He looks like someone who should be in one of his movies

Notice how he calls it "our movie" instead of taking credit for himself? No wonder he is able to attract so many talented actors to work with him. His movies often also reflect this - the story begins with people being alone and ends up with everyone uniting.

I remember when The Grand Budapest Hotel came out in 2014, at the time I didn’t watch it even though I wanted to, i have wanted to for a while so I watched for the first time 3 days ago. That was one of the best films I have seen before, i would rank it at my top 5.

Berlin and Vienna are not Eastern Europe, Wes. That's West/Central Europe.

Well he got the Berlin wrong that's for sure, as for Vienna if you consider the fact that the movie is set in the beginning of the 20th century and he is talking in that context then it was still the Austro-Hungarian empire which included some of the Eastern Europe...

Neither are Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary (etc.). All of these countries are part of Central Europe (and had - historically - much more to do with Germany and Austria than, say, Russia). I understand 20th century history (taking part in the socialist/communist Eastern block) has left quite an impression, but that's just a very short period in political and cultural history of these countries. And I'm not trying to bitch or anything but coming from Central Europe myself it does get a bit frustrating when people abroad still ask me what life in Eastern Europe is like when I really have no idea.

Irena Pečavar I've seen a couple of interviews of him and he seems very specific then describing it. Then asked why he felt the story needed to be set in an fictional country he was referring to it as "Central Europe" but only geographically, while then asked about more abstract stuff such as inspiration for characters and so on he was referring to everything as "Eastern" I believe he's referring to ideologies in this case... you know that time that set the West and East apart? communism vs capitalism.. till this day newspapers make those references a lot. No one knows where the border between E and W is neither does Wes but people always get the reference... I understand your frustration it's just that political/ideological borders cannot be pinpointed they are abstract . They should have disappeared once the USSR fell apart but that's easier said than done.

A brilliant guy in most ways, but he has to relearn his geography of Europe. Germany and Austria are certainly NOT Eastern Europe. They're central Europe. Hungary, Czech and Poland are debatable. I would say they are Eastern Europe personally, but some people may beg to differ.

I love the movie but I miss a balance in the film. What I mean is, there is a need to have MORE and more multi dimensional female characters in the film. This is why the film is good but not great...not enough female characters. Wes Anderson try a female protagonist next time.

While I don't think your argument is completely founded, as there are Agatha and Madame D who are 2 indispensable players in the story, I agree that his movies do often appear to lack a main female protagonist (save for Moonrise Kingdom). But also bear in mind that this film is set in a time when women still weren't an enormous presence in the professional world. And much of the film revolves around this time and that notion of truly having "a vocation," thus not many women are focused on. Also, I don't think a filmmaker should feel obligated to write a film around a female protagonist just for the sake of being more PC or whatever.
