The Great Greenhouse Build 2020 - Episode 7

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It has been a bit of a frustratingly slow week on the greenhouse build, but fortunately ultimately successful! The last 10% of the roof seems to have taken 90% of the time; "I'll do it this way" no "I've changed my mind, I'll do it this way". Lot's of changes of mind and fiddly work, trying to fit windows that have been given to me. I've also learnt a new way to cut Plexiglass, which I'll show you. So joining on the continuing greenhouse build epic :)

I finally learnt how to cut plexiglass or clear plastic through this site without splitting or cracking it. I found this site, terrific. from Sydney

Great progress Steve. It's a load off when those fiddly jobs are out of the way. Good to hear you're giving yourself time off when you need to.

Was nice to take a day off doing the greenhouse. We went to a Christmas tree farm, where you pick a tree out and they cut it down then and there. Then an afternoon on the sofa, which is very rare :)

Hi Steve, it's all coming together now! You'll soon have seedlings germinating in there. I have my first seedlings and plants in my polytunnel.. which we put up on the hottest day of the year here in the UK last summer 😅.. lettuce, broadbeans, spring onions and radishes. I have a chart of what you can grow under plastic and the list is endless, especially over the winter months... I'm so pleased to have my polytunnel as you will be with your bespoke greenhouse 👍 Hope the treatment goes well and don't tire yourself out too much.. there's always tomorrow 😊

John Goldthorpe I actually have every time, other than that shot! I had left them in the shed and badly couldn’t be bothered to go all the way down there again. Bad I know.! In the “How to cut Plexiglass” vid I did after, I had eye and ear protection on 😀

You might be able to use a bit of metal flashing to fix your window problem.

Hi Steve. Greenhouse coming on great. I was thinking of using metal oil drums in my greenhouse and polly tunnel over spring or next winter and fill with horse manure and I was hoping the barrel would heat up and give off the heat. I have the space for a pallet hotbed outside so might try that for Spring seedlings.

craig hughes cracking ideas 💡. Would the oil.drums allow enough thermal mass to create heat. Wirth an experiment though. They will definitely work with water though. Let me know how the manure works 😀

@@TheOptimisticGardener I will do an experiment when I get it all set up... need to invest in a good thermometer to see if the barrel will get hot enough to warm the greenhouse. And can be moved... I will keep you informed.
