The problem with all these home rebuilds in China is that we never see the completion of it. I loved watching it but when it always ends incomplete, I was very dissatisfied. And stopped watching all these videos. Hey, I was willing to donate money to help them. So, this is just my comment on all these videos. Only reason I viewed this last one, just to write my opinion.

I usually enjoy these videos, but this one was hard to watch. They were so disrespectful of the original building, hacking at it like a bunch of wasteful Americans: rip out, rip out, destroy, destroy, with little appreciation of how the original was built. Watching them scrape off the old roofing tiles without caring for them and stripping the reed underlayment was bad enough, but when they took sledgehammers and pickaxes to the old wok stoves and hypocaustic sleeping shelves, I felt sick. This group seems to have a lot of money to burn, with all the heavy equipment and expensive modern materials. But the Western building materials and techniques that they used are not going to last 'hundreds of years', and are probably going to shorten the life of the old wood that they bothered to save: I can already see great potential for moisture problems and associated dry rot. I wish them well, but I am still sad.
