You just brought back a flood of memories with that jerk bait. Same technique as you. I learned over the years that technique works excellent with frogs and poppers too. The hardest part is learning not to set the hook until you actually feel the fish. Because with that top water explosion it's so exciting that you often times jerk the bait out of the fish's mouths before they ever get ahold of it. Lol! They're so much fun! Thanks for the walk down memory lane! Happy Fishing! 😊

I agree. I started using the floating balsam Rapala in the 1960’s in Ontario Canada and still have 30 or 40 different Rapalas in my tackle boxes. I always take at least one or two different styles on every fishing trip I go on. I have fished the from Coast to Coast in Canada and they never fail to catch fish. My favourite colour was the black and gold.

The Rapala F18...BIG floating jerkbait...Doug Hannon, the Bass Professor back in the day for big bass always had this size floating jerk as a fav for big bass 10+ lbs...Big baits=Big fish...an old but fav. of mine today...Bomber Long A...another great old school topwater jerk that still produces

The Bomber Long A came out around the early 90s if I remember correctly and was the first true suspending jerk bait. First cast I ever made with it landed a 4#'er. Awesome bait! As for the "Bass Professor", I grew up down the road from him and a colorful individual is best way I can put it. Appreciate you watching and commenting!

For me, the floating minnow is great, ive fished in Florida, in urban ponds with sand bottom,no grass, and it got a big ole bass in Port st lucie ,and several, 3,4,5 lb level fish, the perch bar patterns, and bright orange white belly, were awsome. Same as chartreuse top white bottom. And the classic black back. All cracked good bass. The smaller ones up to 3 inch, and the 4 to 5 inch are all good baits, for me. I get a tite wobble w a regular knot and wider w loop knot or clip. Sometimes, it makes a difference, or.just easier to swap colors faster. But back up north west, i failed to get bit on any of them, definitely felt it works better down here, for me. I also didn't know how to use it as a topwater. But fun, to fish any way you can. I use 1 size up on hooks and weight strips to get it to suspend, and that's a good way to get the peacock bass for me and aligator gar.

Just came across your video,I do agree,my mentor in 65,gave me one,I learned quickly not to move it,it will catch anything,I put a white bucktail on one,it worked amazing,my number two would be a black jitterbug with silver spots with a white forked porkrind trailer, let it land, dead stick it,let the rind move around,so good,my first five was caught on it,people don't think the old lures won't catch fish now,I totally disagree.

The greatest bass fishing lure ever invented is a two way tie between a 7” Texas rig plastic worm (June Bug) and a skirted jig/trailer (black/blue). They are the most versatile with the most possible presentations. Along the bottom, slung in the slop, or swimming through the water column, you just can’t go wrong with them.

Best guess is I have $500-$600 in Rapala minnow Shadraps, Xraps, etc etc I do own 90% of every floating sinking and suspending jointed and non jointed minnow bait made by Rapala from the 1.5" to the 5.25" size used Rapala minnows to catch my biggest walleye 2nd biggest Northern and a Rapale Firetiger rattle trap to catch my biggest northern pike at 46" and 27lbs Unless you are #1 lucky enough to live near a major bass fishery known for producing >7lb bass (I do not) on a regular basis and #2 you have boat to fish these lakes (again I do not) a 5lb bass is a BIG bass I fish three lakes 90% of the time mostly due to the combination of good shore access to good structure one is walking distance, one is a short drive one is under

  • @JoePepperFishing

Thank you sir. I prefer Trilene 10# XL on the micro, and 1.5" model. It's light enough to cast, strong enough to hold most fish, and does a better job of floating, unlike fluorocarbon lines that sink and cause nose drooping and line catches.
