I’m so glad you guys made this video!! We’ve struggled so much with the LA from TGATB. I was feeling so discouraged and thinking I’m not cut out for homeschooling. I’ve just been focusing on the math from TGATB but pulling from other resources for LA.

We are so glad that this video helped. That's what our main goal is! We hate that a curriculum can make us feel like homeschooling might not be for us. We have been there too. Hope your family can find a curriculum that works for you. We appreciate you watching our video!

Thank you both for taking the time to share your thoughts on both of these programs. We've tried them both and I pretty much agree with your assessment. I'd be interested in a monthly check in to see how you and your kiddos are enjoying it in the future. ❤

I like how you went through the pros and cons. We have used both and basically quit using both except for typing and handwriting and some science of TGTB and we’ve added back in Masterbooks Science for my littles and they love Masterbooks Academy for Spanish. I am a new subscriber! I’m also a homeschooling KZread mama! I share all about our homeschooling and the curriculum we use.

My children use TGTB what we've learned is to simply stop in the middle of a lesson and resume the next day if we have to. Also to help with the booster cards I would have a small white board and create little sentences with the words they're supposed to master so when they see it in a book or sentence they will recognize it. I sometimes still have to say "hey remember that's one of your sight words" then they realize and say "oh yeah!" Sadly the English language is filled with words that don't make sense to the rules so the only way to master them is by seeing it often in literature. These words won't truly be mastered until they start to read on their own more.

This was helpful. I’ve seen reviews of these curriculum but a side by side is great because they are both open and go Christian curriculum that are affordable. I also appreciate reviews because you had so much insight of how it actually went versus telling us what you’re planning on doing.

This is so interesting! My kiddo is an avid reader. He just turned 6 but he's definitely ahead in L.A. Still, I wanted to start with first grade L.A. to make sure we don't skip concepts. I can totally see how it would be challenging if he wasn't a fast reader. I would concentrate on reading and read-alouds before doing this curriculum. Then this curriculum is great. It has worked really well for us. We finish each lesson in about 10 minutes. We're still finishing kindergarten math and we do 2 lessons a day sometimes. I absolutely love the open and go concept. But I can definitely see how it's not terribly exciting all the time. My kiddo also hates the coloring, painting and most crafts. I simplify them and just let him use colored pencils instead of paint, or do checked instead of coloring ... But he loves memorizing poetry, the narrations and TGTB story books. Still, this makes me want to look into Mastebooks. TGTB doesn't have much in terms of Bible stories or biblical concepts. Thank you so much for doing such a thorough review.

@@jrodriguez6888 We have both switched from masterbooks to Christian light education. If something’s not working you have to find something that works. There are a lot of curricula that are more heavy on the biblical aspects, TGTB barely scratched the service for me but of course that’s preference. Thank you so much for watching. ♥️

I would love an update on how masterbooks is working for each of your kiddos or if you've implemented anything else. I have a struggling 9yr old in 3rd grade (public school- was homeschooled 2 years ago, but he struggled then too. I blamed myself...rant rant. He still struggles and he's at a great school. Its just not working for him for several reasons) anywho, we will be going back to homeschool next year. I want to pull him out now, for so many reasons, but I'm not yet prepared. I was going to order The Good and the Beautiful... I appreciate you showing how the lessons actually work. Thank you! - Sheena

I have a kindergartner using TGTB. For us, language arts can be a struggle at time and I don’t like that you can’t move forward until the card is mastered, but I understand that they have to have that skill down. It can be frustrating at times though. I’m thinking about switching to masterbooks next year. I am homeschooling my autistic child who will be starting kindergarten and I just know I can’t use TGTB for him. I am wondering if I should use masterbooks for both of them next year.

The art studies are a reward for finishing the days work if desired. And the artist / author studies are a simple culture intro for the kids but MOSTLY for the parents. References and cultural literacy incase you want to further your child’s education / book series.

Would you recommend these for other countries to use for homeschools? Or would you say it's heavily American/America based? I'm hoping if I can use it, I'll probably change and cut parts out.

So since I started the year with Masterbooks I already had it on hand I just lined up the lessons. So for example if our CLE lesson was about quotation marks I found the same activity in Masterbooks for extra practice. I personally don't think both are necessary because CLE has so much review in every lesson. Hope this helps.
