder. The final climactic battle at the end of an era, with him pulling the most amazing cinematic moves and switching things up a lot. And that theme actually brought a couple tears to my eyes. I thought to myself that i didn't want this to end, not yet. This has to continue. And yet here i am, it must be done. Though i also derive a lot of satisfaction from beating bosses after several failed attempts and i fought Soul of Cinder right after Gael, beating him in one try. I think this actually made the moment more powerful. The decisive move to end the game, the atmosphere, the experience. It must be put to rest. Because that which is beautiful, is also fleeting. It is a strong contender for best boss fight, but honestly i can't ever decide which is the best one. Especially Dark Souls 3 brings a lot of good ones to the table.

I think the fight that had most impact on me was Gherman. I entered his graveyard of the garden with intention not to wake up. Upon the start of the music, tears started to pour from my eyes and basically the whole fight I was not only fighting Gherman, but also trying to holding back all emotions that came with that tune (I was all but shaking). Once I defeated him I felt sadness and sorrow and when Moon Presence risen up I started to feel anger. I had only 1 vial left for that fight, I couldnt really think clearly and reasoning was not in menu that day, this fight was driven all by my emotions and in that moment (I don't say I didn't feel that before, but this time it was much more amplified), in that aggressive Beasthunter Saif dance of a madman I felt like cursed, insane and out of control like any other hunter I met across my walkthrough and lost it. Ludwig, Father Gascoine, Henryk were one of the most prominent of all and why am I better than them? Why should I not lost it too? I consumed my last vial only to be smacked by Moon Presence to the same amount of health I had before usage and I decided fuck it. Im going all in. Was it luck his attack didnt hit me? Or was it my skill? I can't say. I only remember from that fight, that I knew that there is no time for any thoughts besides one: me or him. So I dashed towards, evaded his attack, used fast attack with Saif transformation then went with heavy attack and then I won. Or did I?

I would like to share my story for this series because of this video. Back in 2021, I was watching some game stuff with my friend when a teaser for Elden Ring appeared. My friend started getting hyped for this, when I asked "What is Elden Ring and why are you excited." This led to him talking about the dark souls series and how he got into it. Couple of months later around November, I bought Dark Souls Remastered and loved it. I remember the days when I grinded the bosses and fought through the game (with the help of my friend at most parts). After finishing it, I felt a great accomplishment afterwards, yet didn't think much on it after beating Gwyn. I started Dark Soul 2 afterwards, and my friend joined me for a bit, but couldn't handle the difference between 1 and 2 style of gameplay. I continued on and beat the game, really liking how it turned out, despite it being referred to as "The worst Souls game". Though even after beating that one, it still felt like something was missing when I ended it. Then I started Dark Souls 3. I loved it a lot from the gameplay, setting, and lore. My friend joined me in helping me a bit with some bosses. While playing the game, Elden Ring came out, and I decided to play it alongside my friend and see how it was. As I was playing Elden Ring and loving it, some itch wouldn't leave me, or more so, feeling. I felt a connection to Dark Souls 3. I had a huge motive to go back to it, even when Elden Ring was at it's best. After beating Elden Ring, I sat there and thought for a while, about how through this whole game, I never once forgot DS3. So I booted it up and kept on my current playthrough, while my friend stuck to Elden Ring. I still remembered how to play and the area I was in. It wasn't until Nameless King that I realized, I missed DS3 and wanted more for what it had. So I kept fighting, and killing bosses, absolutely loving what it brought to the table. After beating almost all the bosses, even the DLC, I came to the final boss, Soul of Cinder, and I was in love. From the arena, to the combat mechanics and strategies, it was amazing, even for being a bit easy. As I was beating it, I felt this rush of accomplishment, that I have almost done it. Then as I cleared his health, he plunged his sword into the ground. I was wondering why he did that, then the song shifted. The soft melody that I had heard once before rang in my head again, the sound of Gwyn's return. I felt this huge rush of emotions, wondering why I was feeling this way, and in the middle of fighting, I started crying. It was hard to feel this way and not many games make me feel this emotional, even a game about combat and dying over and over. I felt joy and sadness at the same time. A joy that I have almost done it and how this boss is the culmination of all players and ourselves, yet sadness for how it is almost over and nothing more to see from this series of Dark Souls. As I swung my sword, chopping down the Soul of Cinder, the thought came to me "It's over, but why does it feel sad." As a sat there in silence, tears from my eyes, I thought of the hardships that I went through, dealing with bs boss mechanics from each game, the difficulty of the games and how many hours and nights I took to get to this point, and what it gave me. I sat at the last bonfire of my first playthrough of the Dark Souls trilogy, knowing how much one game has given to me. To me now, I still cry hearing Gwyn's revived theme. Knowing that a change of song can make my own mind burst to tears in an instant. That is what cemented this game into one my favorite games. I am still going through the souls games. I am currently on my last game, Bloodborne, which was one of the only games that made my buy a console just for it. I am really enjoying it so far with how unique it is like Sekiro. Although all souls games so far gave me a big satisfaction after completing them, nothing has come close to Dark Souls 3. That is why when I beat Bloodborne, I want to go back to Dark Souls 3. Even playing every single Soulsborne game, I still have that feeling. That feeling that makes me want to complete Dark Souls 3, and finally come to the conclusion of what game is my favorite of all time. Thank you so much for reading this comment, I felt that I needed someone to read this. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Great mechanics, epic cutscenes and fantastic voice acting, difficult fight, really cool characters, elemental effects and animations, the way the battle arena changes when it catches fire, and the surprise third phase, not to mention the deep lore of the flame and rot in the painted world that literally mirrors the lore of the entire Dark Souls series and reflects From Software as the painter of that world and new paintings (games) that will come.

