This was always going to be my favourite episode! We talked all things Goalkeeping, with Premier Leagues Aston Villa first team GK coach Neil Cutler and WBA academy GK coach and former Welsh international GK Boaz Myhill. We delved into the ‘The Perfect Goalie’, the best in the world, how goalkeeping is a sport within a sport, neurological pathways and much, much more! My old mates certainly delivered this week - ENJOY.

Neil Cutler was the Stoke goalkeeper when I was a mascot aged 8 or 9 in the early 2000’s. I had my picture taken with him and he joked, ‘I want my hair like yours!’ Well, 20 years later and his barnet has outlasted mine 😂

On goalkeepers as captains, I've always refused the captaincy when offered it. My view is that the goalkeeper should always be a leader anyway and that it's always more beneficial for the team for an outfielder to take that responsibility to step up their own game OR encourage others to step up. Need to have multiple strong personalities on the pitch and goalkeepers generally are naturally strong personalities so it would be a waste of the armband most of the time to give it to the keeper

1:12:55 I think it's true, sky sports was slating de gea for Silva goal but other player were to blame that could have stop the chance otherwise he made some great top class saves and kept the score at 2-0 but the OG and Silva's goal is what was highlighted at critiqued.

Really admire the interviewing technique on all of the Fozcast videos. You see some people cutting in a lot to try and ask questions or to get a conversation to flow and it doesn't matter whether they are talking to people they know really well or not, there isn't that at all. It's just laidback but still super informative and interesting.

That was one of the best podcast episodes I’ve listened to for a while… I was a left winger all through my youth days and transitioned into a left back into my mid twenties up to semi pro level… but in school or kicking about with mates I always wanted to go in goal, and played in goal for school sides at 5 a side tournaments etc… my only problem about being a keeper full time was I was too short hahaha… but even in them days I enjoyed playing the way the keepers of today play… sweepers, getting involved in build up, being super comfortable and confident in possession, which was not normal back then… because this was back in the mid 90’s by the way haha… remember the likes of Chilavert, Campos and Higuita! For me, ‘keeper is the best position on the field… I was watching a lot of the England keepers training during the Euros on KZread and the standard now is frightening isn’t it… best young keeper I ever saw (on TV of course) was Buffon… made his debut age 17 for Parma against Juve and was MOTM and then had another blinder against AC Milan the very next week and I told my friends this kid will be the best in the world one day, and for a very long time… I think it’s rare to see a world class keeper who’s still a teenager but he was… and Donnarumma is definitely following that same path!

"What is the one attribute do you think is the most important from your GK"...as a junior coach, I want resilience. Really interesting so many talking points I think from a personal view leaning the lessons to be successful at an early age. I remember I had a specific gking coach for a few years and the improvement in my performance, confidence, learning about yourself, learning what makes you tick. I think Jack Butland is really interesting as well, very successful at a young age why hasn't it quite worked out for him? Injuries, evolving of the game, off the pitch stuff? I think personally as well learning about mental health as I get older and people being more aware of it and learning how it affects you etc especially as a goalkeeper and how to best manage all of that side of things really interesting. Top pod probably bit niche for lots of people but enjoyed it.

Would love you to bring maik Taylor and zigic on the pod. Taylor was a vet keeper for the blue boys and talk about the coaching staff at bcfc. Zigic, we don't hear much for him, would love hear him and Ben talk about the cup win 🏆cult hero in my opinion!
