Hello everyone! Back in May 2024, the CSX Office Car Special returned for the second time this year to the Greater Cincinnati Area as it was passing through Northern Kentucky, on its way to Louisville. The CSX OCS was traveling west from West Virginia, taking the former Chesapeake and Ohio mainline in Eastern Kentucky and then transferring to former Louisville and Nashville trackage upon arriving in Northern Kentucky. My fellow KZreadr Cincy Railfan Productions and I chased the Office Car Special on its journey through the Greater Cincinnati Area, and had a great time catching it in multiple locations.
We first spotted the OCS behind the former Bobby Macke's bar on the Wilder Main. The Wilder Main, as the local railfans call it, was once a prominent Louisville and Nashville mainline into Cincinnati and a transfer track between the L&N and the C&O. Today, it still receives occasional coal trains that transfer off the C&O main onto the Corbin Subdivision and vice-versa, but traffic is only a few trains a week. In fact, we caught one of these coal trains doing such a transfer as we waited for the main event, and I included the footage of that train at the end of this video. The Wilder Main one of the least-busy lines in the region, and this fact made catching the OCS at this location even more special. We had excellent lighting behind Bobby Macke's and the footage quality at this location came out superb.
After the Office Car Special passed us the first time, Cincy Railfan Productions and I chased it down to Latonia, Kentucky, and filmed it transferring off of the Corbin Subdivision and onto the LCL Subdivision. We first caught the OCS in reverse at Latonia Junction, then caught the OCS passing through downtown Latonia starting its journey on the LCL Subdivision to Louisville. Although the lighting was not as good in these locations as we had to face the sun, we were still fortunate to get it in action two more times and made the most of our adventure in Northern Kentucky.
