His diction and vocal cord adduction are so precise. Incredible. Complete breath control.

If people sang Mozart like this, I would enjoy it a lot more. An aria over sung, but never performed well. Great singing and acting. A great lesson on the art form. Please like and subscribe.

Indeed. I love Taddei's and Bacquier's versions as well. They also strike a nigh-perfect balance between singing and expression.

Sesto was THE premier buffo baritone in these buffo bass roles but what"a interesting is the single fact he sung the priest in I puritani to Rolando Panerai's Riccardo.

I went for a voice lesson with him once in the 1990s. He said to put the voice more in the mask and that you can tell it's in the mask if you pinch your nose and the sound changes... He thought the palate should be quite low and yes that basically the sound should go in the nose... He mentioned that some great singers like Pertile had been criticised for being too nasal but said they probably wouldn't have been great if they hadn't sung in the nose... This performance seems great though, and like you say, not especially nasal. The other thing he recommended was pushing out the solar plexus area while you sing.

The problem with Mozart's great Operas today is that these are sung by students with no technique whatsoever. Even on the professional stage they are given a very mellow type of approach. It is making his operas appaling. This is one of the greatest interprretaions, sung throughout and acted impeccably. The other great interpreter of the aria who normally played the Don was the great bass Cesare Siepi. If only this insanity with Mozart today would be replaced to be sung by real artists.

Don giovanni is calling Leporello "the old" so if we will have old Verdi's camerton(tuning of the orchestra 1/2 step lower) we will have normal basso-buffo for this role. So this bariton doesn't have colors for this aria.

Strange comment. Bruscantini is one of the best Leporellos, regardless of whether he is a bass or not.

You’re totally right - much better to have a blustery, shopworn buffo barking through this aria, than the playful, full throated ease of Bruscantini. Your intractable, rigid idea of fachs is totally original and incisive!
