The Great British Radio Play Presents......................................The Voyage of the Demeter

Ойын-сауық

The Voyage of the Demeter
by Robert Forrest
vampire fiction, Bram Stoker
Based on a part of Bram Stoker's classic horror novel DRACULA which tells of the sea voyage that brought the vampire count from Transylvania to England. But suppose there were details about that voyage that were never revealed ... until now?
In the late summer of 1897, the schooner Demeter sets sail from the port of Varna on the Black Sea on a voyage to Whitby in the south of England. Among her cargo are, according to the manifest, large boxes containing soil from Transylvania.
But this is a voyage unlike any other. Soon the whole crew becomes aware of something very wrong lurking about and in the dark corners of the ship ... and the voyage turns into a terrifying ordeal ...

I listen to this play at least 2x a week to go to sleep. I wish there were more book/movie adaptations like this.

Fantastic production! So well constructed and acted. The voice acting towards the end was exceptional. An interesting take on the well-known Whitby-Dracula connection!

Great production. Bram Stoker was a great influence on another of my favorite authors H.P. Lovecraft. The diary style of Dracula was a favorite of Lovecraft and influenced many of his stories. Tangent over. Lol

'Who would be a man? Befuddled by conscience, remorse, and delusions of morality?' I love the fact that they managed to work such a direct reference to Alien into this script.

Along with the reference to eggs, smothering and then getting some decent food! I thought I was hearing things but loved it! :)

Err bit before Alien. This was a chapter in Bram Stoker's original novel. The Demeter was the ship that Dracula travelled in, making landfall at Whitby, Yorkshire

@@bcasey3639 Yes, it is of course true that Stoker's seminal gothic horror masterpiece does predate Alien by a little short of a century, but I am pretty sure the wording has been reworked from the original text for this production in order to slip in references to Alien, which is rather fun.
