The Gravity Group: Explained

The Gravity Group are a designer and fabricator of wooden roller coasters, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The company has become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of wooden roller coasters, providing a unique range of designs and styles to its customers. Today, the Gravity Group is known both for their small scale compact rides, such as Twister at Grona Lund; as well as their larger, thrilling wooden coasters, which can feature inversions, like Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus.

Fun fact: if you look at who worked with whom, you can trace a direct line of descent from John Miller (inventor of the upstop wheel and first of the "great" coaster designers) all the way to Gravity Group. GG was founded by former designers for CCI, which was founded by former designers for Dinn Corp., which built coasters designed by Curtis D. Summers, who worked for John Allen, who co-designed with Herb Schmeck, who worked with John Miller. So they are part of a continuity of coaster design and innovation that stretches back over 100 years. Their coasters actually make me think of what John Miller might be designing if he were still around today.

IMO, there are three branches that almost all manufacturers derive from. They are the John Miller line (GCI, Gravity Group), the Anton Schwarzkopf line (Intamin, B&M), and the Walt Disney line (Arrow, S&S).

One disagreement. Timberliners SUCK if you're a bigger guy. Those lapbars won't even close without stapling me and I'm sub 300 lbs. not a huge dude.

Mine Blower is the only Gravity Group coaster I’ve ridden. Terrible intro to this manufacturer, square wheels on already bumpy track isn’t very good
