The GP35R - The Backbone of the Work fleet

The General Motors Electro Motive Division (EMD) GP35 is a 4-axle diesel electric freight locomotive built from 1963 to 1966. A total of 1,334 were constructed for use on several different railroads. They are powered by an EMD 567D3A 16-cylinder engine with a power output of 2,500 horsepower/1,860 kW.
In the 1990s, MTA Metro-North Railroad (MNR), was using a fleet of beaten up work units such as a single GP8, GP9, B23-7, and RS3M. To replace these locomotives, MNR ordered 6 GP35 locomotives from Conrail and rebuilt them to GP35Rs. They were re-numbeed to 101 - 106. Around the time of 2015, MNR sent the GP35Rs to Brookville Equipment for a rebuild. 2 other GP35Rs were also purchased being numbered, 107 and 108. Currently, all GP35Rs are in active service with Metro-North Railroad with no plans of retirement ahead.

101, 102, 103, 104, 105, and 106 were the first 6 units purchased and in 2013 the 107 and 108 were purchased and added to the rebuild program most likely due to the short comings of the BL14CG
