    Honestly, I think this is a continuation of an over-arching theme with Lea and her continuous struggles and insecurities over having loved ones with Autism. In seasons 3 and 5, Lea admitted that Shaun's condition was a major factor in her reluctance to be with him. Both times before they got together and when they got engaged, Lea let her insecurities drive her decisions and it nearly drove her and Shaun apart. Hopefully, this won't be the case this time but it will cause Lea to confront her old fears from season 4. When she was pregnant with their daughter, Lea went to Claire for advice and how inheritable Shaun's autism would be and she admitted that she doesn't know what to do with that knowledge. It's one thing to cope with your spouse being autistic, but then facing the fact that her child might be as well, that's a lot. She was already feeling insecure about how she could give Steve all he needs with her breastfeeding and schedule story arcs but knowing that her child's brain might be wired in a way that she can never truly grasp because she's not on the spectrum would cause a lot of fear and anxiety and worry that she might never be what Steve needs. I'm autistic myself and my parents admitted they dealt with a lot of uncertainty and insecurity over their confidence in raising me. Sounds like they're giving Lea a similar arc. I also understand not wanting to test Steve early but delaying could also be problematic. My parents were advised to test me early in life but they didn't want a label hanging over me and we didn't have access to the resources at the time. It wasn't until I was 22 when I was officially diagnosed but throughout my life they had that worry over their heads for two decades and I was left confused on why I was the way I was and it haunted me for two decades until I finally got my answers. This will be an emotionally charged episode

    I would wait to the proper age range between 18-24 months he is only 6 months right now and honestly the rest would be the conclusive at that age yes there are signs that show up early I’ve seen 9 month old in offices where you can definitely see the diagnosis, but Lea is right here, and I think Shaun’s overall concerns and personal insecurities with his ASD are playing a role in his profession decision making. Personally I would never recommend testing a 6 month old for ASD that just way to early in my opinion

    I agree it will definitely be intense especially for those of us who have Autism. I have mild Autism, though I don't remember how old I was when I got diagnosed. Though I'm high functioning I still feel like I'm struggling with it every day. In 2 other videos about Shaun, people were trash talking about him and it really pissed me off.

    Oh Shaun should understand better than most that even if Steve does have Autism there's nothing stopping him from leading a normal life. Yes, there may be some bumps, but with the right support, it is more than possible. Currently trying to get my son diagnosed at 10yrs old, 3 years so far. He never cried when I left him with others. I also have 3yr old daughter who didn't cry either but she is the complete opposite to her brother, definitely has no signs of Autism where as he showed signs from 18 months but I ignored it for years until school finally noticed he was unique in certain aspects

    I don't think that's the case. I'm sure he knows that. If anything I'm sure what's going on is that he wants to make sure whether or not he is on the spectrum so he can get the help that he needs early in life so he can adjust and live a normal life. Personally as someone with Autism I wish I had that since I got diagnosed later in life. Shaun struggled due to his autism, and I'm sure he doesn't want Steve to experience the same.

    As someone on the spectrum I agree but if he is on the spectrum, the sooner they know the sooner they can get him the support he may or may not need (depending on where he is on the spectrum) I was diagnosed when i was 2, didn't know myself until I was 14 Looking back, my grandma was really on top of things All through elementary and middle school I had resources that really by the end i rarely even needed but they were there if i needed them Like really unless Shaun is going to be putting Steve into some autism speaks BS (Which i doubt would happen), diagnosis would do no harm and could help him if he is on the spectrum

  • @floofrules

    @floofrules

    He does understand that and he knows how early diagnosis is going to help if Steve is on the spectrum. It is better to get him tested early.

It is estimated at least 50% of genetic risk is predicted by common genetic variation and another 15-20% is due to spontaneous mutations or predictable inheritance patterns. The remaining genetic risk is yet to be determined. I’m on the autism spectrum and my dad is too.

    🥺I stopped watching when babies came into the series. It became annoying. I miss the doctor and the incredible diagnosis parts.

    Not happening!!! Though thru the time jump I believe is coming, Shaun and Lea will be in their 50's by the time the show ends, they will not be killed off.

    @@adamslayton5417They will more likely be in their 40's. I don't think we'll see an adult Steve, turned doctor. Definitely too corny. He'll probably be a young boy (around 10 or so), and maybe we'll learn if he's autistic or not. Anyway, this is my opinion. We'll see.

    @danielavingiani That doesn't make sense to only show Steve as a young boy and not turn him into a adult considering that the show is ending. Had there been a S8, this would have made more sense. But, now that the show is ending, I feel that the time jump has to be big enough to at least let us see what Steve will look like as an adult because that is all we will be getting. As for the autism, the time jump will confirm that for us thru the way that Steve acts, especially if he is similar to Shaun.

    @@adamslayton5417 Showing adult kids in the future, following in their parents' footsteps is a very old TV trope. One that has been used, even recently, in too many TV shows. I would personally hate it if they did it in TGD as well. I believe that the writers had something slightly different in mind. As I said, we'll see. It's a matter of days now.

    @danielavingiani If they had gotten a S8, then what you suggested would have made more sense. But, since the show is ending, the writers owe it to the fans to at least show us what Steve will look like 20-25 years from the main TGD timeframe. And it would be so "TGD" to have Steve follow his father's footsteps to become the " New Good Doctor."
