THE GREAT PRETENDER STATLER BROTHERS

YOU PROBABLY DID NOT KNOW THE STATLER BROTHERS WERE INTO ROCK AND ROLL. COMPARE THE STATLER BROTHERS IN THIS VIDEO TO THE STATLER BROTHERS IN THE OTHER VIDEO I UPLOADED. DO YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENCES?

The Statler's are classic no matter what song they do. The character of their sound and their music is unmatched in music by newer groups since then.

When I was a teenager here in New York they had a big hit in Flowers On The Wall which was considered Rock And Roll. As for country music they are the greatest and what can I say about Lew Dewitt other than there was no better tenor he is missed. Also if you happen to have I Was There could you upload it. Thanks New York City country fan.

Yeah, I love these guys. Unfortunately I only just discovered them. I was a bit shocked to see this: first Freddie Mercury, my IDOL, covered this, and now the Statler Brothers, the single greatest country band ever, covered it. And did an amazing job I might add.

  • @goldilox369

I know who 'Elizabeth' is: It's actually about two different girls. But, the song doesn't lose any meaning or heart-felt tenderness once you know the story.* The song was for two ladies, actually... Right after Jimmy Fortune joined the BROS. he wrote this about the mother of 4 of his kids, & the song was named after his newborn baby girl. But, it's her middle name, not her 1st name. No matter what, it's gorgeous, and I grew up to these albums in my family record collection, and had many, many good summertime memories listening to the hometown boys [*I'm obviously, Staunton,VA born & raised. I used to babysit Jimmy's kids in the early 1990s on baseball tournaments, etc...My mom taught Harold & Don's kids in high school, and my brother played Kiwanis little league with Jimmy's son & Phil's grandson...]

Two very different voices! Lew carried them through 1982 and Jimmy carried them from 1982 until 2002 when they retired and he's still performing. If either one of them had been missing, there would have been no Statler Brothers. Just enjoy them both.
