Historical GSR was 25. In the 1880s a $20 gold piece was .9675oz of gold and a silver dollar was .7734oz of silver. Unlike today the face values were real. Lots of other numbers are thrown around, like the mining ratio and the "above ground" ratio. But whichever ratio you look at, silver is CHEAP right now.

Silver is cheap when one looks at the 82:1 SGR but all of the silver I own was bought between $15 and $18 an oz., so today's prices don't look especially cheap to me. Given the amount of inflation over the past decade or so, however, a good argument can be made that $26 is the new $16 in silver prices.

Silver price down again and if premiums continue down I might be able to pick some up for under $20, which I thought I would never have the chance to do again.

Wow awesome 👌 🎉

You are the man
Thanks for your thoughts on this. The line seems to be slowly trending upwards, at least in this time frame in the new era. With the future being unknown, I don't know if the GSR average will continue to trend upward. In theory perhaps we should consider an annual average gsr percentage increase as well. The drastic parabolic spikes and dips clearly look like opportunities to exploit the GSR, even if you don't nail the top/bottom. That was my big take-away here. Thanks again!
I've been stacking for a couple of years, using dollar cost averaging. Since I buy the same dollar amount every month, this leads me to silver, since I don't have an extra $2k for an ounce of gold. I only have one Gold Eagle I bought a couple of years ago on a whim when my overtime at work crushed it for a payday or two. I only recently have been watching videos on the G/S ratio, and to me, it is really only important if I have to choose what to buy, gold OR silver. When the ratio is really high, I don't veer away from my DCA to buy a bunch of silver, nor when it is really low do I go off the rails and buy gold. G/S ratio is only for me to determine WHICH to buy, not how much. Just a noob opinion. Thanks for the video.
I learn so much more watching your videos than any other silver stacker.
Yellow. Good Afternoon.
Interesting!
Glad you threw in the premium you’d have to pay. Why not throw platinum ratio to silver on a video at some point? Especially because the EU will be going Hydrogen Fuel Cells in vehicles . Silver to Platinum is 38 or 39….Just a thought on a future video. Thx. Love this video.
I wonder if anyone knows when/if the Au>Ag ratio will ever get back to anywhere near it's historical lows, given the on-going market/currency manipulations. Might be a better bet to analyse, once the mid-50s are hit. Though, a number of "experts" do agree, with stacking silver, to a large %, over gold, in this present environment. Nearly 3 years ago, Mike Maloney had a video where he stated his preferred ratio was 500:1. That's silver, over gold.

Six months later we are at 90 to one. Not buying anything right not, spending it all on groceries
Silver is an attractive buy and I own some as well as gold, but where I live there is no VAT (tax) on gold buys/sales however there is a 23% tax on silver when buying/selling, this additional cost should and any past/future VAT rate variability should be factored in before any purchase, if applicable in your country/state
The long term trend is for it to go higher. There are pullbacks but the trend is up.
Even tho many will discredit the 1/125 GSR in 2020 as a fluke brought on by a crisis, it cannot be ignored as the new all time high in the GSR, and since the GSR also has been trending higher and higher over the long term, there is a good possibility that certain values that were common in the past may never return again, so for all those people waiting for a return to 15,30 or even 50 oz of silver to 1 of gold… they may be waiting forever. I don’t really play the GSR, I’ll take DCA and just stack the metal of my choice and leave it at that.
I am thankful for your shared information and insights. Questions: if the gold is silver ratio is at or below 80 to 1 isn’t that a good time to sell your silver? Additionally, Is there a way you could place a Date in the Title of your Post? Then it’s easier to Watch them and understand them with the Time Frame it was posted.

I'm fairly new to stacking, maybe only a couple of years. However, the spot ratios are based on spot prices, not what you buy with the premiums. Silver premiums are much higher than gold. So, you'd have to factor that in if you're selling silver to buy gold. You probably paid a hefty premium on the silver and you're not going to get that back when you sell, or even trade. Just a noob opinion though.
Funny you mention the GSR. I hadn't checked it in like a year until about a week ago out of curiosity. Good timing!
Good stuff. I love silver and have a lot of it. My computation now goes something like this: when I bug out, do I want to carry 820 Troy ounces (68 lbs. Troy/25.5kg/56 lbs. avoirdupois) of silver or 10 Troy ounces of gold.
If it tightens up...
I highly doubt we even see a ratio below 50:1 within the next 2-3 years.. Nonetheless, it will still be an excellent opportunity to upgrade to gold.

