The Great Loop 046 Finding an Anchorage in New Smyrna

Спорт

A good anchorage is wide, deep and doesn't have too many boats so you can swing safely around in case the wind changes direction. And in this particular case, there were plenty of trees close by that would protect us from the gale that was predicted to blow from the North. This wonderful spot also had a great little island to walk the dogs and some awesome fishing nearby. It was by far, my favorite spot on this trip so far to spend a few days.

If your still having issues with the dingy motor I’d suggest draining and putting new gas in. Sometimes water gets into the gas tank through pumps or rain. I’ve had issues with my 8hp, went through parts, and finally changed the gas. Simple fix to try first.

Never ceases to amaze and dishearten me how many people go out of their way to find a beautiful spot to camp or party and then make zero effort to clean up after themselves. If you can lug all your food and drink etc when it's full and heavy then you sure as hell should be able to take the empty and light cans, bottles etc when you leave. Just imagine, if everyone just did this very simple thing what an incredibly positive difference it would make to the environment.

Unfortunately in these modern days there is so very little land (or islands) that someone hasnt laid claim/ownership to. Even back in Tampa you kinda just wander up and explore what "look to be empty/uninhabited " islands....I just always wonder if they are actually owned and someone one day is gonna be unhappy at your presence. I love the idea of primitive un-owned islands.....but I just wonder if they still exist?

Marty, if you are still losing coolant on the port engine, do yourself a favor by doing a compression test of each cylinder on the engine to rule out a leaky head gasket or cracked head or block. You can rent for free the compression test gear at an Autozone and perhaps others (they require a deposit for the tool which is returned when you return the tool to them). The next place to look is at your heat exchanger. If you can find out who made it, and they are still in business, you can contact them and ask for testing procedures and any other help they can provide. The other option is locating the "right" mechanic that is truly skilled in the Ford marinized V8 and the cooling system you have in place. These mechanics do exist, and referrals are how they stay busy and unfortunately the best mechanics are booked up but perhaps you can plead your case and get some help. Sorry for your obvious frustration with the engine issues and the lack of a safety margin and control issues running on just one engine. You will get there, and we are all behind you and Mike in this journey. Stay strong my digital friend..... Joe
