The Grateful Dead Live On: Scenes from the San Francisco Concert Lot | KQED Arts

Ойын-сауық

While the Grateful Dead in 2015 may sometimes seem to belong to Lexus-driving millionaires of the San Francisco-Bay Area, KQED Arts caught up with the Deadhead crowd outside a recent concert and found an idealistic, not-so-affluent, nomadic fan base that still believes in miracles. For more: ww2.kqed.org/arts/2015/12/31/l...
CORRECTION: Queen Bee featured at 3:15 has been a Dead Head Since 1965.

Shout out to Chris Stone, my last Dead show was in SF in 1978. Memorable, in that I didn't remember any of the songs except Mississippi Half Step the morning after. 45 years later, finally tracked down the recording of that very night. Found out which jam blasted my memory loose.

@@WhyDoIKeepFuckinUp Well, the memory of the other songs never came back, but I replaced them when I found the recording. Understood then what had happened to my brain - it must have been the Franklin's Tower that blasted it clean.

I didn't know who Bill Graham was when he miracled me on that very sidewalk, NYE 84, age 17. But I knew who he was soon after that! Over three decades later, DeadCo finished their first tour (20 shows, I think) in Vegas around Thanksgiving in 2015, then BGC Dec 28/9 (this video) before NYE at The Forum. Those were my first 6 DeadCo shows. Jah bless the Grateful Dead

I been seeing and touring some incarnation of this band since 88 . Still enjoy the music but will never stop missing Jerry. Us old folks are Dead Heads we been there done that . Now these newer fans are Company kids . It"s a different world from 88 to 95 when the Family was stronger than dirt and Wrecking crew took care of bad elements on lot . Just my observations . I love my Family still on road but some Respect for O G heads is somewhat lacking .

I’m not buying it either. Most of us early days ‘heads wouldn’t tie our legitimacy to such a “claim”. They were simply not the “dead”...they were a “folk” outfit around Palo Alto. Now, she may have “hung around” the pizza place, but no one, and I mean, NO ONE, really gave a shit. More than likely that claim is exaggerated in an effort to endorse all things “dead”...which in the end is a big “so what”...hey, I was one of the “wise men” that followed the “star” of Bethlehem to Jerry’s birth in SF...ten whole years before my own kidnapping into this life. FTW

So some folks made something of themselves....good for them. Better than selling crank, stickers, and grilled cheese out of a van with dirty hands, dirty money, dirty souls, and 2 children under the age of 5 tucked away in the center console. Father passed out from ketamine and the mother too sore to walk after she got her "miracle ticket". It wasn't all good in those days. Let's be happy for the ones who don't have to live that life.
