GenX. I think maybe we're better parents, but I also think we've shielded later generations too much from the world. Us GenX'ers are survivors, we're tough, and innovative because we had to be. We know the dangers that exist in the world, but I think we protect them a bit too much.

Us 80s kids were far more adventures than kids today because we had no Internet etc so we had to play out, normally from morning to night. We would often go and adventures, thats why this film spoke to us, it was the ultimate adventure. This was one of the best kids films of the 80s.

Man, this is one of my all time favorite movies. Thank you for doing this. There is so much awesome trivia associated with this movie but I will keep it short. Jeff Cohen (Chunk) actually felt a kind of way about his portrayal in this (and the other movies he had been in) and stopped acting because he got tired of being The Fat Kid. He became extremely health conscious and lost the weight. He went to Richard Donner (Goonies director) and asked for a recommendation to get into college. When Donner read Cohen's notes detailing his early life and struggles (being overweight and "Truffle Shuffle") Donner and his wife 0ffered to pay for his college education. He became a successful lawyer.

Goonies is a childhood favorite for many, myself included. It's just so rewatchable. By the way, the remark Data made about the "octopus" wasn't making up stories. Did you notice when she starts singing "Rock a Bye Baby" to Sloth & she gets to the "When the bough breaks the cradle will fall" part, he angrily yells "Break! Fall!" & rubs his head/eye & she says "I only dropped you once" then "Well maybe twice" before he throws her overboard. It's basically saying she dropped him on more than one occasion while he was just a baby & it's implied that he suffered breaks & injuries (possibly head trauma) & that maybe this explains what happened to him that he turned out the way he did, which, as sweet as he is, this part & the "Mama, you been bad" parts always saddened me tremendously bc Sloth deserved alot better in life. I'm glad that Chunk took him in at the end of the movie as much as they care for one another. You guys are awesome & I love ya'll. Keep up the great work! Big fan here from Tennessee!! I rewatched this movie a gazillion times as a kid...got to see it in the theater when it came out...it's a movie that is part of my upbringing and gave me so much adventurous joy!! Also, was so happy to see Sean Austin get to be part of the ultimate adventure trilogy Lord of the Rings! And Josh Brolin as Sean's older brother became an amazing actor. And Chunk, is a really cool guy, I met him at the comic book store I worked at in Berkeley. He was running for campus prez and he was using his Chunk character as part of poster campaign. He's a sweet guy with a great sense of humor. Was studying to be a Hollywood lawyer...and that's what he's doing to this day. 😀

A couple of things you should know: 1) Their mention of an octopus wasn't them making shit up. In the directors cut, they actually had to fight a monster octopus in the waters outside of the pirate ship. 2) Even in the 1980s, the salvage laws in the U.S. would have put that ship in the possession of the people who found it, and given the fact that every single one of those adults knew that the Goonies rediscovered it, the ship and everything on it would technically be theirs, so them and all of their families would have been rich after the events in this film.

