The Great Western Society: 50 Years of Progress

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is my personal project from my course at uni, focusing on the Great Western Society, looking at a brief history of the society, and their site at Didcot Railway Centre. Also acting as an appeal video for the £125,000 appeal to purchase a new 50 year lease on the Didcot site.
Update: On Thursday 6th October 2011 the new 50 year lease for the Didcot site was signed by GWS Chairman Richard Croucher, securing the long term future of the railway centre.

I remember going to Didcot railway centre in June 2006 and king Edward 2nd was in a shed being renovated. Great to see it completed

I was on the train with 6106 when we moved from Taplow to Didcot . We had the Ocean Express coaches and the Dynometer car that were owned by Glyn Jones if I remember correctly.. There was Fred and Tony (Bones) who were driver and fireman.. We celebrated by visiting the pub across the road and then at the BR cafe down the road in the morning..

As others have commented, this is an excellently filmed and produced video, I did not realise the scope of the work, and site development that has taken place there. thank you for posting and best wishes to you for your studdies Vern

Very informative and well presented piece. It's certainly got me wanting to visit Didcot again - been a few years since I was last there now. One thing I would suggest keeping an eye on is the volume levels. The voiceover seemed a fair bit quieter than the pieces delivered to camera.

Great Western Railway always uses Brunswick Green. Why is 6023 King Edward II in a blue color?

+McGuire Shepherd it was one of the liveries it carried in BR days - British Railways experimental blue, rarely seen in preservation on any region!

Oh. I see. The one locomotive I am obsessed is 5972 Olton Hall. She is the best.

Brunswick green was not used by the Great Western Railway. It was one of the colours used by British Railways along with blue, maroon and black.
