Ardus Kaine.... that is a name that sounds awesome and I actually like the pentastar alignment. Both the name. And it’s military. Command. funding and political structure. Zinj May have had the strongest military at the time but kaine knew (Mostly) it was better to focus on his own forces and consolidating rather than outright attacking the new republic. (Of course when palpitine summons you and orders you to lead on the front lines. It really a choice of dying slowly and painfully (a long time of getting shocked by force lightning) or dying fast in the heat of battle. He was basically gonna die no matter what most likely)

The legends timeline’s story of the decaying galactic empire is so much more realistic than the canon’s. Something like it happened in our world too. After the abdication of Nicholas II, Russian Empire quickly fell into anarchy as competing political factions destabilized the country. Then came the October Revolution and Russia’s fate was finally sealed. The Bolsheviks took over the country but they didn’t control most of its parts. Old regime sympathizers consolidated their power on the river Don and in Ukraine, thus creating the White movement. Separatist factions arose, intervention began, it was total war!

Another good example would be Alexander the Great. After his death, four of his generals split up his empire and began fighting each other.

Yes! Thank you for doing a video on Ardus Kaine! A fascinating character and extremely competent Warlord. Though his actions immediately after Endor did irreparable damage to the Empire and saved the New Republic. He had Grand Admiral Grant, a Super Star Destroyer, Jerec and the most powerful infrastructure of the Warlords yet he did nothing until his hand was forced in Shadow Hand. He did win a dozen victories and drive to the Core before his assassination. Each of the Warlords are fascinating in their own way, hope you do one on Zsinj!

@@sfk1066 I mean he was correct-the Empire tore itself apart, the Core fell and if he tried to expand he might fail. The issue is though that his actions helped speed that along. His ignoring Central Authority helped inspire other Admirals and Moffs to do the same. It helped fragment the Empire and before that his retreat from Mon Cal and abandoning of most of Oversector Outer allowed the New Republic to survive and thrive.

Trying to reconquer Coruscant and the Empire at large with a handful of ISDs and one SSD is a fool's errand. Unless you've got tactics better than Thrawn, that's a pipe dream. Better to let the other Imperials and former Rebels blow each other up while you consolidate your power. If he hadn't died in Operation Shadow Hand, Kaine might have become the next commander-in-chief for the whole Empire, and he might have made a difference against the Yuuzhan Vong.

@@HolyknightVader999 you forget he had far more than just Scourge Squadron. A vast chunk of the naval forces from Oversector Outer went with him to the PA. His dereliction of duty in not assaulting(or at least continuing to blockade) Mon Cal Space during and right after Endor allowed the Alliance to repair and construct warships they otherwise wouldn't have. Kaine going rogue led to Delvardus doing the same and emboldened other Imperial commanders to follow his example badly weakening central authority in the Empire. This also convinced Grand Admiral Grant to defect after Kaine refused to try and save Imperial Center(which he could have done easily at its first fall) ironically causing his own future demise in the process. Further after Shadow Hand the Empire was mortally wounded(the Imperial Mutiny ruined the majority of the military strength) and had Kaine lived he would have used the failure of Shadow Hand and the madness of the Mutiny to justify returning to Isolationism. He wouldn't have unified with Jax and the Council or the Deep Core Warlords. He was a talented administrator and brilliant tactician but fatally flawed with indecision-a historical parallel would be Yuan Shao.

Sadly I was forced to eliminate him in a massive space battle last week...

Tarkin wasnt as good a military commander as Thrawn or Kaine. Even during the Clone Wars. So yes, he was definitely better than Tarkin.

Thank God you make these Legends videos, this is stuff I otherwise would never know as there's so much Legends content to read up on.

Basic logic, there is little chance that Disney will be able to release the same amount of content as legends. For the simple fact that the old EU was having content produced for it for nearly 40 years (37 years at time of axeing)

@UC-fA8INMozzuBsQJ0c1sgjQ I'm gonna assume he was probably well-defended and anticipated a New Republic attack. However, he had the other factions distracting them causing ravoc. Also, if those factions succeed or failed, it would give him better leverage mounting his own invasion, assuming New Republic forces would have dwindled...if planned appropriately of course.

The time after Endor was a very fascinating one, with many contenders for the true heir of Palpatine, from Ysanne Isard, to Warlord Zsinj, and Ardus Kaine. The Empire after Endor was basically Westeros writ large, dominated by powerful warlords who answered to nobody. It would have made for a great TV series to have what amounts to Game of Thrones in space with the Rebels in the background.

