‘The Gray House’ Civil War Spy Drama Series From Kevin Costner to Open Monte-Carlo Television Festival
The 63rd annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco will debut in June with "The Gray House," a limited series about a female spy ring during the Civil War, created by Kevin Costner.
The six-episode limited series narrates the little-known history of four Southern women who were important espionage agents for the Union: a mother of a socialite in Virginia, a Black lady who had been enslaved, and a high-class prostitute. The group of four is recognized as an unsung hero that contributed to the violent division of the country in 1865. The ensemble cast is led by Daisy Head, Ben Vereen, Amethyst Davis, and Mary-Louise Parker.
Along with Costner's Territory Pictures and Big Dreams Entertainment from Republic Pictures, Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary produce under the Revelations Entertainment banner. The show is being distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, but it's unclear where "Gray House" will air in the United States at this time.
"I've always looked to history as a source for stories. "The Gray House" is a significant American tale that, because it is a genuine tale of sacrifice for freedom, appeals to viewers everywhere," remarked Costner. The epic spy adventure promises to excite, inform, and motivate audiences. Though I'm happy to be working on this project, I would have like to direct it myself. We are presented with a depiction of four extraordinarily courageous women set against a vast backdrop of romance, history, tragedy, and conflict thanks to the enormous talent of filmmaker Roland Joffé.
Executive producers include Costner, Freeman, McCreary, Rod Lake, Howard Kaplan, and Leslie Greif.
According to Freeman and McCreary, "we look for stories that inspire and reveal truth" at Revelations. "The Gray House" is precisely that: the story of four female spies who battled to preserve American unity in the midst of the Civil War. This actual spycraft tale was on the verge of being forgotten by history, yet it played a crucial role in the Union's triumph over the Confederacy.
June 14-16 is Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