The way you described Soul of Cinder lore reminds me of Pokémon Trainer Red. He's suppose to be you in Mount Silver, with a three starters at their highest potential. With other pokemon you would see throughout your adventure. You fight him, on top of that mountain, with no one else but the both of you. A dangerous location, does he beat you? Or vice versa? Nobody knows, but you. You're not just fighting a regular trainer, you are fighting a legend, you. Hence the full title, Legendary Pokémon Trainer Red.

Finding my favourite boss in Dark Souls 3 is like trying to a needle in a haystack when the needle has nearly the identical colour to the hays. Abyss Watchers, Pontiff Sulyvahn, Twin Princes, Nameless King, Soul of Cinder, Sister Friede, Demon Prince, Darkeater Midir and Slave Knight Gael are all contenders for that spot. But ultimately, Soul of Cinder just slightly squeezes into the position of my favourite boss in the game. It's almost perfection. His moveset variety, balanced difficulty, the classic FS flower field arena, visual storytelling, soundtrack and lore just make him so good.

As much as I love the nostalgia trip that it provides letting us fight the embodiment of the "chosen undead" and "gwyn" ... I kinda wish they stuck with the original draft of having Pontiff Sulyvahn being the "Eclipse King" Final Boss. Or maybe have a dynamic final boss shift depending on which ending you want? -Defeat Sulyvahn to link the fire -Help Sulyvahn to snuff out the Soul of Cinder and usher in the Dark Age -Slay them both to become the lord of hollows. Honestly think it would be really cool to have a boss fight _presented_ as two powerful opposing titans fighting **eachother** while you the player are just a nuetral third party scrambling to survive amidst the chaos. Kinda like the Abyss Watchers but on a much grander scale.

The first time we met Gael, he was just this pathetic looking man, eager to help us along the way but of course when we meet him at the end, he’s an absolute monster, the opposite of that old man we met so long ago. The Nameless King was hyped up as Gwynn’s firstborn son, immediately I think that he has to be a badass. Him flying in on a dragon sealed the deal for me. He lived up to the hype. If I have to mention other Soulsborne games. The Super Londo Bros, Manus and Artorias in DS1, Alonne in DS2, Cleric Beast, Gehrman and Ludwig in Bloodborne, Owl (Father) and Glock Saint Isshin in Sekiro, Starscourge Radahn and Mohg in Elden Ring. Soul of cinder to me is of extreme significance to me as he’s a manifestation of something that is fleeting and no longer belongs, not in vain but to make room for a new time. Rekindling and clutching on to the flame prolongs that inevitable process. Even if what comes after is unknowing and dark, it is what comes after not what is or was before that should be embraced

I truly love the SoC boss fight. When the score hits during the second phase, I feel like the whole theme of "letting go" just strikes the player, as if the Soul of Cinder itself is so desperate that it's trying one last shot against you, but it is a fight that you'll eventually win The score is melancholic, you're using so much energy to achieve what many would consider a bad ending, but it's all about letting go (in my opinion of course)

The lore behind each boss is essentially what made me love Dark Souls in the first place, you are pretty much a nobody challenging literal Gods, of course it's going to be hard, slaying demons puts you on par with the Black Knights, which are pretty much one of the toughest enemies in the first game, slaying dragons puts you in the same ballpark as the Gods themselves, the only ones capable of defeating the immortal Dragons, and defeating the actual Gods is a feeling like no other, you are the one above the Gods, the strongest, the most legendary champion in all history, nothing hits harder than your first Dark Souls experience! I was actually surprised when I was struggling in Lothric Wall on DS3 on my first playthrough, being a DS veteran on the first level sounded like a piece of cake, instead I was fighting a battle of attrition with the first level itself, going guerilla style, battling through hordes of enemies or dueling imposing knights, little by little, advancing through the level, barely made it to the end, finished the area fatigued and beaten up, pulled through by the skin of my teeth, only to realize that it was only the beginning, there was so much more to come, the introduction of DS3 was epic for me, and I've played DS1, DS2 and Demon's Souls before it!