I hate moffs they get everywhere and I have to keep killing them.

How you pick stuff no one else covers from the Star Wars mythos is why this channel is my personal favourite.

I love the Pentastar Alignment. You get the chance to play as them in the Thrawn’s Revenge mod!

Watching this has piqued my curiousity about the Imperial remnants' military events after ROTJ. It's always been somewhat vague and distant in my mind since I've never read any of them but I've resolved to read them now

Funny tidbit- when I was 6 in 1977, and ANH came out, I thought they called Tarkin Grandma Tarkin, so my friends and I went around calling him that. True story.

4 things 1. In Empire at War: Thrawn's Revenge Mod, Pentastar Alignment is probably my favorite faction. 2. Did you know there is a Spacebattles quest by user Alias? It is actually pretty entertaining, though it hasn't been updated in a while. 3. 1:29 "crucial to the existence and survival of the empire" Well, he was right, wasn't he? 4. Imagine this guy and Thrawn actually working together- the things Thrawn could do with the Reaper...

A friend of mine loves the sith, so I drew her a sith inpired pentastar alignment. It was a black star on a red background. lotta fun to figure out how to draw with a compass and a straight edge.

The whole video I kept unconsciously asking "An artist of what?!"

While he didn’t do anything to aid the post Endor empire he helped set the groundworks for the creation of the imperial remnant. If he had just gone off crusading against the NR he would’ve run out of steam eventually and his territory would have fallen to the rebels before Palleon could’ve set up shop.

Also, I had a question. The Empire of the Hand is actually closest to the Pentastar Alignment IIRC. What would have happened if Kaine found out about the EofH and made an alliance with the Grand Admiral? Kaine's best friend was Grand Admiral Octavian Grant, who really hated Thrawn. How do you think that would affect things if they did make an alliance?

Only one issue Kaine wasn't actually that much of a true believer in the Human Centric aspect of the New Order. He only pretended to be both to appease his father and to keep the rest of the Imperials from using it against him.

Kaine was a true imperial even to the grave.

A very underrated and not well known character in Star Wars. Probably my personal favorite Imperial.

Here's a totally unrelated question: Why did Yoda warn Luke to not underestimate the power of the Emperor, but not bother to tell him that not only is he Force sensitive/Sith but that he'll fry him with (Sith) lighting?

I forgot, did you ever do a scoop on Warload Zinji?

Kaine was smart. He knew when to play his hand. Too bad he got fucked over by the assignation of Thrawn and Palpatine returning and wanting to apeshit on the New Republic, leading to Kaine's own assassination by the New Republic.

Isn't there still exists imperial remnant in canon? Like I heard they still control core worlds, why then Resistance fights only with First Order

I presume this character was dropped in after the prequels, I read most of the books up to the beginning New Jedi Order and I've never heard of him. I never read the comics if he was mentioned in those.

In my opinion, it could have been better if Star Wars was set in a dwarf galaxy with only a few thousand to a few 10,000 stars, it doesn't seem "realistic" that a warlord or faction can control a large portion of the galaxy and in a small galaxy it would make much more sense why the same planets and names show up again and again, and not as in a Milky Way sized galaxy that has hundreds of billions of star systems.

Tarkin will always be my favourite. After Piett and Veers of course...Needa and Lennox were okay.

*EU has so much lore to work with, the Lucasfilm hacks suck at trying to make supposed canon lore where they are terrible at it. From what I know the imperial empire becomes a kingdom and han solo's daughter marries the heir.*

Jaina Solo married Jagged Fel, the son of a Imperial fighter ace who had defected to the Chiss (and married a relative of Wedge). Later on he became Emperor (somehow) and his house were both Emperors slash Empresses and force users. This house carried on for around 100 years until the rise of Darth Kryat and that whole mess. Later the new Empire was reorganized into the Galactic Federation with his descendent forming part of the Triumvirate that ran the show. Or something like that, I forget.

I feel like Kaine was kinda wasted, to be honest. He was clever, a solid ruler, and had the biggest military force of the warlord. The Imperial Remnant could have used him well.

Considering how pathetic most of the other warlords and factions were early on. It honestly made sense not to waste valuable forces on helping pathetic leadership.