Little Big Man (1970) When a curious oral historian (William Hickey) turns up to hear the life story of 121-year-old Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), he can scarcely believe his ears. Crabb tells of having been rescued and raised by the Cheyenne, of working as a snake-oil salesman, as a gunslinger, and as a mule skinner under Gen. Custer (Richard Mulligan). As if those weren't astonishing enough, he also claims to be the only white survivor of the infamous Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Such an awesome movie, and I love your sign! Filmed in and around Astoria, Oregon, where the movie was actually set. Marbles actually has a variety of games. I grew up playing several types of marbles games, but the most common marbles game is called knockout. To play one draws a circle on the pavement, usually about the size of a basketball hoop. Both players put an equal amount of marbles in the center of the circle. Each player has a shooter, a larger than normal marble, about an inch in diameter, and they take turns shooting at the marbles in the center of the circle [to shoot, one curls their index finger around the shooter marble loosely with their thumb behind the shooter marble. The thumb flicks forward propelling the shooter into the circle of marbles: that's taking a shot], each player picks up their shooter after it comes to a stop, and each player keeps any of the regular marbles that they knock out of the circle. Continue taking turns until the circle is empty. That's the competitive version. The friendly version has one player putting an odd number of marbles in the center and each player collects those that they knock out. The winner is the one that knocks out the most marbles, then the player gets their marbles back. I took anatomy and physiology in college. We worked with cadavers. Dissected dead people. It was not comfortable, but I made good grades. Still not comfortable. In fact, I had to drop the class the first time I tried to take it, cos it was soon after my foster parents were murdered, and I just couldn't handle cadavers so soon after. The man behind the prosthetics and the wiggling ears was John Matuzak, former Oakland Raider and massive human. The steroids he took to get so big for his playing days were a large part of the death of him, unfortunately. But he was great as Sloth. They actually BUILT One Eyed Willie's ship, and it was actually fairly seaworthy. They tried to sell it, and then give it away after the filming of the movie was done, but found no takers. It was destroyed. 😞 None of the cast saw the ship until the scene in the movie where it is first shown because they wanted to get the cast's actual reaction to the ship they'd built. Take two was used for the movie because they were rendered so speechless at their first look that they couldn't proceed. The octopus that was referred to was a deleted scene. It looked cheesy and bad so it deserved to end up on the cutting room floor. Sea caves can be more than deep enough to have a ship in. And it is possible for there to have been a channel made or remaining that would be deep enough for the ship to sail out. Considering all the engineering and equipment that Willie and his crew would have needed for these booby traps, it's possible that they could have cleared a breakaway channel for the ship to escape when someone stole Willie's share. Possible, but extremely unlikely. But that's the fun of movies, right?

Yeah, we played the friendly version of marbles as a kid, except we each put an equal amount of our own marbles in the center of the circle and tried to knock everyone else's out, and whoever was left standing with one marble inside the circle at the end was the winner. We all got our own marbles back at the end of the game. :)

This is going to be a long post just because I'm going to share a story about the Goonies house but first and foremost: I LOVE this reaction! You guys are so sweet. I can't possibly read all the comments and it's probably been said already but Steven Spielberg/ Donner refused to let the kids see the ship until the shot that we all see. It was genuine shock on their faces that we are seeing. At some point in your travels you should go to the Oregon coast, it's so beautiful. Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach is the famous 3 rock-formation featured in here. I can speak from personal experience about 3-4 years ago our family made a trip to Cannon Beach/ Astoria, etc. The Goonies house (Mikey's house) is still there but unfortunately the new owner is REALLY NASTY about tourists coming up to the house. It's up a little gravel roadway and quite literally my sister and I got out and walked up the drive (not a private road) and off to the right was the house. We barely had the house in view when a woman's voice rang out from inside saying, "Visitors are not allowed, turn around and go away!" She said no pictures either and that she'd call security! I honestly think they keep it a gravel road just so they can hear the crunch of the gravel as people try to wander up there! My parents were like "Well, it's her property now". But honestly why would you buy something so iconic to at least 2 generations of fans and then get mad when people seek it out?? It's like if Graceland became a private residence again...would people suddenly STOP seeking it out? Of course not. Anyway, as we walked away from the house my sister yelled "Goonies never say DIE!!" We hoped it kinda pissed her off a little, LOL.

As beautiful as that area may look, if there was a reboot of this movie the St Augustine, Florida area would be much more appropriate for filming. lt fits all the elements of the story, even better than Oregon.

I must’ve watched this one a thousand times over 😊 Love the little Gremlins reference about the creatures that multiply when you throw water on them when Chunk’s on the phone to the cops, and it’s probably been mentioned but when they talk about the Octopus at the end but there actually was a deleted scene where there was a giant octopus in the pirate ship cave. Glad it didn’t make the final cut though when you see it. Loved watching your reaction here. The Goonies is a movie that just perfectly captures the 80’s and is non stop entertainment from beginning to end with a bunch of characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Mama Fratelli still scares me to this day 😆 Hey you guuuuuuuys!!!

So glad you enjoyed this one. It's definately a childhood favorite. My sister and I used to draw up our own treasure maps and run around the neighborhood imagining various 'booty traps' to escape. So much fun trivia. The young man who played Data was told by his mom he wasn't allowed to curse. He found a way around it by yelling "Holy s-h-i-t!" when facing being crushed by a boulder. When Bran yanks away the crowbar from Mikey in the basement telling him there is nothing down there, you can hear Mikey say, "There is something there, Josh!" Also many of the family members seen at the end greeting the kids on the beach were their real families.
