Another route I think Normani can take, and it will catapult her into international stardom; is by making songs like the one she did with Sam Smith, dancing with a stranger was absolutely beautiful. She looked gorgeous in the video, the song reached diverse audiences. I think songs like that, maybe even a Maroon 5 feature, can really make her stand out.

Chloe and Normani's music doesn’t stick because they love R&B, but nobody listens to R&B like that. They need to be like Doja Cat, making pop music and throwing R&B/rap into the mix. Their label refuses to go the 'Have Mercy' and 'Motivation' route, despite both singles getting over 100 million views. We need pop artist so there is room for them . That’s exactly how Beyoncé and Nicki became international superstars .

Regarding the deification of Kendrick, I think a big factor is that it seems like pretty much everyone in the industry must secretly HATE Drake behind the scenes given how universal the support for Kendrick has been. I think that’s a huge factor in why Kendrick has been elevated to the god of hip hop as a result of the feud. I think people in the industry are well aware of the unsavory Drake rumors and are happy to see him get some comeuppance.

I also think it’s the light skin vs dark skin men type of thing.

Sir Charles Jones, Arthur Young, T.K Soul, Tucka, and Peggy Scott are popular artists in the Southeast that are frequently listened to. I’m an Millennial, will be 28 this month, and I prefer older Funk, Soul, and R&B music to this new era of music because everything seem to be promiscuous and immodest. The music’s message seems to be about being a baddie, getting the bag, having the best body, etc. I can’t relate to any of the artists that were at the BET awards except for Coco Jones, her voice and graceful beauty is ethereal to me.

I think Tyla’s label also doesn’t see long term success for her which is why they are pouring so much into her in such a short time. Who tours the world without an album?! They’re trying to capitalize while she’s hot because she won’t always be.

Normani needs to fire her team the minute she didnt release her album on time, its embarassing. She needs to follow Tinashe's blueprint - they are on the same label which tinashe left because of similar issues. Normani can make more money on her own. She can avoid 360 deals and really maximize social media because she has a following already.

But do you know how much money Tinashe has to spend of her own money? Hint it’s a lot. Why would Normani do that just so the internet can pick it apart and not support it? And Tinashe is on record as saying she loses hundreds of thousands of dollars on every tour she does. If I were Normani I’d pass on that too.

You know what they need to do? Start employing up and coming or some prominent designers from other parts of the world: in 🇿🇦: Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, Inga Madyibhi, Khosi Nkosi, David Tlale, Nao Serati etc. In 🇳🇬: Ona Laja, King Tiana (from real housewives of Lagos), Imade Duso, Andrea Iyamah, T.Atelier etc. The fashion locally is falling off. Doesn't hurt to look outside cause in the end we all need each other. Them Italian and French designers be leaving a large majority of black folks in the cold anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Would you want all light-skinned artists to only have light-skinned vocalists or background dancers? Or could that also be taken negatively? I feel like this particular conversation will always be lose-lose because the optics both ways look off. I enjoy Tanner and could see her hiring dark-skinned black women to provide them with more visibility and opportunities especially centered in country music as she understands how colorism has elevated her career. At the same time, I can understand why dark-skin women would feel uncomfortable. I like a mix of dancers like Chloe's performance. I'm blanking on her name, but a dark-skinned KZreadr I follow just talked about dark-skinned people being used for “background aesthetics” with lighter-skinned artists.

Victoria Monet can’t sing. Anyone can pick up choreography. Anyone can be styled. Everyone can’t sing. The bar is so low. Bring real singers back. That Usher tribute was awful. Let the men have their own spaces and lanes. They’d never allow a group of men to do a Beyoncé or Janet tribute. If Usher curated that lineup. He ruined his own tribute. Keke Palmer sounded like a chipmunk. Coco was out of breath on a ballad. Extra and uncalled for.

Tyla reminds me of Tinashe in that they have that airy high pitched sound going for them, although Tinashe actually has better bodies of work. They can both dance pretty well, racially ambiguous, but they come across as just pretty. Lacking maybe a wow factor or that extra something. Idk It reminds me of a video I think you did Chrissie about the Rihanna vs Halle Berry Persona. They don’t stand out enough in terms of originality. They’re trendy. I’m being pretty objective because I actually like their music but not enough to be in love.

I think Halle is playing the long game. She has good singles but they’re best in a body of work. Meaning, her songs fit an entire collection that will probably win a Grammy. Her songs are unique, fit her aesthetic and will have longevity. Yall gotta remember Beyoncé in her early years only had a few hits, some of them were sleepers that we love AFTER the fact. Rihanna was the one who had consistent #1s Chloe is chasing a hit when she needs to nurture her fans, be consistent and have a unique sound. Her voice itself is unique but her melodies/song writing? Not really a personality fit at this time. She can produce but she isn’t sure what people want to see from her. Which is crazy bc she’s already a star in Chloe x Halle so that type of music is probably her sweet spot
