This concept is very apparent when building the Lego Harry Potter Wizard Chess set (the main chess set I use at this point because it is a LOVELY conversation piece and just makes me happy). The sides of all 9 piece designs utilize SNOT bricks, meaning you’ve got to handle this concept 32 times when building this set lol.

This is how Lego Minecraft utility blocks are designed, with a 2x2 round plate underneath to easily move them. Although I do wish that it were a 3x3-stud grid instead of a 2x2, as that would have been much closer to minifigure scale even if perfect cubes aren't quite possible at that ratio. Still, it would have exponentiated the cost, meaning we would have gotten sets that were either less affordable or less expansive in terms of how much of a Minecraft scene could be represented. So while I initially had my grief with how the mobs, doors, torches, and item frames aren't to scale with the rest of the sets, I've come to accept it now that I've basically become a collector and builder of the sets. It just makes translating it into the game that much more challenging and fun.

I'd love a tutorial on the various building techniques to line up various "thicknesses"/offsets of SNOT pieces with bricks placed on top and various SNOT types, going in order from the headlight brick offset (which is quite useful in many ways) to SNOT bricks to bracket plates. It's quite interesting what you can do with them. For instance, two plates plus a bracket's thickness equals one stud, while headlight bricks provide enough offset to make smooth slopes from cheese slopes. And of course, you can use a SNOT brick to make a smooth transition between two of the 2x2+ curved slope w/side ridge bricks. (Hopefully you know what I mean with that last one; I don't know the technical name, but it was used a lot for transparent windshields in micro models and small minifig models back in the day, from Star Wars to Tiny Turbos to even Atlantis.) One SNOT alignment technique that particularly impressed me was used in the LEGO Creator Majestic "Butthole" Tiger's legs where two different SNOT types were aligned with plates.