Today the GSR is 82;1 ....BUT, I am seeing a sale on 2023 1/4oz gold Brits for 498....!!
Iam curious as to what the stackers are finding with their LCS’s and stock/supply or lack there of. Are people finding that when they want to buy the LCS has the product? Or people struggling to find the metals? Or having to result to buying online?
Diversification it the best avenue!
Great video but some questions... Whats stopping the ratio from increasing? If it inflated from his historic average, whats stopping it from going to 100-1? Its already 18 points away from 100 Why does the historical average matter? We are in unprecedented times and unless something really breaks i don't see the average going down. That wouldn't mean the dollar would collapse wouldn't it? Since gold and silver is denominated in USDs. Will the GSR ever revert back to his historical ratios? Great video will share with my fellow Silverbacks at work
@edb3877
Жыл бұрын
The GSR has varied from around 32:1 in 2011 to 111:1 in 2020, so in the past 12 years this ratio has changed considerably. So, it has gone above 100:1 and below 40:1 within the past dozen years. Pretty remarkable, IMO. While that was an unusual time, such things tend to happen in relatively small markets with volatile assets. I don't see the GSR ever reverting back to 15 or 16 to 1, as it has been historically. It would take some very exotic tech that would make silver tremendously more valuable to do this, such as it being used for the windings in an anti-gravity motor or some such very high and very desirable new technology. Sure, anything can happen but just how likely is it to happen? Probably not very unless something really unusual happens. US$ collapse is one of those things that is possible but not probable. Way too many people compare the USA to Venezuela or Zimbabwe, when that is a really poor comparison. The economy of the US is much larger than those countries and much more complex as well. Venezuela, as they say, is a gas station and this is not backed up by a lot of other high tech industries. I think that historical average only matters as a typical range for the gold and silver prices as we have come to know them. But there are enough variances in these numbers for us not to take them too seriously. I keep an eye on the GSR simply because I have a lot of silver and would welcome the opportunity to trade up to 2/3 of it for gold. If the GSR were to fall, say below 40:1, I would become an active trader of physical silver for physical gold. I would do that in increments of 8-10% of my stack at a time. If it kept falling, I would continue to make trades. If it started to rise again, I would keep trading until the GSR rose above 40:1. At that point, I would stop trading and be very happy with what I had at that time. As shown in the video, trading relatively more expensive metals for cheaper ones would be the goal. If I could do that, I would. If not, then I would hang onto my stack as it is because I am not at all unhappy with it. I'm just looking to increase my total PM ounces via beneficial trades, if possible. As to these numbers, there is nothing special about them. They are simply my choice of tradeing points. Others will differ on this but these numbers are supported by recent price data in the gold and silver markets and I don't want to be trading a lot of metal for small changes in the GSR. It has to be worthwhile doing it.
I will mess wirh gold and platinum but there us juat something about silver. I like that if there is a SHTF situation you can have bulk and trade for 1oz for goods instead of golds value being so high the person you're trading with may not have enough goods for the exhange. Silver is versatile, silver is beautiful, and sliver is actually more rare than gold in percentage of contents on earth. Its grossly undervalued.

What? Silver to gold is 7 to 1. Gold is much more rare than silver. On top of that, silver is beginning to be used more in manufacturing which will ultimately keep the price of silver down. “Gold is the money of kings, silver is the money of gentlemen, barter is the money of peasants - but debt is the money of slaves.” ― Norm Franz
Great video. Yesterday I traded gold for the first time. I traded six 1oz gold bars for a sealed monster box of 2015 Canadian Wildlife silver coins at my LCS. The coins weigh 1.5oz each with 300 in the box. Hopefully I come out ahead down the road. Since this is my first sealed monster box, do I open it and check the coins out or do I leave it sealed?? That comes out to about $26 per ounce or $33.40 per coin. Thoughts?

Would it be difficult to trade at the coin shops? I understand they buy and sell all day but what will they say for an even trade like 83-1. Will we we have to sell then purchase or just trade?
@edb3877
Жыл бұрын
I would think that most shops would manage a "trade" via two seperate transactions, a buy and then a sale. This keeps their books straight, which is good for tax management. I don't think that very many shops would do a straight trade at the GSR. What's in it for them? They will want to be paid for their time by making a profit on both the buy and the sell side. Having a good relationship with the owner of the LCS would be very helpful in working such "trades".

The ratio of silver vs. gold in the earth's crust is 17.5 : 1. Because the silver and gold markets are being manipulated right now by the big banks and speculators, the current (artificial) value of silver vs. gold is 91 : 1. So... all I'm saying is to use your brains. It's only a matter of time before something happens and one of the megabanks finally demands physical delivery of the silver that the derivatives are based upon. Just watch what happens to the price of silver at that point.

I was just thinking why the price of silver went up over $49.00/oz in 2011..?? It's peak even preceded gold's peak that year. It ran up ahead of gold instead of with it or right behind it (gold). But why? Was it high inflation that did it back then? It's worse now. Isn't it? Was it silver's increased industrial usage in new technology. It's used moreso now. Isn't it? Was it a weak U.S. dollar and a threat to the dollar as the world's reserve currency? Isn't that worse now (Inflation and massive national debt)? Is it because the Federal Reserve was so dovish back then with zero percent interest rates and quantitative easing? I don't think that theory holds water because silver went down in price after April 2011 and never recovered that high and the Fed was dovish for years nad years thereafter with downward or little movement in silver 2011 - 2020. Is J.P Morgan artificially suppressing the price of silver with a massive short position? Who knows! I only know I can remember only 2 times in the last 50 years silver hit $49.00 and both times it came back down and took years and years to recover that price again. And I mean a LOT of years!! Oh well!

Once a guy understands the implications of the current gold silver ratio, he will understand history, the cabal and everything important you weren’t taught in school.
Silver is a great hobby and I own silver but it is a HORRIBLE investment. NEVER buy silver as an investment if you like money. Why? Dollar cost average the price of silver over the years, add in the price OVER spot you paid for it, add in the cost UNDER spot you can sell it for, ADD cost of traveling to a coin shop to sell silver at the best price you can get including hotel rooms, airfare, tips, meals, gas, time, ADD in cost to store silver like the safe, security system and insurance premium, ADD in other costs you may have? Add ALL you costs you paid for having silver and now deduct that expense from whatever you can sell silver for - again dollar cost inflation into this total. We are not even discussing how much return on investment money you could have made investing this money, only the wealth preservation aspect of it. So what do we get? The ONLY people who make money or preserve wealth in silver are the silver dealers and those KZread influencers hyping it up and getting sponsored by silver dealers. Silver is a loosing proposition plain and simple for those that stack it. Silver is a great hobby and fun so buy for that but never to invest or preserve wealth because you will only loose money. There are exceptions for coin collectors but again they might be considered dealers or experts but they can make money just like in art. Ultimately though art is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
