If you read wuxia webnovels or costume chinese drama you would have an idea what it is about I think it has to do with "cultivating an inner force" to either have more powerful martial arts skills or, extend one's life and ability to heal faster, with the aim of achieving an immortal state of being. Idk if I'm explaining it correctly. You would have a clearer explanation if you look up Dan Tian legend/ myth or inner force.
