I really liked the content of the Goebbels video for the most part, but as a matter of history, Hitler appointed Admiral Karl Doenitz as his successor in the last days of the war, not Geobbels.

It’s an EXCELLENT place for them, eh? There are so many others who love history, and a few that produce such good documentaries. The real McCoy. They do real research, old footage and all., just for the love of it. I’m with you all the way. I’m older, before cable even, though I was 20 when it arrived lol, and I used to literally have to catch some on PBS at 4 in the morning. Then the history channel came along, and that was a good place to see some really good shows. Then it turned into the gator wrassling/moonshine making/treasure hunting etc. channel. 🥱 KZread has been a blessing to history nerds. Go figure. I remember when the tube was garage bands and people doing stupid things and that was pretty much it lol. This is a really good channel.

The fervent and dogmatic zealotry and adherence to a political ideology is alive and well in our modern (or post-modern) world, especially within Hollywood, where celebrities are literally experimenting and in some cases even mutilating their own children under the guise of "affirming their gender". All the knowledge and wisdom acquired through the learning of historical events, are worthless if the same atrocities keep getting repeated... and no atrocity is more vile, insidious and just pure evil, than those targeting the most innocent in society: children/minors.

Joseph and Magda staying behind and killing themselves and their children has always convinced me that Hitler did not flee from Berlin like so many conspiracy theories suggest. Extenuating circumstances. You may know that Goebbels was Hitler's propaganda minister, but not that Magda acted as hostess for Hitler's formal occasions because he had no wife to perform that role. Hitler had an award system set up to celebrate women who made lots of babies for Germany. Magda held high status in that regard. Her husband was a film director who was constantly becoming enamored of pretty starlets. Hitler was perhaps the only man her husband feared so it was logical enough for Magda to seek Hitler's help to slap her husband into line.

  • @perpetualmotion357

@@valkyriesardo278 I have a very interesting book called "The Goebbel Diaries" and it's apparent Joseph had a problem falling head over heels for certain women. He seemed to love Magda most though, but he wanted the best of both worlds. What stuck out in the book is how much Hitler loved the Goebbels family. He was very close with Magda, so much so that Joseph almost sounds like a scorned lover at times, jealous of the affection Magda is shown by Adolf and vice-versa. The fact that the Goebbels family stayed behind and killed themselves and their children suggests to me that Hitler never left that bunker. We always hear conspiracy theories that he fled Berlin (imo it's to make him look like a coward) but I find that highly doubtful or he would've secured a way for the Goebbels family to evacuate. As it stands, I believe they would've followed their leader anywhere and that's exactly what they did.

What got me interested in the history of world war 1 and World War 2 and it’s leaders was a question on a trivia puzzle/game website about historical events/historical figures both ancient and modern times. I can exactly remember the wording but it went kinda like this :- Name the 3 historical figures from World War 2 leaders. Leader 1 was addicted to cocaine, had issues with alcoholism (paraphrases), leader 2 was a vegetarian or a vegan growing up or in his early life and loved/liked animals and the 3rd leader was or had issues with alcohol, cigars, fancy things he couldn’t afford while at university or growing up had issues with stealing or extra marital affairs or domestic violence. As I said the above is not by any means a quote but it was interesting when I found out Hitler was the animal loving vegetarian who had idealistic beliefs and ideals for all. It was a bit of a shock finding out some of the English leaders had issues while younger with things that could have set them selves up for extremism or almost sounded like they could have been psychopaths or due to there psychological make ups could have caused more deaths or entered into fights or sent troops into battle where they were set up to fail and it was a bit of an eye opener. By watching these historical videos around leaders of Germany has been an interesting experience and insight. Adolf was very charming and charismatic. I don’t think he could have gotten away with what he did if he didn’t have a good idea about what he could do too make people do what he wanted. By the sounds (kids names starting with H, during the way they did, the propaganda they made). I had both of my Grandfathers in WW2 and my dad was called up for the Vietnam war in which he trained but never fought. He was thankful for not fighting as a handful of his friends who he grew up with did and came back as different people or not at all. War is truly an awlful thing for all involved. The Soviets, English, Americans, Germans, Italians, Japanese and others were willing to sacrifice their own country man’s lives for their leader’s beliefs. It happened in ancient times and it has happened all the way up till now.

I believe the "H" of the six Goebbels children was only strangely coincidental with the "H" of Hitler, because Magda's first child, born in 1921, also had the "H" -- Harald.

  • @AB-un4io

Naming her first child using an “H” while married to another man quite a few years earlier is, I think, a coincidence. Magda strikes me as if she might’ve been similar to the many other self absorbed weirdos out there who think that sticking all the (usually large numbers of) kids with the same first letter in their first names is a “fun” thing. Think Duggars and those type of folks. Then, when Hitler came on the scene, it happened to look as if Magda had done it in honor of him. Two birds…one stone.

Thank you for an extrordinary & illuminating documentary. What do I think? The fact that Magda was OK existing under Hitler's tyranny was telling in itself. But the denouement--the final act--where she chose not only her own suicide, but the execution of her 6 beautiful children, is incomprehensible to any sane human being. That is, until you choose you delve deep into Hitler inspired fascism. Therein, you encounter previously unfathomable depths of murderous depravity. Obviously, along the way, marching beside Joseph Goebbels & their further, she made one bad choice after anothe, & things took a very dark turn...

Mussolini's Fascists had no problem with the Jews. Il Ducé's mistress was Jewish and the Fascist party had a Jewish membership of 110,000. Fascism are Actualists and did not differentiate between private and public sectors - it was a corporatist-nationalist movement.

The Goebbels were observing the state of the world through their own perspectives, and what they saw was a world ravaged by destruction. It was undeniable that the world had endured a horrendous war, with Germany being left in ruins due to the actions of the allies. While it is true that Joseph Goebbels would have faced the ultimate consequence of execution for his heinous crimes, the fate of Magda Goebbels, as mentioned by the presenter, would have been different. She likely would have only served a few years in prison for her involvement, and potentially could have chosen to immigrate to America alongside her children, allowing her to forge a new life. I have recently come across this amazing series that has left me completely captivated. Although I have only managed to watch a few episodes so far, I am already convinced that it is one of the greatest series I have ever laid my eyes upon. The level of quality and brilliance displayed in each episode is truly outstanding, surpassing all my expectations. Actually, because of Goebels’ own inhumane immoral behavior, in Magda’s mind she could have believed she was saving her children from savage retaliation at the hands of the advancing Allies. It’s impossible to know how such minds work, but to dismiss them as simply ‘evil’ is to underestimate the potential for a repeat of history. We are at the threshold ….

55.36: "What do you think of Magda Goebbels? How can the contradictions in her personality and her decision to kill her own children be explained?" Seems a simple question, but is anything ever that simple? This is an excellent documentary and, with the benefit of hindsight, it certainly leaves us with an inexplicable puzzle. Really, the question ought to be rephrased to something like, "what would YOU do in the same circumstances?" And although we can speculate we cannot, in all honesty, answer the question because we weren't there. As humans, we are all full of contradictions in our personalities, and we do things that may be utterly inexplicable to others. What a philosophical conundrum! Thank you, 'The Peoples Profiles' for another thought-provoking doco!