Eventually he beat the first phase and when the music changed and phase shifted into the next, he was physically shaking. He got caught by the move with the 5 consecutive swings and he died, he had a big smile, his breathing was shaky but he was really happy. More NPC dialogues and item description stuff warning us about him. Hell, even something as obscure as an NPC saying something like "beware the manifestation of past lords." I'd be more than contented with that. That's what I don't like about SoC. He literally entered the intro cinematic and the next time we saw him, or even knew of him, was at the finale.

5:48 The nameless king has also been hinted at since the first dark souls game. People used to think that the firstborn was actually Solaire lmfao

@@EndymionTv thanks you for creating enjoyable content to watch! Yes, their lore is just so interesting and intriguing, the Abyss generallyis such a cool concept, i wish we could have seen more of that :(. Another thing i love how its a actually a well executed gank battle (rare in souls games😂), and ofc the amazing OST and cutscene on top of that!

Probably gotta be Sir Alonne, the fight isn't to tough, yea he's agile and hits hard, but has a very readable moveset, since it's not a boss fight, it's an honourable duel. Not to mention the fact if you manage to nohit him, you don't kill Sir Alonne, he commits sepukku infront of you. Such a unique and satisfying ending.

My nr1 favorite fight of only Dark Souls games? Sister Friede! 3 phases of absolute nerve-wrecking, fast-paced, blood pumping action. Amazing OST, varied move-set, second phase even throws in another enemy with his own move-set and the third phase even changes up Friede's own move-set a bit.

It took me a lot of time to master this fight, even more time than Gael and Midir because of my brain bugging everytime he shoots that freaking lazer beam and changing the range of the attacks in each fase. I had a lot of fun fighting it.

Fun Fact: we basically got this design for him by accident, because model for soul of cinder comes from cut NPC that was tied with cut eclipse sacrifice mechanic, Bandai even made fountain for SoC when he was still an NPC.

I found SoC fight dry , it didn't had any special element to it other than same as Gideon ( Like in Abyss Watcher fight they have something unique same as in pontiff and dancer ) . Also Malenia was awesome boss with her waterfowl attack giving us tint of skill requirement . But it doesnt mean we cant have different opinion . Btw awesome video

Goddamn, this video made me tear up. Take your like good sir. This was incredible. And I agree, the boss itself not only was an experience, it was an allegory of the franchise, the community, the players, and ending the cycle that tied down the endless possibilities of the devs, haha. If they just kept making dark souls games, they'd probably wouldn't have made other games like sekiro, bloodborne or elden ring.. this is why I think, we came to term that dark souls was ending. even if they kept making games it wouldn't be exactly like the first dark souls game we played, we can't relive our first moments experiencing something.. that's why, this entire game, its a way for us to not only come to terms but accept that the cycle we would've wished to never end, is actually ending but in a not a bad way, it is as you've said. there's light in endless possibilities, and creativity to bring different gaming experiences. while never forgetting dark souls, deep within our memories.

Yes, the Soul of Cinder is one awesome fight. It has every ingredient to be the best boss fight, story-wise, and gameplay. I couldn't forget how my emotion stirred when I first heard the notes of GWYN, and suddenly the Soul of Cinder began to use all the move set of Lord Gwyn. I have enjoyed this Boss Battle so much, I learned his move, his four rotating martial skills... Defeating him for the first time is "elation."

My personal favourite fight in Dark Souls is the Twin Demons, and my favourite from Elden Ring is Mohg. But the greatest is without even a quarter of a smithereen of a doubt Gael. Soul of Cinder is a callback and thats cool, but Gael is something new, and something thats been around since the very beginning. Even besides him being a slave knight who were a legion around before even the Fall of the Dragons, Gael is a fellow undead, like you, and he hasn't transcended or joined a great hive mind like the undead in the Soul of Cinder, he's still just an undead, he hasn't even gone hollow yet. Undead go hollow when they lose hope or fulfill their purpose, and Gael's hope to see a new age has kept him sane for the ENTIRE AGE OF FIRE. In the fight against him, he has been consuming the Pygmies, as the furtive Pygmy is long gone, and the blood of the Dark Soul isn't in one place. When we go to the future, Gael has spent eons just eating humans, and by the time you fight him he's finally eaten the last of them. His plan is to unite the blood of the dark soul within himself, and for you to kill him, with his blood becoming pigment for a new painting. This is why he hollows in phase 2, his purpose was to usher in a new age, and when he sees his blood, he sees the new age. Another detail is that after Gael hollows, he begins fighting like a human again, on 2 feet and using more complex weapons and attacks like his crossbow or his spin attack. Him becoming more human after hollowing has so many interesting lore implications that I can't even begin to discuss. Gael is the perfect end to the series, his fight shows just how desperately the age of fire clings to relevancy, it wont even end if the world is nothing but ash. Its the culmination of one man's plan to finally bring down a system that kept him a slave for so long, and its the culmination of the series as a whole.
